Any chance of getting underside pics of how you mounted it? Also I assume its the same material as "version 1"?
Thanks, looking forward to putting this on my White Subie also.
Yeah it's the same material as 'v1' just using different type of screws, and i used nuts to hold it to the lip and the screws as support under deforming or scraping times..and zipties in the middle..

it's stayed on there for what... 8 months now? something close to if not longer. didn't use any screws or nails, just adhesive.
 i tried that last night with the same tape and it fell off after only two minutes. tape stuck to the car but not to the lip. anyway i'm gonna try again tonight w/ 3m and screws this time

I'm stoked now...will be trying this out with my 03 wagon very soon. I have really wanted a front lip, but I get close enough to curbs that a $350 accident was just waiting to happen, especially after installing the coilovers.

i wonder if there'd be a clean way of doing the diy lip with the stock sti front bumper. There's that gap there, any ideas without having it curve up to follow those lines?
| druxboyz | 01-02-2007 12:12 PM |
you'll probably have to make a little diy thing to fill the gap if you want your diy lip to be straight. Figuring out what that 'thing' will be is the hard part.

still working on a clean light method for filling the divot front bumpers..ply or MDF would work and could be shaped, then fiberglassed or CF'd over to fill it...

For what it's worth, I remember seeing a metal "cover" for the bare stock license plate area. I know Perrin makes a "license plate delete" part, but these were ones with an STi or a WRX logo on them. Maybe just a Subaru logo, too.

no. and it looks easy, but fitment on a lip like that is key - it's perfectly molded to sit underneath the stock contours whereas other lips that ignore that area only have to worry about width and air dam support. my $.02

it might be a mixture of double sided tape and screws, maybe not. 01G_WRX has used superglue inbetween the doublesided tape layer and the lip so that it adheres to lip better. I did mine that route and it works great. Of course, you cant take the tape off the lip after you superglue it, but you can still take the lip off the car because that side needs ONLY tape (no superglue) to stick to the bumper. I've driven almost 100mph in it a few times and it stays put. Its pretty damn strong. Saves you from cutting small holes in your bumper. Saves time. Saves you 4 bucks for nuts/bolts :) and it works.
| druxboyz | 04-09-2007 09:00 AM |
oh, and also, when you use the double sided tape. dont cut it into sections, use one full roll of tape. You dont want to see gaps in between the bumper/lip. thats because the tape is partially visible depending on where you stick it.

ok bringing this thread back.
i finally made my diy lip to work with the sti side strakes so i figured i'd share it with everyone. i was a little rushed last night putting it on so its not quite perfectly aligned, but you get the idea.
i used the $10 home depot garage sealer along with a front air deflector from a buick le sabre that i cut up to act as a filler between the sti lips. i then used the left over pieces from the cut to make a level mounting surface betwen the filler and the sides so the rubber would be level all around.
so without further adeu, here are the pics. let me know wht you think.

its just a factory air deflector off a buick. it has a lazy v shape to it kinda like this /__ and is held on by one big bolt in the middle and two screws with washers on the side. the leveler peices are just held on with 3m tape. mine is not perfectly flush with the bumper as i lacked good shaping tools when i made it but the gaps are far enough up and back that they can't be seen.
hope this helps

i went to home depot and checked out the hard nail on rubber.,but it was shiny and wasn't flush. It was very uneven and had "pimples" everywhere. I got the soft one instead. Will it work or was the hard rubber one just a bad batch?

for those 04-05 owner with sti splitters who wanna have something to fill in the middle...i have a piece off a seibon v-limited replica lip that will fit in there nicely...i broke the lip itself but the middle piece survive...so it is for sale

Just a note. Now that its warmed up outside, I noticed that my lip is sagging a bit in between screws. Hopefully this can be remedied by more screws, but I may have to remove it and put another "summer" lip and stretch it out a little more.
Oh, the lip has survived plowing my parking lot, a few steep driveways, as well as the occasional roadkill.

did mine on sun. looks good, but there are still a few spots the washers make the rubber stick out a bit...but for $13 with hardware, it looks pretty decent

Wanted to thank you guys for this great idea. There is no lip i really like for my car but have always like the v-limited look. I gave this a shot on my tsx and it came out really well I think. I'm really lookin for a harder material solution but this gives me a great idea of the concept.

^^ Fantastic
I really hated the look of the new TSX facelifts, but if they all came like that, i'd definately be liking them again.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. I used the Frost King Garage Door Bottom Seal which I bought at home depot. It comes in a 9' roll thats 2.25" wide. :)
