shift knob pictures part 2

iofdetiger 05-30-2004 01:03 AM

haha i got a free auto wrx, and i always get **** from you guys. so if i faked a manual, maybe i'd get some respect yo'. but anyways, i hate the stock shift knob for the auto, and if i just put a different knob on there, it looks weak. so thats why i wanted to know. but you're right, it probably is stupid.
Myulrchi 05-30-2004 04:31 AM

whoa, your's is CF? I thought it was like the ones in the Chaste Automotive link I put above. I guess I've never seen one like your's.

Mine's a hard plastic. Very light, with small concentric ridges up and down the sides.

The knob came with the car. Here's a sight that has them for $35. http://www.alamomotorsports.com/products.html?http://www.alamomotorsports.com/greddy_shift.htm

The cool thing about the counter weighted is it makes the shifts feel really solid and smooth.
DomozitoLK 06-01-2004 10:46 PM

Where did you get (or where am I able to buy) the Momo shift pattern sticker? I've seen ProDrive versions too. I ideally like a Momo version with silver or red logo.

Thanks!

DomozitoLK 06-12-2004 05:01 PM

Got mine from the classifieds here (Momo Race Air Leather) used. Also bought an Autospeed STI-style shifter trim.

I might be interested in selling my knob if anyone is interested, or trading for the 2000-2001 2.5RS shift knob (black leather w/red stitching), also known as the JDM 5MT STI knob.

Email me with pics and/or offers: [emailprotected]

Thanks!

AK_2002_WRX 06-21-2004 04:17 AM

i have the momo race airleather.
is there anyway to get the shift boot to stay up against the knob?
quest 06-21-2004 04:56 AM

someone makes an adapter that should work for it (Paulie I think)...do a search for him, and you should find something.
sirbryanclark 07-01-2004 01:15 AM

Alright! I finally have an aftermarket shift knob! Now I can post a picture on the thread I started!

Hank3 07-01-2004 09:01 AM

Now get that Paulie adapter sirby :)

...or wrap some rubber bands on the shifter so the boot seats properly ;)
hph 07-01-2004 09:49 AM

Anyone know of an "ergonomic" knob that will accommodate the STi reverse-lift lock?

I'm looking for something like my Momo F-16 (rather than a purely spherical knob) for my new STi. HPH
2002pete 07-01-2004 09:50 AM

Inserted a washer into the gear boot to keep it up

Pete.
sirbryanclark 07-01-2004 12:41 PM

yeah, i need to do that... the only reason i haven't yet, is because the boot meets up with the knob perfectly, except when in neutral... but in any gear it meets up perfectly, kinda strange
Timdog82001 07-01-2004 04:11 PM

How did you paint those little holes? What kind of paint did you use?

DanZ 07-01-2004 05:51 PM

Pete's idea looks like it works to hold up the boot, but I did something different.

I have the Momo airleather. I installed my knob w/o the bottm piece that covers the tapping screws. Then I proceeded to stretch the hole of the boot to fit over the bottom of the knob, when that screw piece cover is supposed to go.

Don't scretch it too much. Mine looks perfect, stays snug and has been there for more than a year.

I have the smaller STI titanium knob.. i didn't like it.. FREEKING COLD in teh winter... plus it was too small for my likeing.. went back to stock on my TB shifter..
sirbryanclark 07-02-2004 03:42 PM

i think i will try the washer method... looks like an easy/clean way to do it...

Well - most of the vibration damping takes place in the shift lever itself (if you look at it, it's filled with a rubber material to dampen vibrations) - I like the STi titanium one and the Subaru CF one alot - I am not a big fan of the large, round ones... if you really want to feel everything, get a solid shortshifter and replace the shifter bushings with the Kartboy ones.
...which is what I did: KB short shifter, bushings, and STi titanium.

Cold in the winter? YES
Hot in the summer? YES

It serves as a reminder that you should be shifting faster!!!

That's what I mean (only mine's wood, like this ).

But what I need now is one of these with a base that will accommodate that reverse-gear lift-ring on the STi. HPH

It's the Subaru carbon fiber one - so any dealership (online or otherwise) can get it. As far as I know, there is no leather one which looks like that.
