any chance for a more obscure looking version...
I mean If were to buy one I'd want it smooth and paint matched, not silver (I'm assuming) sharp plated and overly visible with more text.
correct me if I'm wrong but arn't most people removing the antenna in hopes of "cleaning up" the aparance of their wrx?
dont mean to put down your product just some suggestions to make it better... the speaker mount stuff and the OBDII relocator you guys sell are some good stuff

yeah i have to agree with twisted. i personaly would love to have a plate that matches the color of my car and that you would have to be looking for to notice it...
| twistedsymphony | 12-02-2003 02:57 PM |
hey could you guys make a little plastic part that reverses the way the center sun visor flips... so it flips down and out towards the window instead of down and in towards me.... because I'm short and that thing is just about useless for blocking the sun...
another usefull part would be a center gague pod that matched the interior but could easily fit din and a half with of stereo components.... lots of people make gague pods but the only one that can really fit stereo units is the OEM pod and it needs to be modified to fit 1 din units and even then it's a little small.

I agree...

... that if you could get a color matched version, or maybe anodized to get it close to the OEM paint, I'd buy one.
Maybe just anondized black, that would look good I think.

that thing is not a sun visor. its so you can use your maplights at night and still see in your rearview mirror.

Huh?
I'm pretty damn sure it's a sunvisor - just like on every other car that has such a feature.

I actually think the plastic with the antenna down is better looking than that thing

well...since my RS doesn't have a map light, and it does have the visor...:o
| IA Performance | 12-02-2003 06:14 PM |
the problem with color matching each plate is cost. Either painting or anodizing would drive them into the $30+ range. The way they sit they are clear coated aluminum. They offer a nice way to personalize the vehicle IMO, but everyone is entitled to their opinions.

The shop's car had the stocker shaved off completely. This was to the tune of $350 I believe. That is what drove the idea for affordable Antenna Plates :D

fwiw i would easily pay $30-40 for a black anodized one. Doesn't have to be color matched becasue my car is mbp anyway....
But if you say that there is no way you will be offering them in black, then i'll order one and see what i can get done locally....
Any chance of getting one without any engraving??
congrats on the vendor status
thanks.

kwyjibo- I shoud have an answer in black anodizing costs and chances of a blank plate within the next 12 hours or so. I'll post up the info.
I figured I've done enough 'behind the scenes' sales that I owed the boards some money :D 3 month trial membership, we shall see.

It's a map light visor. Ever wanted to read in the car as a kid? But your mom told you she couldn't see out the rear view if the light was on? Too much glare? Flip the visor down and glare disappears. It's pretty cool, I've used it a couple times.

I'd do a CF one in a minute...or black.
I have had good luck using black fingernail polish on small parts, like my foglight cover screws...rough 'em up a bit and apply 2 coats ;)

| IA Performance | 12-03-2003 01:49 AM |
Powered fuba antennas receive far better reception than the stocker plus have the visual side to boot. It took me a year to warm up to the fuba look before installing mine, if you see it in person you'd love it. Pictures only do so much.
| twistedsymphony | 12-03-2003 01:56 AM |
hmm I never knew that about the map light night glare remover thing... lol... my last two cars had a center sun visor that fliped out towards the window behind the mirror so I figured that's what it was.
just had a thought about the plates....
black anodized would be very cool... but how much is engraving... I think it would be WAY cooler if it was a blank plate that you could get your name engraved on.... you know like they put the drivers name near the window on any racing machines or jet fighters. so replace the impreza text with your name, if you can't do the engraving you could sell them blank and leave it to the buyer to get engraved.
I wouldn't buy one as is but if it was anodized black and I could put my name on it I'd buy one in a heartbeat... that would just be so cool:banana:

neat idea. Offer blank ones that the user can run down to their local mall to "things remembered" and have them engraved. Imagine the pranks you could pull on a friend by swapping out plates on him, hehe.
| Kwyjibo | 12-03-2003 04:53 AM |
I don't like the fuba look...and i really don't want to take out my headliner again, then drill a hole in the roof....
if you go to www.dakotadigital.com under the misc category they have an internal antenna....i ordered one, and am going to probably put it under the third brake light cover in the back, or just on the rear deck....
we put one in my buddies m3 after a stereo shop CUT his antenna by accident...in his dash, near all that metal he gets decent reception...

I have no intention currently of replacing my antenna, but I'd want an anodized version to match/nearly match the paint. The silver would stick out on my blue car.

How about a CF replica of the rubber mounts we have on now? I kinda like the stock antenna because it's completely retractable and within arms reach.
| Leonardo | 12-03-2003 08:49 PM |
Dude, have them make that plate in black cuz I'm getting that antenna!
Now, another option it to get the silver one, flip it arround and have it painted!
I'll just flip it arround as my car is silver and wouldn't be that obvious.

Which would be cheaper, anodizing, or color matched painting. I only ask because an anodized piece WILL fade quickly!
Maybe you could get a price for color matched plates since I'm sure there are a lot of us that would pay the extra $ for it to be done right.

The center visor is just that, a sun visor.. I'm not doubting it reduces glare at night, but it is even listed in the owners manual as a center mounted sun visor. Look for yourself...
| sonicblue | 12-05-2003 09:26 AM |
Vote for blank!! Definitely no engravings, just doesn't look good. As far as finish, I have some paintworldinc.com paint sitting around and I'd just paint it anyway, so whatever would make it cheapest to get from you.
| Sith_Lord | 12-05-2003 10:40 AM |
How does it seal to the pillar? I don't want it to start to rust. Oh, and I'd be in for a black one with no cheezy engravings.
| IA Performance | 12-05-2003 11:34 AM |
esh, so now the engraving is cheezy, thanx.
I emailed my builder to see about just doing some blank ones. They can be 'project plates' :D
The stock gasket is reused for the sealing process. The plates are dead on with them too.

Im in for a Black one...the engraving IMHO isnt all that bad, if it were white or silver and stuck out, it may not look the best on a mbp or wrb car, but if it were black on black it may add a lil character within close range, or WRX on it...if it is ordered just black blank, im still in :)
| twistedsymphony | 12-08-2003 12:05 PM |
yeah I'm voting for blank
black if you can
I figure if the factory antenna is black by making the cover black as well it doesn't change the looks from a distance, but still adds some nice detail up close
also by makeing it blank those who want it blank get it blank and those who want an engraving can get it engraved at the mall with whatever they want.
I personally want to get my name engraved in mine... I just think that'd be bad ass

k, I will have blank ones in about 10 days. I inquired as to anodizing and it was not suggested since they will fade from sun light. Powder coating was suggested as an alternative. I'm going to have some other parts powdercoated here pretty soon and may drag down some plates and see what they can do for me.

ok, just got back. In 2 weeks time we will offer satin (semi flat) smooth finish blank plates for the same price as the other current plates. THere was a choice between satin and gloss, I opted with satin since the gloss would really draw in some attention.
Forgot to mention, these will be powdercoated.
