Hallis 09-16-2006 07:17 PM

Now those are some sharp looking lights. You putting together any for sale now that youve got the process down?

drees 09-16-2006 07:37 PM

Looking very good! I doubt they'd be affordable if you were to charge a reasonable rate for you time put into them, even if you had the time to make them!
silent_rob_95 09-16-2006 08:04 PM

those are really sweet. my only thing is you should have used black instead of that gunmetal color ;)

but none the less awesome diy work!
taedaug 09-16-2006 08:06 PM

I bet that you could make money off of them. Just take them apart, again! (easier said than done) and find a company that'll make the molds for the housings. I KNOW that you could make money off of these. In fact, Put me down for 2 sets!!! ;)
danscoobywagon 09-16-2006 08:29 PM

wow. the headlights look sick. very impressive!! hope to see the finished project soon.

KAX 09-17-2006 03:30 PM

Those are the projectors that came with the cheap ebay lights... I am going to see how I like them over the next while.. I may end up putting in some Hella 90mm modules if I don't like the light output.
natoli4 09-17-2006 09:11 PM

cool...when can you get to work on mine now? I'd like the kogi mod though and silver bulbs...I'm sure the new kid won't mind. They sleep quite a bit right now don't they! Ha. Great work! Congrats!
designfate 09-17-2006 09:57 PM

+1 for producing them

id buy a set in flat back :)
Handsdown 09-17-2006 10:21 PM

those look clean as hell.

i've been having modder's version of writer's block with my retrofit, i have everything i need to start modding but i

1- don't have the time

2- can't figure out where in the hell to start

i have a set of those ebay twin beam housings, a set of modded black housing headlights with crappy "washed it when it was wet" crackles on the outer lens(would rather have another set) and some 06 projectors, plus all the wiring...

but i don't know a thing about fiberglass or anything and i think i'll just do a retrofit into the stock housings but with the projectors on the inside like yours. the hardest part will be finding/fitting a shroud. oh, i'm also going to try to retrofit the same highbeam lamp you have into the stock headlight along side the projector.

those beam pattern pics are a little hard to see, once you get the other side on go out and take some more!
TrialStyle 09-17-2006 11:18 PM

Wow, what you did was pretty amazing. I like the final outcome, good job dude.
pointofexit 09-18-2006 01:12 AM

Thanks for all the compliments everyone.. I'm happy with how they turned out..
designfate 10-14-2006 06:27 PM

ok so how much are you retailing them for? :D
japakazol 10-14-2006 06:37 PM

get a patent on them and sell them on Ebay! i'd pay $$$$$ for those!
E-Wrex 10-14-2006 08:38 PM

Those are fresh, make me want to do an 02 front end convo. I want to see some night pics of both the halos, I always thought they looked way fresh.
Enriched 10-18-2006 05:44 AM

now patent an retail!!
Samirr76 10-26-2006 02:53 PM

can you do some night shots with the beams aimed at a blank wall so we can see the exact cutoff? How does the light output compare to the stock bugeye headlights? Same? Better? Worse?

THANKS! :)

Awesome job BTW.
Arnie 10-26-2006 05:07 PM

Nice work, too bad you ruined it by using such crap optics. but I guess the only available angel eyes that are cheap is what you purchased. Should have went with Hella:

or if you are feeling really frisky bi-xenon:

Samirr76 10-26-2006 05:47 PM

^^^He did say that he was going to try out the ebay units and see how they work, and swap to 90mm Hella modules if he doesnt like them. No need to get pissy.
Arnie 10-26-2006 06:05 PM

not being pissy. I just see this tremendous amount of work, and damn fine work I might add, to make a nice set of headlights. And its a shame that its wasted because the optics he uses are crap. I've seen these optics in person and in use and their output is poor, even worse than the EDM/JDM optics (which are pretty horrible). I think with all this work, he should have rewarded himself with quality optics from the get go and not wasted his time.

I just got done retro-fitting the hella projectors from rallylights into a set of ebay lights I got for free from a friend........lighting is 100% better with actual cutoff!

I'm actually holding off to do the TSX HID projectors next spring. Just don't have the time right now.. and my wife will kill me if I spend more money on my car this year.

this is also a great way to go. saves tons o'cash over getting the new items. I'm sure you've seen folk who have retrofitted junkyard mercedes or bmw projectors.

seriously, very nice work there. Just get some optics worthy of your effort!
Edvig 10-27-2006 09:25 AM

I just came across this thread...omg...this is the best dyi mod I've ever seen. btw: You should send your process and pics to scoobymods.com.
Samirr76 11-07-2006 10:17 AM

good stuff....very tempted to pick up a set of ebay projectors for x-mas and then swap out to Hella optics when I have some extra money.
Twiztidunreal 11-12-2006 11:01 AM

i was thinking about getting those lights and just using the projector/halos retro into my 04 housing
WRX_tougue_squirrel 11-12-2006 12:24 PM

yummy

Get the hella modules instead.. you can get a set of the hella H9 low beam modules for under $200... MUCH better lighting than the ebay ones

Twiztidunreal 11-13-2006 05:38 PM

GetUpKid 11-30-2006 03:46 PM

can i get first DIBS on these when you eventually decide to sell your car? haha...but seriously. lol
brcewane 12-02-2006 10:09 PM

I'll be starting my own Carputer project soon too with a motorized touch screen poping up from under the clock pod and custom fiberglass case in the trunk.

I'll probably start a thread on it for progress as well :D

blowns2k 12-03-2006 11:14 PM

Looks awesome. Right on.
crashtke 12-23-2006 02:20 AM

So what are you driving impressions with these projectors after using them for a while? Did you ever re-fit different projectors? I wonder if they would be improved any with an upgraded harness with direct battery power as well as better wiring. I was curious what they might look like with decent power to them like in some of the threads that mention Danielsternlighting.com. Seems that these upgraded harnesses can handle more wattage and produce more light. Might be an option! From what I ahve read they are able to handle up to 120/100 bulbs. BTW I really comend you on a job well done. People are quick to bash, but you don't always have to pay retail brand name prices to get a decent product. Look at some of the SSautochrome TMIC threads that are around where they acutally are just as good if not better than the big name brands for a fraction of the price! Also as someone mentioned above I would love to see some beam pattern pictures against a wall!! Last question, were you still able to aim the headlights after all this?
Hallis 01-27-2007 01:03 PM

I say bump for one of my favorite DIY threads of all time. I have no skills so i just bought a set of JDM's with oem HID's.

This amazing DIY thread now needs to turn into the amazing "I'm going to be selling these" thread. I'm done modding stockers and love what you came up with. brcewane - you're an artist man, nice work.
