prosport gauges? part 21

blk05wrx 09-20-2009 12:41 AM
Have you seen our new 52mm clocks ? Since so many guys loose the clock when they install the triple gauge pod we came out with 3 different clocks..
I didn't see a clock in green/white. I used loosing the clock as an excuse to pick up a AVIC-F700BT. ;)

It would also be nice to have an A/F in green/white for us WRX guys.
bcWRX-02 09-20-2009 12:52 AM

Do the premium series use different/better senders? Is the build quality different? I'm contemplating whether or not to get the performance vs. premiums, but if the only difference is the peak/warn and the daisy chain setup, I don't really need them. The pic of the boost sender for the premium series on their site looks different than the performance one I had (which failed).

The Premium OP and Fuel Pressure senders is different (smaller and 2% more accurate). Boost and temp use the same sender.

The movements inside All premium series gauges is better than performance series. i.e. -swiss made stepper motors, they are more responsive and more accurate.
Ultimate Collision Center 09-20-2009 09:10 PM

if you can swing the extra cash for the premiums they are well worth it, they are very trick gauges and for me the ease of install is worth the price difference
Prosport Gauges 09-21-2009 07:30 AM

Having a warning indicator on OP is very valuable. The gauges are only good if your looking at them. Now, with beeping/flashing it will warn you if you loose oil press. even if your not paying attention.
We do get several emails/phone calls a year thanking us for saving their motor. In many cases, guys blew a hose during normal driving and would not have normally been checking gauges..

Just wanted to post some info here about my Prosport Premium Boost Gauge.

I have an 09 WRX and I have it mounted in the included pod with 3M tape. It's on the top of the left side of the visor on the speedo cluster. Similar to where the SPT gauge would be mounted if a dealership installed it.

The only problem I have had so far was entirely my own fault. I was noticing erratic boost readings, and Ryan at Prosport suggested I check the sender where the electrical connection is, and sure enough it had a bit of gunk in it. I cleaned it out and everything worked perfectly.
I had the sender mounted on the "tab" on the back of the TMIC where there was already a hole. But I had the electrical connection facing the front of the car. I turned it around so dirty misty road water wouldnt hit it directly from the hood scoop anymore, and problem solved.

Overall I'm extremely happy with this gauge. It seems to respond well and is accurate as compared to the boost readings from the OBDII port (Tactrix OpenPort 2.0). It also matches the rest of the cluster on my 09 very well. The "blank face" when off is nice, as well as the opening ceremony.

The peak/warning is a nice feature, though I like the warning muted (it's loud! Anyone wondering if they'll hear it over the stereo -- you will, even if you're deaf). It was of great value when tuning to know what my peak boost was without trying to look at the little numbers on the laptop or stare at the gauge while at WOT.

The only thing stopping me from adding more Prosport gauges is the limited amount of mounting options available to the 08+!
davidtt485 09-21-2009 05:11 PM

got my last gauge in on friday, yes it was late but was not ALL prosports fault, the only issue i had was when they updated my product to partially shipped, it turns out they didnt actually ship the hood, instead it came in with the gauge. I got it though and hopefully everything works okay. Thanks ryan for communicating with me, much better than the dude i had by email.

My mailman is the most laziest piece of **** there is he just puts the package slip in the mailbox and leaves with your package.
The post office wait is another long ****ing story .

I've seen this and I love it. I could do it myself, but I really don't have the time to do it without rushing and I've never used fiberglass before. I'm waiting for some ambitious young entrepreneur to start making and selling them to the 3rd generation community. I think it really wouldn't take too much for someone to do that... plus if they did it as a pillar exchange (get the gauge A pillar and blank passenger A pillar painted, then send in your driver and passenger A pillars afterward) it could probably keep costs down, too! HINT HINT anyone reading this, you could make a lot of money!! ;)

I had a bear of a time trying to install the oil pressure sending unit using the galley plug method. It simply doesn't fit there, and there is no way to get a wrench on it to tighten it.

Has anyone had luck with the relocation kit from WRXtra?

That's why I went with the oil filter sandwich adapter !
you can run a oil pressure gauge and oil temp gauge sender units with no problems.

relocation unit is also a great choice but can only feed one sender unit
blk05wrx 09-22-2009 03:25 PM

For some reason I thought the galley plug would be easier. Plus I didn't want the dealership to ask me what it was, or take it off, etc. every time I went in for an oil change.

So, does anyone have this, and does it bolt up to the Prosport sender?

That relocation kit is wonderful, anyways if you dont have one and want to fit the sensor in either two of the galley plugs get a foot wrench or a sandwich adapter plate. Prosport gauges are pretty good for the money.

Xcelr8to1320 09-22-2009 06:27 PM

I had a set of prosports and my oil pressure gauge seemed to hate me or something. It was a premium oil pressure gauge, but at highway crusing the pressure would bounce up to 10 psi when the cruise was set and the rpm's weren't changing at all. Other than that my boost and oil temp gauges gave me no problems.
blk05wrx 09-22-2009 10:37 PM

Here is a pic of my set up.

There is a slight gap on the pod that I'm going to fix this weekend. I just need to do a little adjustment, but I ran out of time on Sunday.

The oil pressure doesn't work, so I've got a new sender coming and I'm going to get the relocation kit also b/c it's pretty much impossible to install the galley plug and the performance series sender in the space provided.

Hopefully everyone can see this image.

bbosko17 09-30-2009 05:23 PM

but they are not the premiums.Roommate got me the regulars i guess he bought the premiums.
ryan_west06 10-01-2009 09:13 AM

only the premium gauges can warn and do the peak recall feature.
klorti 10-01-2009 10:41 PM

How long is the daisychain cable for the premium series? would it reach from the clock pod to a gauge installed in a cluster surround?
under0athh51189 10-01-2009 10:46 PM

prosport makes amazing gauges. i live by a prosport dealer and they have awesome products. highly recomended. looking to buy the new digital clock they sell. looks awesome.

I also installed the relocation kit. Much, much easier. The instructions say it can be done without removing the intercooler. It can't. If you're going to use the galley plug for your oil pressure gauge, get the relocation kit.

How did you fix this gap? I'm trying to do the same thing to mine. We have the same exact setup.
blk05wrx 10-06-2009 04:40 PM

There are five tabs total hanging off of the bottom of the metal mounting bracket.

1.) I bent up the long tab on the front so that it is flat. This makes the bracket sit flat on the floor.
2.) I trimmed about an 1/8th of an inch off of the two forward tabs. This allows it to sit flat on the plastic piece.
3.) I bent the two forward tabs up a little so that the front would sit lower. I did not attach these to the plastic piece. Only my rear tabs are attached.
4.) On the underside of the plastic cover there are two ridges. These were rubbing on the metal gauge holder. I used a dremel to shave those down so they didn't rub. This probably won't help fix the gap, but it made the plastic cover much easier to slip on.

Ordered Premium Electrical Boost, EGT, and Oil Pressure today along with an ATI pod. I'll report back with my experience.
damnitzryan 10-19-2009 10:27 PM

Should I hook up the Oil Pressure unit via the sandwich plate method or the gallery plug method? I remember seeing a post about someone's sandwich plate gasket destroying itself.

What guage pod kit is that? I really like it. I am getting prosport guages but didn't see it on there site. Thanks.

Blubullt02 10-21-2009 05:45 AM

I installed a prosport electric boost gauge yesterday, and i love the way it looks, and the startup, but when i turn the car on the "on" position, the gauge reads at 3 vacuum  im pretty sure thats night right. is there anyway to calibrate it?
damnitzryan 10-21-2009 05:58 PM

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to read 0. With the engine off, there shouldn't be any vacuum or boost.

I have the Premium electrical boost, EGT, and oil pressure along with an ATI pod on the way!
Blubullt02 10-21-2009 07:40 PM

Thanks for the clarification. I finished the installation of the Boost, EGT last night and will finish the OP on Monday when my remote sender kit comes in from Ryan. These gauges are terrific!

Only issue I had was Prosport unrelated. One of my exhaust bolts were completely seized on, which was out of my control since it has never even been touched. I ended up applying enough force to snap the nut and bolt in half. Good thing I have tons of extra bolts laying around.

Then something is wrong with the connections to the sender or the sender itself. If it is less than one year, send it in to us to check/replace if needed. Over a year- then buy another one as well sell replacement parts for everything.
