Chicklet! Chicklet! - RALLY MEXICO starts March 9! part 2

Weasel 555 03-09-2007 12:11 PM

damn thos C4's are close behind ........just hope Petter keeps haulin butt
WRXedUSA 03-09-2007 12:24 PM

Yeah, Ken rolled it.

If Travis can stay steady and avoid punctures, he will be OK.

I'm kinda shocked that they were unfamiliar with LFB.
XenoWolf 03-09-2007 12:27 PM

Pastrana 7th (-58s) in GN/PCWRC after SS2.
John Vanos 03-09-2007 12:34 PM

I think they meant they had to LFB MORE not start LFB'ing...they need to keep the turbo spooled even more than ever given the lower power of the GN car and the altitude

thats how I understood it anyway

Correct, as usual, John.

"After trying that aggresive LFB technique I improved my times by several seconds, so I guess it works! My teammate Ken Block and I were both comparing and discussing what style of driving is best in these conditions and I think we definately got the hang of it. But we'll see, it's a big learning process."

"That's a style of driving that I'm not very used to right now because the Subaru I use in the USA has way more power"
Weasel 555 03-09-2007 02:18 PM

Petter Solberg started the third stage of the morning with a six second advantage over Sebastien Loeb and extended his advantage pulling another 1.6s over his Citroen rival with his third straight stage win in the new WRC2007.

Loeb, very much enjoying the handling of the C4 on its first gravel event, was second fastest overall, extending his advantage over team-mate Dani Sordo who moves up in the standings ahead of Chris Atkinson in the second Subaru.

Rally Norway winner Mikko Hirvonen was fourth fastest in his BP Ford Focus just a tenth of a second slower than Sordo and three-tenths quicker than team-mate and Championship leader Marcus Gronholm. Manfred Stohl was sixth fastest in his OMV Citroen Xsara, retaining his seventh position overall in the standings.

Chris Atkinson was seventh fastest on this stage in the second Subaru Impreza but maintains his third position in the overall standings ahead of Sordo, Gronholm and Hirvonen. "We need to tidy things up and stop the car moving and things will be better," the Australian explained.

Jean Marie Latvala was eighth fastest in his Stobart Focus and remains in a potential points paying position in eighth overall just behind Manfred Stohl's OMV machine.

BP Ford may have dominated last time out in the snow of Norway, but already Gronholm and Hirvonen are sliding close to half a minute behind rally leader Petter Solberg.

The team head for service ahead of SS4, a re-run of the first stage of the day, which gets underway at 13.02 local time.

As per swrt.com, Solberg and Atkinson are nowhere to be listed in the standings for SS4. I hope this is because their results aren't posted yet.

well he needs to speed up because they won't be dividing the times by 7 at the end of the day
XenoWolf 03-09-2007 02:41 PM

Loeb edges Petter on SS4 by 2.8s

:furious:

Hirvonen passes Gronholm.
RALLYT-WRX 03-09-2007 02:43 PM

Damn Loeb!

At least Petter's still leading overall.
Chromer 03-09-2007 02:45 PM

Loeb is the master of the second-run stages, unfortunately.
Apparently someone threw a rock at Loeb's car this morning, breaking the windshield on the codriver's side.

Pastrana reports a couple "moments" on SS1 & 2 and a big spin on SS2.

Things like that seem to happen a lot during Rally Mexico. Wasn't there people putting rocks on the stages last year?

People like that should be ejected from the event for the entire weekend. Dunno how possible that is in a sport like rally, but ... damn.

Impossible.

You're going to scour hundreds of kilometers of stages just to find them? Sure, you could boot them out of a specific spectator area, but that won't stop them from coming back somewhere else.

If marshalls happen to see them do it, hold them & call the federales... Criminal endangerment.

Travis going well after lunch, faster than Arai on SS4!

Ruts on the loose areas and tire wear on the hard areas.

My GUESS would be that the ALS isnt as helpful here either as there is less air to combust to spool the turbo

I'm not up on Mexican law, but I doubt that marshalls have the power to 'hold' anyone. I doubt this happened anywhere near a marshalled location anyways.

Seb is two seconds behind Petter now after SS5. :(

Petter loses his engine (no oil) before Stage 6....You've got to be kidding me.

Looks like he'll be starting Day 2 ten minutes behind.

That's from a few years ago, I think it was Petter's way of describing the handling of his car with a broken MOOS in one tire, if I recall correctly. :) But yeah, he has to go postal at some point. Let's hope it's in the car and he takes out his frustrations on the stage instead of running over the team principal coming into service or something.

EDIT: oh man, I didn't see jay911 post in time
chimchimm5 03-09-2007 05:42 PM

From WRC.com:
Subaru World Rally Team's Petter Solberg has had a very dramatic rally. Though he never commanded the rally, he did lead from the first stage onward, but an oil loss problem on the road section to the sixth stage saw the number 7 car stop, unable to continue. The team has not inspected the cause of the oil loss, and at this moment, it is unknown if the former world champion will continue the rally during leg two.

As a result, the stage winner, Sebastien Loeb, now inherits the overall rally lead. Loeb completed the stage in nine minutes 37.5 seconds, 2.2 seconds quicker than Mikko Hirvonen and Dani Sordo, who posted joint-second fastest times.
Petter's going postal. That's it.
Jay911 03-09-2007 05:47 PM
Petter's going postal. That's it.
Maybe we should change the question from "When will Petter climb the podium?" to "When will Petter climb a clock tower?"
Weasel 555 03-09-2007 05:54 PM

tis a shame , he just has "0" luck
HeyChris 03-09-2007 06:55 PM

He was really really excited on the new car.... Perhaps they skimped a bit, and gave him an old motor?.... =(

Petter's Luck strikes again. :furious:

Dunno where they're getting their stuff, but I usually follow on Rally Radio (off the WRC.com site) and get live split times/stage times on WRC+ (for-pay service on WRC.com).

Hah! Nice video, very cool. I was surprised that more spectators didn't rush in right away as Henning rolled. Maybe it's a Mexico thing.

I'm wondering if this is another Mexico thing: In the segment with Petter, I heard Phil call out at least two 9's and an 8 in describing the degree of a turn. I'm pretty sure I've never heard him call out anything above a six before. Am I just not paying attention, or is this something particular to the Mexican stages/notes?

What would a 9 be anyway? Kinda like a flick of the wheel and that's it..
shemoves 03-10-2007 02:28 AM

bjorn...

how cool is it to be part of a full-on WRC race?
r.o.b 03-10-2007 09:02 AM

party foul on the idiots throwing rocks at the cars. Last thing rally needs is retarded spectators. Rally Mexico is a provisional rally for 2008 or 9 i believe. **** like this will definately make it almost impossible to get the rally

other rally spectators in different countries dont seem to have the need to throw rocks

this is a big black spot on rally new mexico. Its the closest us will get to a rally and to see it disapear would suck
