Best sleeper wheels ? part 3

Spore 11-09-2005 05:51 AM

factory steelies with the plastic cover, rebadged into rs, remove the wing, and a soccer mom sticker

and if those things still wont work as a sleeper and cops still pull you over, get a trunk monkey and put him (or her) to sleep forever
gingertooth 11-09-2005 06:58 AM

i just got pulled over the other day for doing nothing wrong. not a thing. he did everything to find something to slam me with.
wrxzboost 11-09-2005 03:23 PM

i'm a teen with an 05 wrx with full catless exhaust and have never been pulled over in the 1 1/2 years of owning my car. not to mention aftermarket wheels, coilovers, sti scoop and splitters. maybe it has something to do with where you live.

Thanks for all the replies
Thanks for all the replies. It seems like this thread was brought back from the grave. I started this thread a while back to decide what to do with my Sti.

So an update, I have traded trunks and am now wingless. This is the only mod I have done so far. Wingless is the best, no attention from the cops and only the true sports car fans can tell what type of car I have. I have yet to de-badge and de-sticker but that will come later. I agree that the scoop is not that bad but it does obstruct my front winshield view a bit (but you get used to it fast)

My plans for the car are as follows: Injen phantom FMIC (or possibley TXS FMIC) with a black screen in front of it, RS hood, trade my sti sideskirts for wrx painted sideskirts, de-sticker, sti de-badge, and finally some rotas (most likely torques in hyper black). I also want to get some JDM pink springs to drop the car just a bit and increase handling. I'm going to leave the windows untinted and the headlights uncleared. I'll leave the brembro calipers gold. My goal is to have a sti that looks like a sporty RS.

These plans will take place way down the road because I cant afford the mods right now, but soon I will make it happen.

My only concern is turbo lag caused from swithching to a FMIC. Many people say it is pretty noticable and I honestly like the way the car currently drives with the TMIC (no lag, very responsive). Is the turbo lag really that bad or do most people just adjust to it? I probably wont do a turbo upgrade (mabey in the future) so I would mainly do the front mount just to loose the scoop. Any feedback?

Thanks,

Jay
you can spray paint your FMIC black. i have read studies that show painting it does not reduce its eficency. and just run your stock rims, get the silver ones or PAINT them black or something. DO NOT powdercoat your stock rims because this will weaken them

travis
i painted my turbo xs fmic black over a year ago and i have had no problems with anything. wen you do it just put alot of light coats on it and you should be fine.
Bad Dogg 11-11-2005 11:34 PM

Cobb CT-1 wheels. total sleeper action.
dude go for the konig theories, really tight n total sleeper
konig theories dont fit the sti.
spooledwrx, to answer your question, Hell yes the cops are onto what the wrx AND the sti are capable of. That's their buisness. WRB is known as "stop me blue"
TRUE. I collected 3 speeding tickets in my old blue WRX, merely by driving "with the traffic". Picked me out every time. I guess they figured out I had to be guilty at some point.

if anybody wants to trade me for and sti or wrx hood thats aspen white. im in socal and i have an 2005 rs.
iguanamafia 11-18-2005 09:34 AM

For wheels just swap with an 05/06 LGT

gee whiz, ya think?

Still all else above the wrx wagons are more inconspicuous than anything :D Behold one of the best sleepers, a station wagon, though the best sleeper goes to the late 80's dodge caravan with the 2.5l turbo in it. Behold that is the ultimate sleeper
Speed Racer 11-19-2005 08:34 AM

I would not suggest the RS hood. Isn't it made out of steel? Go carbon and paint it FTW.

My vote goes to OZ Chrono Evolutions.

I used Eastwood's radiator black on 2 alu radiators. It should work fine on I/C for under $10. Stay clear of all acrylic enamel paints--too thick retains heat and flakes off unless properly prep'd. Just clean/rinse the I/C with some vinegar ($1.) or alu etch, then rinse with water or brake cleaner. The Eastwood stuff is very thin, and sticks like a charm.

I often dream of doing the same, but couldn't warm up enough to the 06 STI. If only the evo RS had a 6 spd..

Debadge is cool, but leave the brakes and wheels unmollested. If you can't rid the side skirts and get to the TR look, why bother going to extremes. The wingless look less hoodscoop is just as good. Understated power. Just don't go nuts lowering the car, then all bets are off. The new JDM or Spec-C look is also pretty cool, if you can afford the wheels and roof scoop.
Uncle Scotty 01-24-2006 10:42 PM

....the '06 scoopless Impreza hoods are aluminum
Bonjo2 01-24-2006 11:07 PM

Nice. another reason to buy an 06.

I guess I had one too many scotch and sodas--didn't realize the post was dead.

IMO best sleeper........silver or grey sti with steelies, not sideskirts, stock axleback, worked motor, tune, plain rs interior, flat black front mount, no wing, badged as a 2.5 rs, no hoodscoop, stock ride height, black calipers, rwd conversion....4 the win! It'd be one ugly sob with those wheels and that interior, but if a total sleeper is needed for whatever stupid reason, then thats what it'd look like if it were a suby.....either that or swap a ts wagon with the version seven motor and tranny and a front mount and leave everything else completely stock...I think it'd be easier and much cheaper to just turbo a '92 saturn sedan and juice the hell out of it to make it run 12's....it's been done
ps99115 01-25-2006 03:52 PM

my plan
Here is my plan for my 05 psm sti: Injen phantom (flat black) front mount, rs hood, sell the BBS's and get some flat black rota torques (17's), wrx side skirts, greddy evo2 axel back or I may keep stock, de badge and de sticker, rebadge as 2.5rs, get jdm pink springs and top hats just to improve handling a bit (does not lower very much).

I have already swapped for a wingless trunk. This is just the exterior modifications I plan to do, engine mods are a whole other story :)

some people on here are saying add a carbon RS hood. ive looked for these many times and have yet to find one. where are people finding these if at all?
monzon 01-25-2006 08:04 PM

I think the best sleeper wheels for an otherwise debadged STi would be JDM V7's painted silver, assuming you painted the brakes grey or black.

but nevermind, they wouldn't fit on an 05 anyways...
