2006 SCCA Solo Nationals thread part 5

rt4me 08-31-2006 03:39 PM
Can someone give me a breakdown of how many years some of the STU guys have been atuocrossing?
I started in early 2000. I've been running STU for around 2 years. I ran in STS and local "tire" classes prior to that (Neons mostly with some co-drives in a well prep'd Civic).

This will be my 3rd year at Nationals.
thrdeye 08-31-2006 03:47 PM

Wow. Yeah, I'm just trying to see how much experience some of you have compared to us.
BlkWRXWag 08-31-2006 03:48 PM

This is my first year in STU. I started in STX in 2004.
Umm.... good luck with that..... You know that Joel and Tommy barely trophied last year, right?

Karen
zero nationals trophies.... yeah, that's right, zero :(
Then again I drove like dung and Tommy coned all of his day 2 runs...

I think bringing home a trophy is a reasonable goal for Justin. Good luck to both of you.
thrdeye 08-31-2006 05:42 PM

Uhh, hypothetically speaking here....since STU is supplemental, what do you get if you trophy?
AUTOwrXER 08-31-2006 05:42 PM
Jason Uyeda. Ankeny Racing Ent. / Church Automotive Tuning BSP S2000. The Evo IX is probably the car to have in BSP... How come Mchugh gets no love in AS?
I'm sorry I'm not going to see the Honda this year. Many people think it's the hot ticket for BSP. It's interesting to hear you say that you like the Evo IX. I think course design will determine the best BSP car, as their are many cars that could win on some courses, and only a few that have a chance on others. If it's transition heavy then the advantage moves from bimmer to Honda IMO. If it's slow (or wet) then watch out for the AWD cars. If it's a fast course then the 'Vette still looks damn good.

Previously had Mike Neary in STU since Rankins wasn't a choice, Rankins has now been added to the ballot and got my vote! I never noted before on STU-L, and I've now voted for Tara Knolls who was 2nd last year in STX-L.

41 entries in DS.... 4.8% Subaru! There's also a Cobalt SS registered, apparently run by the GM performance division. I hope I beat that thing
My prediction is that it will be the next Neon SRT. Even Daddio couldn't make that car competitive (right Per?). I see no advantages of the Cobalt over the Neon (which had a factory Quaife, btw).
I'm a little surprised no one is talking about Simanyi and Teague. Do people think that the M3 has no chance, except if Mike Neary is driving it? Simanyi and Teague have beaten me at every Tour event I've been to this year:D

You still get a trophy like the regular classes (at least that was the case last year). If you come in first you just don't get "the jacket" and I guess you're not officially a national champion.

I think KC can answer it best but I believe you are considered a 'class winner'?

Didn't Rick Jung have the fastest raw time in STU last year ... at least on one of the days ...

No. He best raw time each day was in the 62s and there were clean 61s each day by others.

The Cobalt SS has an available LSD, but if it's anything like that awesome unit in the F-body, it's very limited, indeed. I wasn't particularly impressed with the non-SC Cobalts at the RevItUp, but it's hard to say what a set of shocks, an alignment and some sticky tires might do for the car.

Of course, I am not much of a FWD person anyway, so what do I know? :(

His two-day-sum scratch time was faster than Branden's winning time (and faster than Branden's best two-day-sum scratch time).

But Mike's two-day-sum scratch time was even faster.

I would say the East... The West coast boys all belong to Team Blew Racing.

Click on the Indexed results for that event, Note the placement of Team Blew members ... note that tough guy, skin head, don't mess with me, no more mister Nice Guy, Max Hayter ran in BSP that evening ... if he had run in his usual STU class he would have indexed near the top.

bla bla bla..... :o All of those old GRA guys cant see at night. :D
ULLLOSE 09-01-2006 12:15 AM

On a more serious note the West coast STU guys have done much better this year, no more getting whooped by J Rho in a IS300 drift car, but when/if STU becomes a full natl class the bar will be set way higher. The single most impressive drive in STU this year I have seen was Brian Peters in Denver, that is how fast an STU car should be.
makofoto 09-01-2006 12:16 AM

GRA = 8 National Championships in '05

With their experience, they don't need to see ... they can feel the edges of the cone bases ...

But you're right about age and night ... Barco had his fastest lap without headlights in the low light levels. This old guy tried it w/o lights ... and was truly half blind in the dark even though I helped design and lay out the course!

3 sets of Nationals rims and tires stollen from garage
I know this is way off topic, but since this thread is getting a bit of traffic and is very current I figured I would post here.

Last night after 12:30 am and before 8:00am, all three sets of my rims and tires were stollen from my garage.

1 set of rota torques (Hyper black), with a brand new set of shaved 235/40/17 Falken 615's.

1 set of rota boosts (grey) with a brand new set of Yok Neova's 235/40/17 shaved

and

1 set of black rota boosts with a brand new set of shaved 235/40/17 Falken 615's.

All the wheels are in 48 offset and the tires are freshly shaved.

I am posting, since I feel they will show up somewhere, hopefully in a classified ad or something. Please let me know if you see any of these up for sale. This happened in North Hollywood Ca and is now the second time I have been ripped off out of my garrage. I do believe it is an inside job, since one would have to come prepared to leave with three sets of mounted wheels and tires and since it is impossible to know the items even exist unless you were to walk into the garrage.

I can be reached at two one three-215-seven 2 88

Sorry for the off topic post.... but these boards are the best way to get info out for a subaru specific item.

Crap Jeff, that blows a big one. Good luck finding the perps.
DrBiggly 09-01-2006 12:29 PM

Holy crap! Jeff, that's horrible man. :(

edit: I have a set of Enkei RPF-01s in 17x8 that are yours to use if you want; I'm trying to find a way to get them to Topeka. I also have a set of Rota 17x7.5 (Tarmacs) with no tires on them as well if you need them. Let me see what I can arrange from local folks going out there.

edit2: Called Jeff; wheels on standby for now; just say the word and I'll get them out there. :)

thrdeye 09-01-2006 12:30 PM

Man, that really really blows.

Does STX run tues/wed? If so, and if you can't get any other wheels and tires, let me know. We will roll out on my kooks that I've been using and you can use them, as we have a new set of kooks for the STi.

I have used them all year, so they're not at the top of theri game any longer, but it's better than nothing.
buzz313th 09-01-2006 01:23 PM

You guys are soo fricken cool... I really appreciate and may take up on the offers... I should be able to get the stuff replaced... but it's the shaving that I won't be able to get done, since trackside is the only shaver and they are on the road now..

I honestly am not worried about making it to Nationals on some wheels and tires, I am much more interested in gutting the ****ers who did this, so please keep an eye out. If you see anything that matches up, gimme a call and point me in the direction of the info... I would be much more satisfied if these people pay than anything else.

Thanks... see ya all soon...

Tirerack shaves tires, or Vilven Tire in IL. Also check with Mark Durst, they use some place in Vegas.

btw I would find out where that PKer guy was last night, he seems kind of shady.

+ 1 for Frisby in Ill. you can drop ship there, they do a great job. Have them shipped to Toledo and I'll throw them in the van and bring them out. Somebody mounts at Nats' don't they?

Also have spare 17x8 torques with me if the need arises.

Hope you catch em' Is nothing sacred, taking a mans' wheels 2 weeks before nationals:(

The warm-up is only three runs... but on a supposedly longer course.
ULLLOSE 09-01-2006 04:07 PM

The SCCA, not KS region, test and tune is going to use one of the left over Prosolo Finale courses. KS region is going to use the rest of the pad.
thrdeye 09-01-2006 04:09 PM

So there'll be one prosolo course and one other course?

....that'll be okay.
Tirerack shaves tires, or Vilven Tire in IL.
+1 for Vilven! They did an awesome job with our tires earlier this year. $10-15/tire for shaving, I think it was? I know it was $100 total, including the shipping to Ohio.

TireRack will shave tires that they sell. $25/tire (for street tires).

Okay, 12 pages and I'm in. My name Jose(locals call me Paco,or Mr. Beagle). This is my going to be my first Solo Nationals event. It's also going to be my furthest trip out west!! I'll be running my Silver Bugeye sedan in SM. Can miss it really, it'll look like a rollerskate on the 17x10 CCW wheels! HAHAHA
I'm really not sure what to expect other than some really fast drivers.

PSCC Seahorse, sorry! Need that SK2/HS PAX..... :D

The STS Impreza's were 2.5RS's. While the Impreza L is lighter, it has a tad less horsepower, rear drums, and about $10K less in my budget than I would like to spend. If I was building an STS car, it would have been a Civic....or BMW. Alerady been there, won the National Trophy. Time for something different :)

I figure HS will keep me out of trouble for a while, and still have plenty of room in the back for a baby seat.
