You can have the wheels extend beyond the wheel well... why not get a 16x9 or 16x10? If you're going to go all out why not go all out?

Any info on that 16x8" option? That'd work pretty well for a 245/45-16 still.
I have 16x8 Volk Gram Lights with 245/45/16 tires. Honestly on a stock-geared WRX I'd use 235/40/17 on 17x8 rims just due to the big gearing advantage of them. I'm using an STi 6-speed. Nino from ninosautoaccessories has a deal right now to get 17x8 Enkei rims in Vendor Group Buy, and you can get them with 235/40/17 Ecsta v700s mounted.

A couple 16" x 8" wheel options:
Volk CE-28 (49mm offset) ~$355 ea
Advan RG (46mm offset) ~$375 ea

Tire diameters:
245/45-16 = 24.5"
245/40-17 = 24.5"
235/40-17 = 24.2"
At only .3" shorter, The 235's wouldn't give you all that much of a gearing advantage. This may or may not be an issue, but you'll have to run Kumho's if you go with 235's, as Hoosiers aren't available in that size.
