Perfect time of year to be in Canada. Interesting...
CamaroFS34 02-18-2006 05:26 PM

Toronto is a sweet place to visit, and it's half the distance to Topeka... hmmmmm..... ;)

Karen

Yeah, 10 hrs for me. :)

I know there are guys that come from CA to nats. Calendar is open that weekend.... written on the calendar. :)

Less than 9 hours for me. And that was when I drove my crusty, trusty '82 Ford Escort there and back.

I think an international road trip may be in order! ;)

Is there anything us Yankees can bring to be as obnoxious to the Canadians as Dennis Grant's hockey-stick-as-a-Canadian-flag-pole was supposed to be? ;)

Karen
KC 02-19-2006 06:09 PM

Copies of the Stanley Cup? (That is if a Canukistanian team doesn't win).

I think we can think of something. We have a lot of time to consider. :D
wrxkix 02-19-2006 07:34 PM

What is required to sign up if us USA SCCA types want to show up? Is there a membership fee, or do we just sign up for the event? Is this the Canadian equal to Topeka? Do they typically meet their limit of 200? Would a DS legal WRX still stay in DS in Canada by their points system?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am guessing about 13 hours from central Va, sure looks tempting.

Steve
Paul H 02-19-2006 07:50 PM

Steve, we have a web site up and running to help answer your questions. The site has been set up specifically for this event.

Go to www.autoslalom.ca and sign up.

There will be posts on things for the family and friends to do if they do for the weekend. Suggestions for accomodations and shortly links to local attractions. There will be rules posted up once they are released.

Paul H
101rs 02-19-2006 07:50 PM

I may be wrong, but i believe they allow SCCA memeber to run. I'll double check and let you know.

a SCCA DS would be legal in our DS.
in stock classes you have 2 points to play with. Things like sways bars, R-compound tires, and different sized rim are equal to one point each.

The 2006 rule set havn't been released yet, but as soon as they are they will be posted on http://www.autoslalom.ca forum.

We normally get about 100 people out to regional events out in Toronto, but so far we have seen alot of interest in this event from people around Canada. I think we will most likely reach the 200 limit.
JoeT 02-19-2006 08:03 PM

Hi All,

All SCCA Members don't have any additional fees, just show up with your club membership cars, and your SCCA membership card, and that's all there is to it. Pay the registration fees, and you're good to go.

Hope this helps.
KC 02-19-2006 08:34 PM

Sweet. Theres also an event that some here in new england go to at PEI/Slemon that weekend.... but Toronto is closer... and its on my calendar. :)

I'll wait to see the rules before asking what class. ;)
angryfist 02-19-2006 09:20 PM

i ran out there like 2 years ago. i believe my stx car was in ESP under their class rules. the point system is a little weird, almost like the car and driver series point system.

i'm less than 4 hours away so i'll probably be there :)
buster 02-20-2006 01:26 AM

SPDA is first class and runs amazing events. Many organizations could learn alot from these guys. You'll have a great time if you go for sure.

I know some of the guys come down to Topeka every year. And it looks like there's some that go up to Canada every year.

Is there room for an international auto-x event? Is this something in the making?

As for not coming back, why would anyone say that.. LOL ;) We welcome laying the smack down on smack talkers. But seriously, come on up it'll be a fun contest.

Anyways about an international challenge why not. We have an unofficial provincial challenge going on, just for you I changed the title to "Provincial / International Challenge"!

Click on this link to put in your 2 cents. If you guys want to form a team and go for "raw times" you're welcome to lay smack down on the poor humble Canadians.

I *still* don't see any rules tho. Just car classification.. preliminary at that. In another thread is a link to a different site with 2005 rules. (http://www.autoslalom.ca/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=8&forum=6)

I'm not trying to be difficult here, but when you say something is up... make a more direct link to it to make it easier on somone wherever possible.

So far, the 2006 rules haven't been published, or I *still* cannot find them.
KC 02-23-2006 02:51 PM

 In looking at the rules.. who stole from who as far as images go... cone placement, car lettering.. all the smae images!

Did SCCA copy from ASN or did ASN copy from SCCA?

Ok, looking at the 2005 rules, I'd still be fine in BS. Heck, I get to add a rear swaybar in stock (since I still have my stock front one).

Yeah, this could be fun.
JoeT 02-23-2006 03:55 PM

Correct,

The 2006 rules have not been sent out yet by the Canadian Autoslalom Committee, the only thing that's on the site is the "preliminary" car classifications. We'll be updating the site as soon as information arrives.

Thanks

Cool. There's a racetrack just north and east of there that's even much bigger!
JoeT 02-24-2006 11:44 AM

Yes, it's a horse race track... With nice soft dirt, and nicely groomed grass. You can go there after the event, and spend your hard earned dollars on the slots. We have a little bit of everything.

That place is called "Woodbine" race track, and the Queens Plate us run there. This is a real Queen, with crown and everything, as opposed to the other defination of Queen. We have those too, but it's downtown, at Church and Wellesly (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Depends on your taste of women.. :p

Actually the parking lots there, some are quite nice and smooth, but the others are questionable at best. They run events there, like the Canadian Carting Championships, but you'd have to resere it 2 years in advance. The RFP for this event wasn't even launched until December.
FantaSTIc4 02-25-2006 01:53 AM

Count me in...
I am interested in going to this event. If anyone else is from the Indiana area, let me know. I registered on their forum, so as soon as more details become available we can start making roadtrip plans. Only about eight hours from Fort Wayne!

Good on you for the great promotion. I wasn't really planning on competing in this year's Canadian Nationals, but now it's got me thinking. Any competitive DS WRX's that wouldn't mind a co-driver? :D

The webmaster for the site is a DS competitor... with a little positive motivation, I'm sure he'll more than consider a co driver....

There is a forum topic at the site for "co-drivers".

corey_dyck 05-25-2006 03:51 PM

I'll be there, but in a Miata in CSS. It'll be the red one with Manitoba plates, hopefully winning it's class. ;)
I might try out a rear sway bar on the car since its allowed in stock up there. :)
Careful, an SCCA Stock car is right at it's point limit. It's 1 point for each swaybar, 1 point for R-compound tires, and 1 point for any wheel size changes. You are allowed 2 points in Stock class. Oh, and the tires can't stick out further than the top of the fenders.
KC 05-25-2006 06:09 PM

Many have found that a bigger front bar isn't doing much for an RX8. I tried one, hated it. I have my stock one on. Some say they like one that's marinally stiffer... I say I can drive better than what that provides.

Wheels must be same size as standard in SCCA Stock... so no issue there. And have you ever seen tires on an RX8 in relation to the wheel well? I have at least an inch to spare in each one.

Just shocks (allowed), r-comps +1, and maybe a rear sway bar +1.

Dyno Truth or Dare!!

How about having some fun with a 2WD dyno. Now's your chance for some bragging rights.

Japanese Auto will be bringing their Dynapac Dyno to the CAC this year. At the venue, they will be providing tuning information as well as live dyno sessions. The Dynapac Dyno is complete with A/F readings so you can check the state of tune for your car.

There is a slight charge to dyno your car, but it's also your chance to confirm what you've been feeling.

Bring a group of friends, and play Dyno truth or dare!
Make your best guess as what the readings might come out as, and if you get within 5 hp, of the actual plot, earn extra discounts.

Thanks to http://www.japanese-auto.com for supporting the CAC and the motorsports community.

Aren't the 98s the DOHC engines? Is there anything different between them and the SOHCs?
