What about the Prodrive Floor mat and carpet set?
Hey guys,
I posted a topic concerning the crappy carpets on scoobynet and a dude in UK mentioned the suggestion of perhaps pursuing the Prodrive floor mat/carpet mats for replacement.
What do you guys think?? All I can say is that i went to the Mastro Meet in Tampa, FL and I personally saw the quality of the Prodrive Floor Mats. Now I was thinking since Mastro is a Prodrive Distributor, perhaps I can contact Bill at Mastro to see what the possibility of obtaining more info on the carpet from Prodrive with respect to quality/price/availability.

Start saving your pennies!
I've found a place that WILL make a molded plush carpet for the MY93-01 Impreza.
[SOA confirms that the 2 & 4 door all uses the same carpet.]
I am expecting pricing and other details to many projected questions soon. Once I get this info I will post, and then step out of the picture since all orders will be placed directly thru him.
The only thing I know currently is that he needs at least 50 orders to justify making the mold, and will offer a special one time discount price. After the initial order the price per piece will go up. Also there will a color selection, (don't know about yellow...).
There is nothing else right now, so please don't ask.
Just get the cash ready for your "new molded plush carpet".
Stay tuned.

As it stands right now there won't be a need for a list, last count of the "old" list was well over 50 people; when others hear of the special I-Club price for the first batch I'm sure he'll get the #ers he need to proceed with production.
It is an established business with a website, all orders will be to them directly on-line or by phone.

Update;
We are still a go on carpet!
He's waiting for prices, colors, and sample material from his molder.
He also states that it takes a month to make the initial mold and complete a quality check test install in an actual car.
*Once he has this info he'll update his site, and then begin accepting orders.
Once again; as soon as he has payment in hand for 50 pieces he will then provide funding to make the mold, and start the process rolling on the initial production.
No dates have be set yet, if his molder gets prices to him this week realistic shipout dates should be late August/early September.
First ordered=first shipped.

Update:
The vendor who is in Vancouver,WA is still waiting for prices/colors, and samples from his manufacturer who is located in the South Eastern region. He now need a member in that area to volunteer their car to have the mold made which will take 5 hours. In return this person will get a FREE carpet and matching floormat.
If interested please let me know.
I am not associated with this vendor, as a matter of fact we have never met in person. I just want a better carpet for my car.
Here is his last e-mail:
-------------------------
Hello Albert.
I am told that when I have 50 confirmed orders for the carpets, that it
will take two to three weeks to build the mold. The carpet is a one piece
carpet, and comes with the underlayment (padding) attached to it. During
the time that the mold is being made, I will accept additional orders at
the introductory price. After the initial run, the price will be adjusted
up to the normal selling price, and will also be available in the normal
cut pile material as well as the plush carpet material. I will post the
colors of the plush carpet on a private web page for your members to see,
after I receive the color samples.
I also need someone who owns one of these vehicles and lives near
Atlanta, GA or Chattanooga, TN or Dalton, GA to drive to the plant and
have a casting made from their floor pan. This will take about five hours
after they arrive. They will be compensated by receiving a new set of
carpets and matching floor mats for their vehicle, after the mold is
completed. (These will be shipped to their address so they do not have to
make a second trip.) Can you ask your group if there is anyone in that
area who may be willing to do this? Thanks.
Best Regards,
Ron

Next week is probably premature.
He still have to post prices, and have 50 pre-paid orders before he will pay for the mold.
My guesstimate is the mold should happen 2-4week after prices are posted.
Thank for stepping forward, I'll keep you in mind for the TN site, however I doubt it will happen next week.

This is really great. I just have a few words about the carpet.
I have had mine out of my car to dynomat the floors. I think we need to make sure the new carpet under padding is not too thick. After I dynomated my car, I broke one of the seat belt covers because the carpet is higher off the floor. If the padding they use is very thick, the bolts covers and seat belt plastic covers won't snap on anymore.
Also, if for some reason this does not work out, does anyone know what the carpets in the WRX cars in Europe/Austrailia are like? If they are any better than ours, and the 4-dr really is no different than the 2-dr, maybe we can get someone to import a bunch of them directly from Subaru over there, like a group buy?
I would think they are better than over here, but I have no idea.

We have a volunteer, (and a back-up), from the SE forum.
The vendor is still waiting for prices, and colors from the manufacturer.
MadMax- Ok, I will start a new thread once prices are available, along with ordering details.
popnGEAR- Dalton, Georgia is in the south east above the state of Florida.
SubaFast- Still waiting for specifics, quality should be great, most automotive carpets are made in this area. I think he has been in business since the late 60's.
paultg- Good point, especially since we are talking plush.
*How thick was the dynamat you used?
I too also asked here about an overseas source for carpet a few weeks ago, there was no response. This is quality carpet so it will be as good as any other country's anyway.

I am not really sure how thick the sound proof stuff I used was. I got it from www.partsexpress.com, and I don't think it was very thick at all. I would just stress to the company to be cautious and try to keep the overall thickness close to what is already in the car. Hopefully they will see what I mean when they pull the stock carpet out, and see all the things that need to bolt/slide into place.
This is what I used:
and a link to the description:
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Product_ID=7082&CATID=35
I have another sheet somewhere that I did not use. If I get a chance I can go measure it.

MY02 is not part of the deal we are working on right now, nor has it been discussed with this vendor. I'm sure the same principle will apply when the demand exists:
"Guarantee 50 pre-paid orders, and provide a car for the mold".
It has been a 3 month quest to get to this point for MY93-01 carpet, and here we are still waiting...

As for better carpets from the U.K., Australia, they do indeed have options not available here in the states. Unfortunately you would have to spend about $10k to switch your steering wheel and pedals to the right side for the carpets to fit.
| Albert | 06-28-2001 03:42 PM |
Martin- This exert from a previous post probable would have been an option, but now we have our own.
===============
Anyone know if they have what we need in Australia. Although RHD, if an upgraded carpet is manufactured its 98% there, and they can easily toolup for the LHD market.

He did send me a plush carpet sample, and I must say it was a thrills to see and touch "real" automotive carpet.
Based on prices of other carpets he lists we should expect a comparative price of ~$250 +shipping for our plush carpet.
