Remember, we still have 11 rallies left on the year, and they're far more in our favor than tarmac.
Scooby's still not doing bad in the Manufacturer's points. Just keep that in mind, and the fact that Loeb's biggest screw up this season came on gravel. And Gronholm is far more prone to screw ups in general. I'm thinking that we'll see some better results from our scooby crew once we get the hell off of the tarmac.
Keep the faith.
Err.. if you say Loeb screw up comes in Gravel, then Petter's screw up comes in everywhere, Gravel and Tarmac. Also, Marcus is more prone to screw up than Petter? Humm... Only one big mistake this year but Petter... a couple...
PLease.. I am driving a Subaru. Make Petter be more competitive. Seriously, at stage 8, and #11 on the leaderboard.... Is it the car or the driver or even both? If car, then Stephane is ahead of Petter. If tires, Gigi is in front of Petter since both uses the same Pirelli tires. Also, what is that all about with Pirelli's new tires package? Its not even doing any improvement!!

Actually, I think Petter has only made one mistake when it counted so far this season, and that was on this rally. In Monte Carlo he was slow because the team's information said that the stages would be dry and sent him off on slicks when in fact the stages froze again after the gravel crews came through. Then the engine died.
Sweden... Petter did make one error in Sweden, going off road. But by the point where he did that he was already so far down the leaderboard due to mechanical problems (drift shaft failure, multiple gearbox problems.) It could be argued that his eventual exclusion was his fault since he stalled the car at the start. But it wouldn't have been such an issue if the starter hadn't died.
He would have won Mexico if the bolt hadn't fallen out of the power steering. Again, it's a mechanical failure that caused poorer results (though second overall isn't that bad a result) rather than driver error.

In Corsica Petter messed up on the first stage, crunched the exhaust, and lost a minute and a half. If it wasn't for that he would be ahead of Sarrazin -- and far ahead of Gigi.
Of course, he'd still be down in seventh, which is not a terribly impressive result. Which just goes to show that there is still a problem here. I just don't think it's all driver error.

You really can't compare the same tires from car model to car model. Each car acts differently to the same tire. A Citroen may do quite well on Pirellis whereas a Subaru won't(just a hypothetical). It's the combination as a whole.
This season, I think it's a little bit of everything for SWRT. Crappy tires, undependable car, drivers not at their best. Then the potential psychological impacts of whatever's going on in upper management.

So, how many more years is Pirelli on contract? [because I can't think of any other reason that they're sticking with them]

You'd think that since Subaru is Pirelli's only factory customer that their tires would work on Subarus if anywhere! I'm thinking they just don't have a competitive product.

And how many times did a Subaru team member spin out? Three?
You don't see these kinds of mistakes in the other teams. Could it be the tires...? Or tires in conjunction with the :( caused by being so far behind the leaders lately...
And how many times has Atkinson gotten into wrecks this season. The past couple rallies, the only footage I saw of Atkinson was of him crashing.
And every time I see a Subaru on the Eurosport coverage, I cringe, because I know the only reason they're showing a Subaru is because of some sort of accident or failure.
It couldn't possibly be the SWRT actually winning a rally this season.
:furious:
Sadly, I'm suddenly losing more and more interest in this years WRC championship...

We can only hope that Subaru is quietly preparing a new monster behind the scenes that will replace the GDx chassis for something more competitive. Is it fair to say that it's now 5+ years old? And whlie I know nothing about the other cars, I would surmise compared to the top 2 running this year, it is significantly larger. I know that the weight of all these cars is about the same, but when you have a larger vehicle, there is just no way it's going to be as tossable or nimble as the little Xsara or Focus on a WRC stage. Am I talking completely out of my a** here?
And how many times did a Subaru team member spin out? Three?
You don't see these kinds of mistakes in the other teams.
Yes, you do. Even Loeb has spun on a couple of stages this year. I don't remember the rallies or stages off-hand, but I do know he has spun more than once this year.
And how many times has Atkinson gotten into wrecks this season. The past couple rallies, the only footage I saw of Atkinson was of him crashing.
Depends on how you define "wrecks". He has only retired due to accident once so far this year, in Mexico. (Where he still finished in points after re-starting.) Sweden he went off-road and damaged the power steering which lost him a lot of time, though he was able to bring the car into service without retiring. Catalunya he went off the road and damaged the suspension, but again was able to continue without retiring. Corsica he bumped the back end of the car and crushed the exhaust, which in turn caused gearbox problems. So the answer to the question is either "once" or "four times", depending on how you want to define things.
I don't think it's fair to judge his performance so far this year based strictly on his results and not take into consideration his level of experience with the rallies. Monte he had never competed in previous to this year. Sweden was his second time ever competing on snow, so it would be unrealistic to expect results there. Catalunya and Corsica he had done only once previously. And they were his sixth and seventh ever tarmac rounds. So the only event he could reasonably be expected to pull down good results on so far was Mexico. The irony there being that's the only event this year he has retired from. Meh.
Chris has a habit of making small mistakes that cost a lot of time. Once he stops that I think you'll see him well up in the standings. Getting onto surfaces and rallies he is more familiar with will help a lot as well. Unfortunately for him, this year all his best events are at the end of the calendar, while all his worst events are at the start.
I think one of the reasons that we are seeing such poor results from Subaru so far this season is that their weakest events are coming at the beginning of the calendar. Sweden and Mexico, yes, there should have been better results. But Subaru is not know for doing well on sealed surface events. So in a way I think it's good that they have the problems early on and get all the gremlins worked out with the car now, on events that they weren't expecting to score well on in the first place. Hopefully that will allow the car to be reliable on the events where the car/driver/tire package traditionally shines.
Subaru usually doesn't introduce the new year's model until after Monte and Sweden are completed. This year due to marketing decisions and rules changes they had to get the new car out in time for the start of the season. I wonder how much the problems we've been seeing are caused by having to get the new car out two months earlier than normal?
