Cool! :D
BriDrive 04-08-2004 01:10 PM

According to the latest news I've been able to find, there will be a total of 4 Prodrive 550 Maranellos racing in GTS this year at LeMans......I wonder if the two Barron Connor Ferrari 575 GTC's will edge out any of the Prodrive built cars. If any of you want to see these cars run in anger here stateside, try to get out to Road Atlanta for the Petit LeMans this year. I promise you, if you have not seen and heard and smelled these Ferraris running full pop from about 20 feet ( in some places at Road Atlanta) you DO NOT KNOW what you are missing....Absolutely Brilliant.....

jmott 04-08-2004 01:38 PM

are the corvettes running again this year?
BriDrive 04-08-2004 01:42 PM

YES, both at LeMans and Petit LeMans...full schedule ALMS
Patrick L 04-08-2004 03:14 PM

I hope they Ferrari teams make it 2 in a row at Le Mans.

Coach 04-21-2004 08:30 AM

I guess Kox is getting ready for his biathlon. 24 hours of racing, then into the water for 24 hours of surfing.:p

Whats up with the wetsuit?

I went to Sebring last month and there is nothing like seeing and hearing a 550/575 going down the back stretch at 150+. Seriously, it was a thing of beauty.
AndyRoo 04-21-2004 10:10 AM

they are so pretty, i saw the olive garden 550 at the National GP in Wash DC.

I remember watching part of Le Mans last year on tv.

No one would believe me that it was 24 hours long...and that i could have watched the whole thing.

BriDrive 06-07-2004 09:46 AM

Looks like the "Entire" GTS class will be composed of:

x2 Barron Connor 575 Maranellos
x2 ProDrive 550 Maranellos
x1 Larbre Competizione 550 Maranello
x2 C5R Corvettes

I will pull for ProDrive #66: Kox/Enge/Menu

Reliability IS the 24 Hours.............
I also Can't Wait !!!

Nice to see McNish back behind the wheel of an Audi :D
artkevin 06-08-2004 12:53 PM

Great pics. That rear diffuser is sick!
DrBiggly 06-08-2004 03:02 PM

Does anyone know how much of it will be shown on SPEED this year? I know a while back they actually showed the entire 24 hours but later discontinued that practice. :(
Patrick L 06-08-2004 03:57 PM

I'm going to be out of town and will miss the race on TV. Can someone tape it for me? Yes, I know that means 12 tapes ;)
TV3WRX 06-10-2004 11:24 PM

Prodrive Pole for Enge in GTS
Wow, Tomas Enge took the pole from the Vette for Prodrive Ferrari, in the last few minutes of the session. That must have been a sick lap. The Vette had been considerably faster in both sessions. Looks like it'll be another great battle in GTS.

:)
Patrick L 06-11-2004 12:58 AM

Wow, talk about a tight qualifiing.
GTS
1) ENGE T./KOX P./MENU A. /FERRARI 550 / 3:49.438
2) GAVIN O./BERETTA O./MAGNUSSEN J. /CORVETTE C5-R / 3:49.750
3) FELLOWS R./OCONNELL J./PAPIS M. /CORVETTE C5-R / 3:51.378
4) McRAE C./RYDELL R./TURNER D. /FERRARI 550 / 3:51.755

The 575's off the pace. Aren't they a factory team?

Actually, they are not.
The 575 MaranelloGT is a purpose built factory built car that teams may purchase to race. Its important as Ferrari has not offered a "race only" car for Le Mans such as this since the 333SP.

Even the 333SP (an LMP type) was sold as is to teams, who then further refine, develop and setup......

They also have introduced the 360 GT (C3) along the same lines, however, the ONLY factory race cars run by FerrariSpa (ScuderiaFerrari)are driven currently by Schumacher,Barichello and the test teams.

I still have high hopes for them as this is their first season of development.

By the Way
The 24 hrs of Nurburgring is also this weekend. Qualifying (night session) is going on right now. Boris Said is driving the M3GTR with Hans Stuck. Should be fun to switch back and forth between Le Mans and Ring live timing feeds. Lots of cool cars running at the Ring that you don't normally get to follow: S2000's, MR2 turbo, Opel, etc. Biggest field in motorsports.

Timing: http://adac.24h-rennen.de Click LIVEBOX
TimStevens 06-11-2004 06:35 PM

Ach, das Webcam ist gut!
TV3WRX 06-11-2004 09:40 PM

Ja, den Webbencammen sind sehr gut.
Next to the webcam buttons, click on Slideshow, from within the live timing box, then keep clicking the pic to get to the next one. Some really cool pics in there of unusual race cars in there. Older 90's Saab, old VW Gti, Seat Ibiza, others. A couple of good pics of Boris in there too, hamming it up for the cam. Fun stuff.
z3coupe 06-12-2004 05:56 AM

1) will tThe 24 hrs of Nurburgring be televised somewhere on Direct TV?

2) anyone else tired of just seeing Audi's??? I really miss the 1999 Le Mans with a whole slew of cars that could have won! Toyota, BMW, Audi, Mercedes . . . . . . now we have to look at the lower classed cars for excitement. Heck, no MG or Bentley either this year???? And do I miss the coupes! I have always preferred the enclosed cockpit cars over the open ones.

3) would have expected at least one Lotus Elise or Exige :(
zoomfactor 06-12-2004 01:59 PM

I've been listening to the live web radio feed (MS Media Player only:rolleyes: )

Try try this...

bring on the blue
Anyone else watching the Speed coverage think that Aqua Velva commercial is about the lamest thing ever? I think it escaped from the 80's...
TimStevens 06-12-2004 02:45 PM

Whoops, looks like McRae just blew it...
Patrick L 06-12-2004 04:01 PM

His car is 8 laps down. What happened? I was out autocrossing today at a divisional and just got back.

I see the class leading C5 of GAVIN O./BERETTA O./MAGNUSSEN J. is 1:54 ahead of the ENGE T./KOX P./MENU A. 550.
TimStevens 06-12-2004 04:03 PM

He spun it at the end of mulsanne and then fried the clutch getting it back on course. They had to replace it, which took a long time. Apparently he was running as quickly as his teammates, though.
Patrick L 06-12-2004 04:08 PM

BTW, Kox, Enge, Menu Prodrive ferrari just knocked off 2 sec in the last few minutes and is faster then the lead C5 each lap.
bemani 06-12-2004 04:10 PM

WTH, only the Vette has an in-car camera?
TimStevens 06-12-2004 04:22 PM

What's wrong with that?

Actually the Vette's apparently the most popular car out there amongst the French spectators, surprisingly.
Patrick L 06-12-2004 04:45 PM

#63 Vette of Fellows just crashed but got going but it looks bad and the pase car is out.
This race is long from over.
TimStevens 06-12-2004 04:48 PM

Jeez, gotta quit watching this thread, I'm 5 mins or so behind thanks to my DVR :o
Predwolf 06-12-2004 04:54 PM

haha...Profanity on Live T.V ;)..made me laugh...the announcers sounded like they were gonna laugh :D

*goes back to watching*

I was listening to that and was like, "did he say what I think he did?"...and then heard them apologize and yep...yep he did.
Predwolf 06-12-2004 05:25 PM

Hahah, Yeap.

I was eating, and I managed to chew RIGHT when he said it. I had the same response as you.

and then we find out that nobody had infact hit him from behind, he was just binded by the dust. :D..
Predwolf 06-12-2004 05:29 PM

Hmm..Anybody have the stats on the Porsche GT3's?

What HP and TQ are they running?

If you watch the replay in slow-motion there is a third car there that goes by just when the car swerves toward the Vette. You can't see the car, but you can see the lights.
Predwolf 06-12-2004 05:38 PM

Really? I saw that replay...but focused on him after he went off, and the announcers said something along the lines of "maybe he wasn't hit by anybody afterall.."

Hmm...
TimStevens 06-12-2004 05:44 PM

Yeah, I heard that too which is what made me rewind. You can definitely see the lights zoom by on the right at just the right time to hit him, can't see the actual impact, though.
Predwolf 06-12-2004 05:48 PM

Ahhh.

Your brave to rewind :D I'm not stoping the tape. :)
TimStevens 06-12-2004 05:59 PM

Oh, I have a DVR. I'm constantly rewinding and pausing and fast-forwarding through the commercials :)
Predwolf 06-12-2004 06:03 PM

Lucky :o:banana:
TimStevens 06-12-2004 06:16 PM

Thank you Time Warner :)
Predwolf 06-12-2004 06:23 PM

:O That onboard for the whole lap with Colin Mcrae....*drool*..

WE NEED MORE ONBOARD FOOTAGE!!!!!!!!

I love Lemans, but I agree about the LMP Audis.....kinda sick of them. The problem is that it is so expensive to do an LMP1 program, that nobody else wants to do it, or sponsor it. There is talk that the LMP formula maybe revised soon to bring in some new cars and teams; they are in a similar situation to F1, costs are a huge problem. GTS on the other hand is going to get hot in the next two years. Porsche will race the new CGT supercar in GTS starting in 06, 05 if we are lucky. Lambo may be in there, too.

As for the Lotus, (the Elise is my favorite track car ever!), there is no class it would be competitive in right now without some serious rules allowances and a bigger engine. The GT class Porsche GT3RSR's run at 2100lbs and have about 400 to 450 hp naturally aspirated (flat 6 3.8 ltr). That's a pretty tough setup to beat. The Elise can be raced at sub-1800lb weight, but it'd need around 340 to 360 hp to be competitive in the class. They could use another motor or turbo but it would require major rules politics. The old Elise GT1 from a few years ago was V8, and a piece of crap.

There are 2 Elises running in the Nurburgring 24, check the link to see. Grand Am Cup SGS or GS would be a great place for the Elise to run without major rules changes.
