2007 DRL disable different than 2006?

we're having a discussion on iwsti about trying to find a way to disable DRL's on 07's. What I've found so far is that the relay that controls DRL's on the 06 is not on my 07.
It may be that cars with HID's may not have their DRL's controlled the same way. For example, I found a diode (#b95 if you have a wire diagram) that seems to have an impact on the DRL's if I pull it.
BTW, this diode has 3 wires (G, GR, and GY) coming into it and it is taped to the relay that feeds the light on the glove box --the one with purple wires.
If I pull this diode, DRL's are off, but HID's don't work either. The small light above the DRL/brights is on, however.
I figure I'm close. Any help? BTW, I have pics if anyone wants to host.

I also have an 07 STI and I was wondering about that too. Do you have a link to the IWSTI thread?

Hey guys.. this might help us out! Some of the folks at LegacyGT.com have had the same problem and have seemed to find the fix. Perhaps our set up is similar to the 07 Legacy HIDs. Here is a link:

I don't think it's apples to apples. They are cutting a wire from their DRL module in order to keep their DRL's off. The only thing close we have (that's been found so far) is the diode that affects all the lights (except the DRL's that are above the HID's). There doesn't seem to be a DRL module on the 07.
I just want my HID's to turn off during the day. Can this be asking too much?
I don't have a voltmeter to see what wire gets how much power and when, so I'm at a standstill to see if this diode is any help in the first place.

06 sti's do have hid DRL's but all you have to do is unplug the module under the glove box near the door jam side of that area. sorry that 07's are not as easy. funny that they decided to make it harder on the 07's

Looking at the wiring diagrams nhluhr posted on iwsti: just locate the blue connector B280 underneath the center dash near the gas pedal, and cut & insolate both ends of the Green/Yellow wire A16 on that connector. I'll make some editted pics of this if people need.

Please do... I had an 05 Legacy GT and it was just so easy to do... crawl up under the driver side dash and disconnect. But now with this new 07 STI Ltd I don't see anything, and i have looked at the diagram on IWSTI.com, that I cun just unplug! If you can dumb this down as much as possible I would really appreciate it!

Well, I finally had some time to do this mod, taking out the glove box is the most time consuming part of it, and totally necassary! You guys were right, no pictures are needed apart from the ones already provided for the "diode" and the black module. I cut becuase it was easier, I didn't have a pin out tool and I won't ever want the DRL's back! I am so glad to be rid of those damn drl's... thanks for doing the leg work guys so that other less technical folks, such as myself, could do this mod.

I know this post is old, but were you serious when you asked this question?
Just as you're able to turn a switch to turn on HID lights, a company is able to make the CPU turn on the lights for you.

Disable DRLs on a 2007 impreza outback sport wagon?

I've been following these threads on multiple websites and I'm trying to figure out how to disable the DRLs on my 07 impreza outback sport. Every link I find seems to be for the WRX/STI models with HID headlamps though.
I have looked under the hood and did find the "caution, may get hot" resistor...but am not particularly crazy about unplugging a connector under the hood where it is exposed to the weather
I have looked up under the glove box and I don't see a 10-pin connector going into a square shaped box. None of the pictures on any of these forums look like similar to behind my glove box.
Anyone know where the relay connection is on an 07 impreza?

It looks like B102, but I don't know enough about wiring diagram to know what to do with it. It does look like the resistor (b5) can be disabled too... I will look at it with my mechanic buddy tomorrow...

I could be mistaken but I believe that relay isn't there. Isn't that the relay which is supposed to be in the 02-06 wrx's but missing from the 07's? I understand the wiring diagram is for the 07.. but I'm skeptical. I'll take apart the glove box and see if it's there tomorrow.

That's what I thought too, but I haven't had a chance to check. I unplugged the resistor in the engine bay and electrical taped the crap out of the harness, but I would rather do it inside the cabin if possible.

DRL's gone

OK, so after looking at the wiring diagram, I have a solution that works, and has not had any ill effects (for the one day it has been off).
B102 is behind the glovebox. It is a Black relay with 5 wires. You can see it at the bottom of the first page in the wiring diagram. The middle wire is a Yellow/Red that connects a path to ground through the resistor under the hood. It is labeled (3) in the wiring diagram. Disconnect this path to ground, and the DRL's won't work. It is effectively the same as unplugging the resistor under the hood, except nothing is open or exposed under the hood.
If you can figure out how to get the connector out of the wiring clip, then that is probably the best way to go. I felt like I was going to break the clip before I got the connector out, so I just cut the wire about two inches from the clip and taped them up. I can always reconnect it later if needed.
Put the glove box back on and try them out...
As always, do this at your own risk, but it worked fine for me...

Nice work. The black clip next to the blue one correct?... Would you mind taking a picture if possible just to confirm the location?
| garretts77 | 02-01-2007 11:29 PM |
Yeah, Right behind the glove box. The blue is closer to the door, and the black is closer to the center of the car. There are only two relays there. I don't have my camera right now, but if you take the glove box off, it is as plain as day. The middle wire in the Black clip.
A pinout tool or something may be the ticket to getting the wire connector out of the clip, but I had neither the tool or the patience...

Since Garrets77 tried this mod, I felt a little safer trying it out. I figured I'd take some pics to show everyone. The hardest part for me was pulling the glovebox!
Here's the black B102 relay pulled off. I'm not sure if you have to do this to pull out the pin, but I removed the white locking piece by gently disengaging on both sides (the circled area and opposite side).

See the white locking piece out of the connector.

At first, I didn't realize that the whole gold pin came out, so I was trying to push in between the gold contacts. Anyways, I used a toothpick and pressed directly in the center. Anything blunt should be able to push it out.

Pull it through the white locking piece, tape it up, plug the relay back in, and you're done!
Here's the pin out of the connector.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I'll let you know how it goes...but again, thanks!

To SilvrWRX and garretts77, did this mod also disable the city lights and tails?
Thanks,
Ed

The tails never came on with the DRL's (at least not on my car). Now there are no lights on without you turning them on with the light switch. The city lights and tails and headlights all function once activated at the switch.
If you want a preview of what it will look like, then just unplug the resistor under the hood on the passenger side strut tower. The mode listed above essentially does the same thing, as this is the wire that goes to that resistor.

Anyone tried just leaving the entire relay unplugged like we did with our '02-'06s?

When I pulled off the B102 relay completely, the headlights didn't work at all.

Sorry for the confusion, but didn't see your similar answer in E&L until after I posted here.

I tried the same thing but I ran into a little problem. At first i tried to push the pin out just like in the pics with a tooth pick and then some other random blunt items but it wouldnt budge (i removed the little white plastic peice n everything). So i said screw it and just cut the wire. At first everything seemed fine and the DRLs were disabled. This was last night. This morning I take the car out and the "Cruise" light on the dash starts blinking...
I tested the cruise control and it wouldnt work or respond to anything so the light just kept flashing and didnt stop. THe DRLs were disabled but it was at the expense of the stupid cruise light flashing in the dash and no more cruise control. I think im going to reconnect the wire and see if anyone else has similar issues...

Are you sure you got the correct wire? I did this mod a couple of months ago, and it works fine. I have no DRL's and I use my cruise control daily...
