funny you mention that....He and a friend are actually doing quite well...He is in charge of a "Evolution" type driving school in Peru....Autocross has gone global..;)...

good luck to all of you at the solo ....bring home LOTS of wood..;)
If the STI is hitting 3rd, it is more of an Evo course. However, with all the transitions and sloloms, the East course is definitely M3 "friendly" in STU.

Mike Neary will have his revenge.

Dave
I doubt A-Stock STI drivers with 275/45/17 r-comps will hit third. With those oversized tires, 2nd is good to 61-62mph, and they may only hit their limiter a few times if at all throughout the East Course.

Mike should definitely do well on the East course. It'll all come down to if he is able to establish a good enough lead. AWD should definitely rule on the tighter West course.

Early word is that after Day 1, the Tak/Lieber Evo is in front of BSP with a 48.9. Justin is sitting 2 seconds back with a 50.9.

How is Piccione doing in his E36 M3? How are the C4 corvettes handling the west course - and any of them close to Tak's time?
Corey 09-26-2006 11:32 AM

Sitting here in STU grid.

Fast time riight now is a Burkhart. Rankins in 2nd. Heinrich coned third. First runs almost done.

Thanks! Any idea where Neary is sitting right now? How's Max Hayter (Pro Finale chmap) doing?
Corey 09-26-2006 11:48 AM

Sounds like KC is in third right now... trying to find a good place to spectate from. I think BS is done second runs. STU looks like Mike Neary has fastest raw time with a cone.
jcroy66 09-26-2006 11:49 AM

Corey, you rock!! How's STXL going?
Corey 09-26-2006 11:54 AM

Max is sitting mid pack but I can't see the course so he could have had a bobble that I didn't see. Second runs happening now for STU. looks like Burkhart dropped more time. Neary coned again.
Corey 09-26-2006 12:00 PM

STXL is Cara Ness followed by Amy Olsen after 1st runs. I might miss an update or 2 here in a little bit.

Cool, good for Cara! (I met her this weekend when she spent the night here on the way to Topeka.)
Draken 09-26-2006 12:05 PM

Is there supposed to be at least a link off the nationals page for results? I must be missing it...
Corey 09-26-2006 12:07 PM

Looks like Max is in 8th right now. Second runs still happening. I think Burkhart is still leading.
Corey 09-26-2006 12:21 PM

STXL taking second runs now.

Kathy Fitzpatrick getting a rerun. Cara Ness still leading after second runs.

STU taking 3rd runs.

Wow... Branden just went 53 with a cone... Only 53 so far. OK Neary goes out of it with a 59. It was his only clean run.
Rankins sitting out of the trophies right now.

Has Rankins taken his third run yet?
Corey 09-26-2006 12:38 PM

2nd drivers in STU going now.

Last runs for STU...

Terry Fair moving up but not leading...

OK Neary went 54 not 59 and he was clean so he is right up there.

Max probably in a high trophy spot with a 55.

Sipe dirty all runs.

I can't be sure but it sounds like burkhart then neary then a bunch of people real close.

I gotta go help a buddy in GS.
jcroy66 09-26-2006 01:01 PM

Link is up now. Has some results (FS, F125, DP).
Nice result by Neary! What ever happened to Steve Rankins????!
Werd,
I seriously thought he was a shoe-in for the title this year.

Was he one of the people who was impounded?
racerjon1 09-26-2006 02:58 PM

I just got off the phone with Rankins, he is 17th, 1.7 seconds out of first.
As to his times he said "I don't know what happened, everything felt the same as it had, the times just were not there"

He said he went out on his first run and wanted a clean run, and to look at the course, and on the 2nd run he went "balls to the wall" and his time was only 6 tenths faster. On his third, he tried to be more controlled, and his time was the same as the first run.

"I guess the trick is to just go nuts and not hit any cones" he said. THis might explain why Sipe was dirty and Neary was dirty his first two runs.

He was also upset by the protest, which took two hours he said and he was never told what the deal was. Eight cars were protested for holes in the fender liners, and he is one of them. He says the hole is a penny-sized hole, and caused by him doing a track event. He has put duct-tape over the hole for Tara's STUL runs, and will show that it isn't rubbing when the duct tape is still clean after the runs.

I heard from another source that the protest was SEB, but steven didn't know if that was the case if it was, and hasn't been told about it.

Jon, any word on GS results?

Joe
racerjon1 09-26-2006 03:13 PM

Nothing about GS.. it was hard enough for Mike and I to get those STU results. (Evidently they pulled down the provisional results from the board when it was under protest, Rankins didn't even see a list for more than an hour after the runs ended)

D-Stock results...
I spoke with Justin (alltracin) just a few moments ago. He's currently sitting around 22nd out of 39 in D-Stock - they ran the tight West Course today. His best run was a 54.1, and the class leader turned a 52.1. Four ITR's occupy the top spots, and an SRT-4 ACR sits in 5th.

Justin mentioned he is beating Pozner and Snyder's times (two solid ITR drivers in the DC/MD/PA area), but the West course definitely favors the ITR's this year.

Justin - checking in...

wow...what a crazy day...in the end I am in a good mood...lol

Current status 11/26 and I think I can still get into the trophies if I don't drive with my head in my ass..

Recap

Grid - ok but it's so tight people were running over their own equipment..

Looking around everyone had reflector material or tire blankets. It was 52F this morning and literally the sun was rising on the horizon for all 3 runs.

1st run - LFB'd all the way to the start line to heat up the rotors....the start didn't favor a launch so I didn't....got out on course and my eyes were not looking where they should and the sun was right in my face going eastbound and I was all over the place...sand everywhere sucks vs being in one corner. I was the 18th car on course. Go off line a little bit and **** hit the fan...made a couple good saves...not so good first run.
Get back to grid and my tires are still COLD...

2nd run - LFB'd again to the start to heat things up and when I get to the traffic area I have two course workers giving me opposite handsignals because they can't see what each other is doing, then one get's pissed off at me and yells at me so I yell at them and then get all pissed and speed up the stage...launched this time to try to heat the tires...2nd run was much better and I dropped time...didn't get late on the slalom as bad into the finish...the car on C16 is just mean...well back in grid a friend touched my tires and laughed at how cold they were....that felt great, lol.

3rd run - LFB - narly launch and finally got my head up and pulled a run to at least put me in trophy range (crosses fingers) there was only 2 or so of the trophy spots that weren't the second driver on a co-driver team. AT 8am, no sun, and 52F means you need a co-driver to get heat in the tires...

Tomorrow I plan on pulling out the axle changing tools and doing as big a burn-out style launchs as possible otherwise I will be screwed just as much..

..all in all it was a fun day and I learned that 1st and 2nd heat out here in september will need co-drivers..

wish me luck...there are more details but this post is long enough....damn those evo's are fast...

pretty much sums it up

We'll see how tomorrow shakes out. The launch is much more of a factor tomorrow, as well as it being a course more oriented to staying in boost. It's transition heavy which doesn't bode well for my stock shocks, but who knows. 15th is only .5 seconds away....lol 15th.

S2000s are better than Subarus... ;)
You know, you try and go to sccaforums for info, then you try and go to s2ki.com for info. S2000 owners are too worried about what wheels to buy for the week though, so there is not a single thread on Nationals. Head over to NASIOC and there is a 8 billion page thread on nationals, *sigh*.

Anyway, wish I could be there to kick some Subaru ass in AS, but Wynveen will have to do that for me. Thanks for all the updates, too bad this site is blocked at work and I am just hitting refresh on scca.org all day. Hoping the local AS gang can take home the win, Cashmore and Wynveen are looking good!

Chris Fenter, the only guy brave enough to run Hankooks in STX is doing great! Go Chris! Good luck everyone on day two, and Thursday/Friday.
