Jealous of 05 Interior part 1

hugoshi 10-13-2004 01:11 AM

Jealous of 05 Interior
so I, like many of you, are jealous of the 05 WRX interior(besides the steering wheel). Actually the cup holders don't bother me THAT much, I just like their center console way more(dunno if that's what it's called, that thing with the stereo, etc..) What can I do to make my center console(or whatever it's called) look better?

thanks
V6TurboTA 10-13-2004 01:16 AM

Not me... 05 is too legacy for me.

I can't imagine someone preferring the 04 interior to the 05. How is "too Legacy" a bad thing? I guess to each their own . . .
STi-MAN 10-13-2004 03:44 AM

i love the way the cup holders are no more dinky fragile pieces.
MDRex 10-13-2004 09:07 AM

I love my 03 interior, with my 04 STi seats, carpet, and door card.
Gfunk720 10-13-2004 12:40 PM

I prefer my MOMO steering wheel and the rest of the dash in MY04 vs. MY05. Yes, it looks a little nicer and a little sleeker, but it doesnt really fit the car too well. Sat in an 05 2 weeks ago and though that it definetely belonged in the legacy or forester.

The 04 interior just matches the car well IMO. I prefer the look of the new style seats, just need some STI ones now....
gezebo 10-13-2004 01:01 PM

anyone got a pic? i wanna see..

Well, 02-03's could update to the RS 05 interior (looks like same AC controls). new center console (shifter & elbow rest/bin), new center stack(where the radio mounts - check to see if it is mounted different at all). voila! 05 interior.

bahboy20 10-13-2004 05:21 PM

right...
but how do you even get hte part numbers online for the 05s? Subaruparts.com appears to only go up to 2003 for schematics for the oem impreza parts (interior replacement that is)...

i actualyl wanted to do this, but there is no schematic that I can find that details the parts and their numbers, since subaruparts.com only has schematics for 02-03.

My thoughts exactly...

The STi imho should not have the interior of a (wannabe) fancy car...

If you have been in an 05 Leg you will see what I mean... even the C6 corvette has a similar interior.

Its just not for me.

bahboy20 10-13-2004 06:17 PM

back on topic
so does anyone have the appropriate part numbers to do the 05 interior conversion? I know the 05 Rs has the same a/c stuff (it doesnt have climate control) so I guess if you want to upgrade from the 02-03 you need the RS center console part #'s, or is climate control not on the wrx just the sti? either way the RS part numbers for the 05 woudl be nice!

dan
V6TurboTA 10-13-2004 06:20 PM

I'd be willing to bet it would cost at LEAST $500 (thinking more towards $1000) for the conversion. The auto climate control setup is very expensive.

When you figure it out let us know :)

My brother has an 02 wrx i just got my 05 two months ago. He got his 02 back in 01 when they first came here. His words after seeing my car " everything is just a little nicer."
LOL!  what are you being serious???
Dead serious. In my opinion, the 02-04 interior looks very dated and even somewhat "ugly."
VSGTS14 10-13-2004 08:37 PM

i checked out the 05 sti interior and fell in love...it's beautiful
covert 10-13-2004 09:05 PM

Legacy or not...I think it's a cleaner look...plus we got rid of that useless cup holder... ;)
brizey 10-13-2004 10:25 PM

We have a '04 XT. The new interior is just what another poster said: a little nicer.
Diversion 10-14-2004 03:18 AM

I agree, I think the 02-04 interior is more bull-doggish and fits the overlook styling of the car.. the 05 console stuff has horrible contrast with the rest of the car in my opinion.. I'm mixing and matching interior pieces to my liking..

Jay
hugoshi 10-14-2004 08:02 AM
That's why we grab the RS parts; they don't have the auto climate, so no AC conversion. subaruparts.com cost for the '02 version is ~$200 (IIRC), I can't see the '05 being much more. If someone wants to do this, they might actually have to go to a parts counter at the dealership and track down part #'s.

i dont like the center console being "all silver"
V6TurboTA 10-14-2004 08:48 PM

Yeah.. The dash just looks out of place to me...
Might look and work nice... but I dont think it fits the STi in general imho.

I'm sure I would like the function of it all, but I dont care for the finish.

Crump 10-14-2004 08:59 PM

I personally love my 04 interior, especially the wheel. I don't like the 3 spkoe wheel, not as comfortable. The 05 dash looks to fancy for my tastes. I do like the fact that there are two cupholders in the middle. The top cupholder was a waste of space in the 04 and under.
fireball_jones 10-15-2004 08:46 AM

I bought an 05 because I thought the 04s looked terrible inside. And I thought the Subaru logo on the wheel was much nicer than the Momo one.

Anywho, I think there are a lot of better things to do with an 04 interior than switch it to the 05. I've seen panel kits that can replace the whole trim with a solid color, I'd love for my car to be all blue inside.
DieselClown 10-15-2004 08:50 AM

I too prefer the 05 interior as well; it's one of the reasons I waited a few months. That and I couldn't find a dealer with an 04 in aspen white. I ABSOLUTELY love the 3 spoke wheel and while the 05 dash does look fancy, with my leather seats, I feel like I'm in a much more refined cabin and albeit the wrx isnt about being fancy, or refined, but for those days where driving enthusiastically isn't as important to me, I'm glad I'm being pampered in a more comfortable and eye-pleasing environment.

here're a few random pics of my interior. I'll take more pics of the finished leather interior tonight when I get home.

Where do you buy these trims? or kits? I've only seen the carbon fiber one, any more besides that? I imagine brushed aluminum would be alright and cheaper.

i actually jumped on my 04' because i didn't like the 05' interior as much (and the nice price break). don't get me wrong, the 05' interior is nice too but i prefer the 04'...
gezebo 10-15-2004 10:25 AM

Wow!! Thanks DieselClown! I must say, I love it!! leather? that's nice nice. It's beautiful.. and I love the idea of moving the cupholders to the center. I never like the possibility of liquids getting in the stereo. The center console is beautiful and way more elegant. I can't see anything I don't like.

The only possible drawback I can see is that those gauge pods would not really match the interior anymore. The center gauge pods would not match, needs to be redesigned to match the console. and the A-pillar pods would look out of place in this car. Perhaps even the steering column pods would look a little out of place..

but besides that It's beautiful.. maybe I'll have to get a new one for pleasure driving and use my 02 for the track full time;) haha :D
nexeradg 10-15-2004 12:17 PM

They don't make a dashkit for the 05' WRX yet. Supposedly the 05' Saab trim is exactly the same and the carbon fiber kit costs $300 dollars from Autoanything.com. I love the interior of the 05', and who says you can't have a little luxury in a sports car!
MB38 10-15-2004 02:16 PM

Jeez, every time I see the '05 interior it makes me want to swap. If anybody owns an '02-'04 and has a friend with an '05... why not spend a few hours one day taking the interiors apart to see what would fit in a swap and what wouldn't?

It's hard to tell if the actual dashboard pieces are different. If they are, the '0x-'05 interior "upgrade" is suddenly a big, expensive deal. If those pieces are the same, the rest of the plastic and the HVAC unit wouldn't be so pricey to buy and swap.

I don't know. This is how it goes. You buy a car and then they make it better without you.
dmatthew 10-15-2004 02:24 PM

05's are the pimp
kujosan 10-15-2004 02:30 PM

blah... I love the '04 interior, minus the crappy cupholders. The '05 interior is too much like a luxury car, and has no features. It does not belong in a WRX.

I came real close to buying an 04 because they were cheaper, but then I saw the 05 and I couldnt resist. It looks a thousand times better and it seems to me that the only people who dont like the 05 interior are the people who own the 04. Seems a little biased.

Since these shots, I moved the HU to the lower pocket b/c the screen is just too high and blocks the vents.

What on gods good earth made then do that?

think v6 means the red gauges versus the green gauges in the saab ;)
V6TurboTA 10-16-2004 12:59 AM

I mean the Red cluster in the 04-05 STi, and the green climate controls...
If there going to spend the time making it fancy... at least make the friggin colors match ey? ;)

~v6
scooby24 10-16-2004 02:10 AM

werd. That's my biggest complaint. I thought all the lights would be the same color. Oh well. I still have 300 hp who cares if my interior lights don't match :D
WoohooRX 10-16-2004 02:32 AM

I love the center console of the 05' but I love my momo steering wheel even more.....and yes I guess I am kinda biased b/c I have an 04', but whateverz.
And yea, getting rid of that stupid cup holder on top was a good idea. I actually saw a pic of a rex the other day that put in a silver turbo timer, which is the same length as the left over half of the cup holder, it looked awesome!! (do we really need turbo timers on a stock turbo?)
IMPREZA GUY 10-16-2004 02:33 AM

doesn't BMW have red cluster and different colore climate controls?
MB38 10-16-2004 05:05 AM

BMWs have amber everything with the occasional inclusion of a green and blue color. The other colors are used in the same locations across all cars, so it's just part of the proper "scheme".
Okita Souji 10-16-2004 05:16 AM

A friend of mine has had an 04 since late last year so at first I hated the 05's interior, but it grew on me after I was able to see it in person. The WRX is my first subie so i'm just glad about having the car over what kind of interior difference it has :D

Although I wish the 05s had the red gauges the JDM WRXs have now.
Diversion 10-16-2004 06:32 AM

I do like the 05 door panels a lot better over 02-04..

why, because it's impossible for someone to prefer the 04' interior to the 05'?
darknightohio 10-16-2004 08:54 AM

The 05 interior looks great. I cant wait until the conversion is available.
bahboy20 10-16-2004 08:57 AM

so
for the swap, do us 02-03s need to look at the 05+ RS interior because both the wrx and sti have the climate controls, or is it just the STI that has climate control?

Either way, can someone find out the non-climate control part numbers? I know the RS is non climate control, so I guess we need someone to post the RS part #'s.

Dan
MB38 10-16-2004 12:44 PM

I believe you need to stick with the RS. It appears that the controls have the '04 layout rather than the '02-03 layout. I'm interested to see if even the RS interior will fit.
bahboy20 10-17-2004 11:00 PM

ok
so all we need is someone to post the appropriate part numbers for the 05 RS center dash/console....

anyone have the part #'s?

Dan
2k2 10-18-2004 12:15 AM

You know... I use the cupholder up high all the time and its not flimsy at all for me and its gone on the '05's it fits pepsi bottles and gatoraide and anything of normal size without any trouble.

Secondly, the ashtray area is now gone. That little dish area I use all the time to store various things. Not to mention is has the ability to install a turbo timer there or I have my XM satellite radio there. And now you have to open up the one on the '05's to use the cig lighter.

Theres prolly a few other usefil things I have in mine that are gone but im just saying I love my '02 Interior and it keeps getting better.
samwY 10-18-2004 10:20 PM

I like that interior. Need conversion for 02!
03 Black R3x 10-18-2004 10:54 PM

i like my 03 interior, everything is already comfortable in it. The 05 looks more luxurious and doesn't fit the look IMO
markadopolus 10-19-2004 02:27 AM

ups:

painted sideskirts
gunmetalish rims
new wrx color
better stereo
black headlight internal thingy
better seat fabric
muffler

downs:
UGLY steering wheel
center console
Diversion 10-19-2004 05:41 AM

The 05 wheels look more light-bronze to me.. well I haven't had the luxury to see one in person yet.. need to stop by the dealer..

Jay
bahboy20 10-19-2004 01:56 PM

ok ok
does anyone have part numberes for the 05 interior?

dan
yertle 10-19-2004 02:09 PM

I just got a WR blue 05 on Sunday. Regarding ashtray area that someone said, there is an ashtray still, it's in a little panel. I'm not very familiar with 04 interior, although I sat in one, so bear with me if you meant something else. Also, there is a little change tray on the left that flips out, and it's a handy place to throw some parking money or cell phone or whatnot. Also add to the ups, the dealer told me the clutch is a little stronger. The rims are a little bit smokier than the old ones, I wouldn't say they are very bronze or yellowed.

What sold me was the climate control and the painted rocker panels. I can take a pic of the interior if you'd like. What did the old steering wheel look like? I wouldn't call mine ugly, but to each his own :D

Here's a pic of the car, but it's starting to rain and we have no sun, so it's not so fun to look at =P.

Also, I'm not trying to rub it in. The reason we all bought the WRX was for what's under the hood and body, not for the interior, right? If you want interior go buy a luxury car.
