Best wagon rear lip? - post pics part 1

Best wagon rear lip? - post pics
I have searched around for a good looking, low profile, clean wagon rear lip for my bugeye. They are really hard to find since not a lot are offered from mfgr's, or they look really crazy. I have seen pics of the OEM JMD and I don't like it at all. Too busy like a Matrix.

It is also hard to search for a wagon rear lip on sites because the phrase "wagon rear lip" pulls up a lot of unrequested info. So don't say search noob, most of the threads are dead or the pics that were posted are just red X's.

I just wanted to see some member's cars with rear lips. The OEM 3 peice looks pretty good and I might go for that, but wanted to see a clean looking 1-piece rear lip that does not have to be modified to fit.

Does anyone have pics of the Dolphin rear lip installed? Web shots are crappy or just show the front.

Even post your 04+ pics if you think/know it will fit an 02/03. There are so many posts about this subject, but few pics.

I dont have a picture of the back but I think Liberal gets my vote for wagon specific Body parts

Liberal's is waay 2 big on the front. I just installed my LNR CF lip today and it is sitting low enough as it is. Very happy with it. www.lnronline.com

I am thinking more sleeper for the rear lip. Just a simple 1 peice.

Chargespeed had nada for the GGB.
MikalsWRX 04-02-2006 09:23 AM

Heres the liberal rear on mine. Some people like it and some dont.

Looks good!!!

prelude/2.5rs 04-04-2006 09:10 AM

I'd post a pic of my EDM/JDM rear lip, but you seem not to like the look. Oh well, to each his/her own. I do like the STi aprons though.

IMO, 02-03 tail light swap to 04-05 and same MY bumper so you can use this rear lip:

So which lip is that? Looks good. Similar to the Liberal.

I would need something bad to happen to the rear bumper to have to replace it. My car is in really good shape.

It's a genuine Subaru part.

my vote is for the sti rear apron

Again, not my car, but because of these pictures, i ordered some aprons from CVR and will post some pics once they go on my wagon.
johnnyb 04-04-2006 03:19 PM

Looks good, Wish they made it for the 02/03. I am thinking of going with the OEM 3 piece and modifying where it needs it.

Seriously, why did Subaru make the rear bumper so unfinished looking and not offer something good for the wagon?

I am looking for something like the Kaminari rear lip, but it just does not exist for the wagon.

Anyone out there have the 02/03 Dolphin kit?
Gr8wall 04-04-2006 04:07 PM

i too am interested in someting oem for the 02 rear wagons. that sucks. does anyone have a how to site for the oem 3 piece. i have seen pics of it before but none of those guys like to pm or anything with a how to.
johnnyb 04-04-2006 05:08 PM

Yeah, I would like to see some closeups of how the OEM 3 piece install looks from the underside. Just to see where to attach it, cut, trim etc.
johnnyb 04-05-2006 01:31 PM

Bump!!!
johnnyb 04-05-2006 07:24 PM

Any more out there?
johnnyb 04-07-2006 12:35 PM

Bump!!!

Easier than doing the front OEM sedan lip on the wagon. I have the rear OEM sedan lip for mine, haven't installed yet (why? because I am lazy;)), but did do a test fit and won't take much time to install really. I'd say get it and install it on your wagon. Here is a pic I have posted before, not mine, but will give ya an idea....maybe I will go install mine this weekend (gotta get motivated)!!

Personally, i prefer to be able to get over speed bumps without scraping the entire bottom of my car off...

No body kits for me, thank you.

Ryan314 04-07-2006 04:05 PM

IMO, rear lips look stupid in general, and even worse on wagons.
johnnyb 04-07-2006 04:12 PM

Yeah, like the OEM rear wagon bumper looks so much better. Do you even have a wagon.

If not, and you don't have a photo to submit, GTFO!!!
GC8drifter86 04-18-2006 08:54 PM

ive been contemplating whether to do the 02/03 sedan rear apron? you can get the parts for a decent price and you'd just need to middle piece modified. shouldnt be too much to get it modded. plus it looks the cleanest out of anything for 02/03 imo
johnnyb 04-18-2006 08:58 PM

True. I just want to get brakes before dropping any money on a rear lip.

As soon as SOA announces a USDM STI wagon = I PART OUT!!!!

The front is OK, but there are too many holes in the back. Audi-esque.

I've only seen one photo of the similar 02/03 JDM style kit. Anyone have pics? Only pics I have are on a .pdf file and are low res as hell.

Definitely better live photos.

There is a similar rounded 02/03 version, but with less holes.

Anyone have pics?
captain spaulding 04-18-2006 09:18 PM

has anyone attempted a 9-2x rear bumper on a rex yet?
johnnyb 04-18-2006 09:30 PM

Here's a pic of the front 02/03 bumper I am talking about. It's EDM and not JDM.

what would be the problem with this lip fitting? it would be the $h!t on our 02-03's. does anybody know what would have to be done to make it fit?

Eventually I'll probably just slap on an 06 sti diffuser with a cusco subframe brace and rock on!
WRXRallyBlue 04-18-2006 11:24 PM

JDM Apron
One more. You might be able to fit these and make them look good..

yea, i think i'm gonna go the diffuser route too. but like another member said, "the rear just looks unfinished" and i've been thinkin the same for a long time. i might see what the deal is with the 2 pc skirts for the rear. gruppe-s has a good deal on the sti replica skirts. i guess it's back to more searching.
WRXRallyBlue 04-18-2006 11:48 PM

Yeah, my hope with the diffuser is it'll "complete" the rear.

Edit: Maybe the sedan rear aprons above will fit around the diffuser? That'd be sweet.

I kind of like this one the best out of the 02/03's. I read the front and rear bumper were designed by someone at Porcshe.

Special side skirts too?

johnnyb 04-19-2006 01:00 PM

How was fitting the middle peice? Any issues?
elsanto 04-19-2006 01:06 PM

fits pretty good.. if you are uber anal about your car and having it show perfect then this isnt for you. there are some small gaps and what not that were filled in with weatherstripping.

i've had it on for close to 3 years with no issues.

i could see that kit being designed by porcshe. the openings on the bumpers have that porcshe look about them. it prolly looks alot better in person. are ya gonna go for it?
johnnyb 04-19-2006 07:59 PM

I really like that pic of the blue one, but would need to see some more pics of it in silver before I did anything. I just put on a CF front lip, so I have no plans to mess with the front.

Although, if someone wanted to trade me, I would do it in a second.

Check these out:

I'd love to swap bumpers, not too hot about the wing, but I'd do that, just to complete the package.

That last site has a bunch of rad Imprezas. STI wagons etc with good pics.

looks good man. so is it a 3 pc? also, what did you have to do to make it fit. i'm very interested in doing this to mine. do you have any pics of the middle piece?
elsanto 04-20-2006 10:08 AM

sorry no more pics. there are a few other guys who asked me about doing this.
I got the 3 peice replica kit from paul eukland. started fitting the kit myself got tired and ended up dropping it off at my body shop to have it painted and mounted they did a great job.
