back to the Q&A:
Here goes, the cost will be nominal for the color match. I looked for it today and called a couple suppliers and got a couple prices, not too bad for both you the consumer and myself on the production side (your cost will be my cost). Also thanks WRKnFX1974 for another viable option.
The pod will be very similar with some slight changes:
1>the first to be released will be a 52 and a 60.
2>the hood height is significantly lower on the 52 and slightly on
the 60 (due to the fact the have been slightly sunken into the
base) ***I will post up exactly how much tommorow afternoon
3>They will be angled toward the driver.
As for will it be tied into the vents, only on the GC8. And before you get upset, we will produce and release a full C/F interior kit this spring along with the modified hood/ bonnet (in C/F and Glass) and the trunk lid in both materials as well.
Since I have the molds and can run all the different fibers in the same mold I will make it availible in C/F, fiberglass (colormatched), Kevlar, and carbon kevlar (black and blue, black and yellow, black and red). So, you will have choices. Pics within the week. probably of the proto pieces and will post up more as we see fit and feel confident it is the finished look.
Thanks,
KaSpeR

Tomorrow I will start to assemble what will be one of the first pods to see production the 52 angled and the 60 angled. These will be boxed and ready to ship by sometime february (if I could push up the time frame I would, but mold prep and breakin take time). I hope this does not inconvenience anyone. I will private mail, e-mail, or post up when they are shippable.
The pod that will incorporate the boost controller and contain the clock will run next. From their on out we will produce these three and variations upon special request. The GC 8 will run a couple of weeks behind the WRX.
We will release products for the WRX and the GC8 in waves, I hope to get a website up and running as soon as possible and will set up the hot sheats (what to look for in the months to come, previews, and possible release dates).
I hope this clarifies what will happen in the weeks to follow,

As promised here is the height on the 52 pod:
The overall height at the max point is 2 and 15/16 may be even 3 flat, well actually a little less but I will stick buy this figure. Why, cause I am figuring in possible growth of the mold and the proto.
I read the entire post again this morning, and will apply this to the height of the other one.
The defi measures 3.8 inches at the max point, ours will be no taller than 3 inches on the 52mm pod, and the 60 mm pod is not much taller due to some augmentation.
I will continue to work with the proto and may have a rough glass image to post up around midnight e.s.t.. Please be patient if I don't have the image by then, I am going to try to have it up though. Also let me know if this is satisfactory, and it looks like I will tilt all gauges approximately 4 degrees not much but do aid in ease of viewing.

I have a couple of images that are not bad of the hood. They are not bad, but I will only post up this one image (taken a while back) of the initial sheet design. If you look around the sketch you will see the fabrics that it will be offered in, the red and white is split glass kevlar and fiberglass. This will be the material used for the colormatcehed hood (it is stronger and more durable than straigh fiberglass.
Well this is just a taste, the real images will be up soon. And we were able to move the gauges closer to the driver on the 52 size allowed us to do so. This may help to compensate for the smaller size. Oh and the grey area between the gauges is Lexan on the proto (b/c a friend is putting a shift light in behind the gauges.
Well I hope to have it up tomorrow I have to resize the image, and adjust it. sorry for the inconvinience.

Yes! I like those.
| saewickson | 01-12-2002 08:51 PM |
Not bad, we are doing them a little different though. Yes, the gauges will face the driver. They will more closely resemble the ones porkchop posted up, but slightly modified. One thing that I will say and no offense wieger54, b/c I do not know if you produce these yourself, purchased them or obtained the images online, but the fiber on those is no where near the quality that we put out (on the second one). It appears to be over stressed, and incongruent with the contours of the structure. Please do not take this as a personal attack or bashing, I do appreciate everyones input. We will try to keep fibers flowing as close as possible to the contours of the structure and may have one seam about to mills wide.
I will try to post up a prototype fiberglass image within the week, and then gather feedback again and either scrap the proto and start over or go to production.
Thanks everyone!!!

Hmm... a suggestion?
hows about, interior color and optional carbon fiber trim on the FACE of the pod? ANd of course billet aluminum matching interior trim color also?
Or maybe that'll cost too much? I don't know. ANyone else out there with me on this one? I really think that a factory interior color body of the pod and a billet/brushed or wutever comes standard trim on the car would look EXTREMELY beautiful.
Heck, what do i know? Just a suggestion. I'll certainly match the interior and look stock but still edgy. ANYONE???
BUELLER? ANYONE? BUELLER?

Then just get the Defi unit and cut some sort of rubber support that will make them protrude a lil' at an angle.

Oh please oh please post a picture. I so much want to say that "I'm in" but need to see the pod first :)
From what I gather:
a) It's simmilar to the Defi pod but 0.8" shorter in hieght.
b) holds 3 52mm gauges
c) may or may not be available to match the WRX 02 factory dash color.
Yes, I've seen the picts in this thread but I would prefer to see the actual product (or sample products) :)

I sent a flat panel sketch to a few people, but did not post it up due to the pic being huge. I also have one that is almost done on CAD. The proto itself is nearing completion. This is the latest news....
the base will use replaceable kevlar clips (true plastic tends to break and be brittle) it will be shipped with 4 extra clips. Plus kevlar tends to be bomb proof.
it may or may not include lexan shift light windows (buyers call).
It will be available in both color match fiberglass and C/F.
BlueCamel or anyone who would like to see the prototype flatpanel image e-mail me at and I will send it to you (be warned it is about 875k)
thanks

I hope you're clear on what i meant about the interior trim. You know, that billet aluminum-like trim around the system dash. Something like that would REALLY blend in well. Like, the defi pod is round, maybe the roundtips of the hood had billet aluminum? Agh, i hope you get what i'm saying SAE.
I think that this option would look a WHOLE lot better for the interior of the car. Well, only if you have the billet interior trim instead of the carbon fiber factory option. Makes the pod blend in SOOOO well. I have sucha clear picture of the pod in my head. Man, too bad i don't have the time or resources. :( .
Wellz, hope you can elaborate with pictures and pricing. BYE

Wow, just when I thought this post had died it rises from the dead once again.
At this time (12:15PM E.S.T.), I am working on the pod. I will do a couple of final test fits, hopefully Friday or Saturday. From there I will post up the pics of the proto to gather feedback, and will then go to production if it gets the I-Club members seal of approval.
One recent development is, the pod has presented a unique challenge in the C/F version but nothing major. I did a test of dry layed C/F and found the weave likes to become disoriented (nothing major it just makes it look amatuer) as it comes into the gauge location. So I have to options:
1. splice it and run a 2mm seam around the face.
2. simply blackout the gauge face location
Well that is the news as of late, thanks for the check in,
kasper

I'm glad the project continues on...I know theres many people waiting on this...including myself! =)
I have my gauges..just no home for it..
I had a few questions...
what will the retaining tabs be made out of? Just in case if we need to remove the pod from the car, will the tab stand up to that kind of abuse?
and
the gauge plate(where the gauges fit into the pod) will that be an insert? or a single piece with the pod? I think it'll be neat if you can sell inserts so people can run 52mm or 60mm and can change rather they want the gauges face the driver or straight back.....
just some thoughts..=)
Keep up the good work! and if you need help with anything...you have my email..=)
Thanks again

the clips are an issue that I have been beating my head against a wall about. I have 2 possabilities. The one I believe will be present on the finished product will be a Kevlar Clip, it will be replaceable and will be shipped with 4 extra clips (emergency back-up. And for those in the know, Kevlar is probably one of the most durable materials availible on the market.
Another possible option is, a friend owns an factory that produce 8 GM injection molded retainers. I may be able to give him either a CAD image or one of my plugs to manufacture this piece for me. But, I have the feeling it would raise the price of the piece beyond what I would like to see. I will look into this possability later in the week.
Expect to see the kevlar clips though, I believe they will be the most durable and keep the cost low.
Thanks,
kasper

News
Well it has returned again, so here is the latest. The kevlar clips will be on the production piece.
In related news, the pics should be posted up at the end of the week. I will then post them up and see what everyone thinks. The feedback from home area has been exceptionally positve. I am sorry for the delay, but it is a lot easier to copy a piece as opposed to doing an orignal build-up (which is what both pods are).
In unrelated news I have been kicking around this idea.....WhaT about a housing that fits over the steering column, that retains the hazards and house a boost controller slanted towards the driver for optimal viewing. Just an idea, let me know what you think.
Well, I hope everyone has a good week, thank you for your patience, and I will keep all of you updated.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but some of us can't wait much longer...gotta have the gages so that we can do some other mods!
Maybe I'll just have to break down and buy a DeFi?

Friday or Saturday Pics
i will have the pics up friday or saturday, there has been a huge delay due to some problems that arose both with the pod and personal around here:
1. the clips presented a unique challenge
2. we changed material suppliers
3. we fitted the pod with a wide variation of gauges (to
make sure fit is accurate.
4. my partner's (and best firend) father died so stopped
everything for 4 days.
5 and this morning i dislocated my shoulder, but will go ahead
with regular activity (this is nothing new to me)
***I am not making exscuses for may actions only stating facts***
I am very sorry for the delay and any inconvenience this has created to any and all. I will try to make it up to all of you as best I can. Please feel free to send hate mail after Saturday if I have not posted up the pics yet. Things are just getting crazy, and I hope this has not jaded anyone towards us.
thanks and I am deeply sorry for any inconvinience,
kasper

Thanks for the work you/ve done so far. I'm very interested, depending on price and looks (isn't that always the case). I'm not going to whine about what's better or I'd like more till I see the product!!!

I think this will be worth the wait...
I have exchanged several emails with Kasper and he is a nice guy. He's been working hard on this trying to create a quality part. So it'll be worth it...
Keep up the good work Kasper!

ps I think this is what it might look like....

It should face the driver and look like a clover in stead of 3 lumps allowing for 5 gauges!!!:D :D :D

the whole purpose of this guage pod is to accomodate 52mm guages. The Defi' hood only fits 60's and is a whole inch taller then what Kasper is making, that is why there soo much interest in this guage pod.
