That is an awesome diffuser. Exactly what I have been looking for. I want one too!!!
| engineerx | 06-17-2005 02:15 AM |
Yep - sure looks similar to the Jun Lemon Dragon's rear diffuser, which I think is plain awesome.
The HKS diffuser looks alot more agressive than the optional/stock factory rear diffuser of the '06 STI. Damn ... it's about Y69,090 (~ $690) + add freight & markup! yikes!

I wonder how fast you really need to go to feel the difference...
But looks cool!

They added a lot of underbody cladding, much like a Toyota.
I wonder how fast you really need to go to feel the difference...

You definitely need to have fairly clean flow under the car, if it's too turbulent it really will not be making much difference. That's why the new 06 STI has all those underbody panels to promote smoother airflow under the car (and so do many supercars like Porsche, Ferarri, etc)
You would need to do wind tunnel testing or attach those strings before & after to observe how the flow behaves
Regardless.. I think it looks cool and would make any1's WRX look great... One of those mods that's more for the looks.... I want it ...
I sent it a request for quote to a Japanese exporter - I don't know if it's already available, hopefully the exporter will get back to me - I'll post the info here.

 I know... but I figure eventually some would find it .... gotta get dibs on 1st post hahah!!
At that price .... I don't think you'll see that many of those around.
As I said - It would be great if a vendor would have a CF shop make a replica and sell it for $300 - $400. I think it would sell. I paid $300 for the RavSpec front CF STI S203 lip replica and this rear diffuser is all flat shapes so not too difficult to lay the CF once you make the mold

In case anyone is looking for a source Bulletproof Automotive imports alot of HKS kansai service parts. I've used them before and they're great. www.bulletproofautomotive.com
I was looking on Kansai Service's website the other day for *another part* (thanks for drvrwanted the reminder haha ;) :p ) and happened to see the diffuser too. Neither of them are on Bulletproof's site yet since its new but probably will since they carry just about everything else they make...

Damn ... I wish I was still in school - I had access to CF / structural adhesive / aluminum honeycomb / epoxy / vacuum pumps / well everything needed to make parts....
I built so many CF parts... I think I still have epoxy and CF shards in my skin (that stuf is itchy!) Well I help build and race this:

Yep! we were fabricating CF parts & wheels back in the mid 90's way before they became popular on Subies

So pretty. Too bad it might not work with some aftermarket exhausts.
I actually don't think $690 is a bad price for a CF version. Shipping will hurt a little though.

Here's one quote ~$400 airfreight is not too bad...
Anyone know any good surface shipping company for Japanese imports?
or Myles @ Racecomp Engr - will you be oredering one for yourself soon? However I still need to check my finances..... I've been spending major $$ lately with the APS rotated mount turbo + internals + Hydra EMS install....and I sitll have to pay for tuning
they mentioned something about having to modify it for some exhausts.
Yes - most likely that will be the case if you have anything bigger than the stock can - if you have an exhaust at an angle , it may still fit but trimming will no doubt be required.

It would sell very well if the price is decent. Lots of interest for this part.
The part is not all that difficult to make - mostly flat shapes

am I the only one that thinks it looks too thin, almost like a sticker, at least on the part where it sticks onto the bottom of the bumper.

If you guys want these, I can get it. Email me your request or questions [emailprotected]
| engineerx | 06-22-2005 05:05 PM |
Well, you don't want it too thick where it attaches to the bumper... and it doesn't need to be overly thick.. as it's not a skid plate or to protect your underbody. If properly made, 2 - 3 layers of CF should be strong enough. If you're referring to the Vortex generators/ vertical fins.. those don't need to be thick either.
I wish they had wind tunnel pics showing the airflow before & after with decreased boundary layer separation- that would definitely convince me to buy it, otherwise it's just a "bling" piece I'd reeeeally love to have ! :D

does it seem like the bottom edge of the bumper needs to be cut out in order to fit the diffusser? I wouldn't cutting mine out, but others might be a little hesitant.

I contacted bulletproof and they quoted me $750 and an 8-12 week wait.... If someone finds how to get one sooner please let me know.

i'd like to see better pictures, especially of the CF version before i ploped down $750. Does look very inticing though.
