DC Gumball 3000 Rally car to be given away thru HIN
DC Shoes and HIN are giving away the Subaru STI that Rob Dyrdek and Big Black drove in the 2005 Gumball 3000 Rally. Below is the official press release.

More detailed car specs and photos at:

This DC Shoes Subaru WRX STi was last seen out-running a Porsche at 180 mph piloted by pro skateboarder Rob Dyrdek and his personal DC Shoes bodyguard Big Black at the 2005 Gumball 3000 Rally. Now, you can be the STis next driverand owner!

3,000 miles in eight days across eight countries make the Gumball 3000 impressive. Its the parties every night that make it legendary. Now DC Shoes and Action Media (the creators of Hot Import Nights (HIN) and HINCity) want to give one lucky winner the ultimate drive all day party all night prize package. HIN enthusiasts have a chance to become the next owner of Rob Dyrdeks personal Gumball 3000 DC Shoes STi, and win the VIP treatment for the ultimate party scene at all 2007 HIN shows (including pre-party and after-party). We will also save a spot for you on the show floor at select events so you can show-off your new ride.

Visit the HINCity website, www.hincity.com, to enter so that you can drive all day and party all night courtesy of HIN and DC Shoes. In addition to free admission for you and a guest to every HIN event and pre and after-party, youll receive backstage passes and VIP access to every HIN concert, plus be a guest judge in the Queen of the Scene search for Miss HIN 2008. *Just like the Gumballers, experience all the mayhem of models, music and cars. And this time, keep the car.

The mods done to the Gumball 3000 DC Shoes Subaru, now valued at more than $65,000 take this street car closer to the level of a true rally car without sacrificing comfort and daily drivability. The unique camouflage graphics wrapped with custom DC Shoes logos will make the winner of this ride look like a pro rally driver. Interior modifications include an on-board GPS, TV screen and DVD player and the dashboard has a custom iPod cradle. Vermont SportsCar handled the modifications---they're not a tuner shop, but a race team that hand-builds rally spec race cars. The DC Shoes Subaru is a street/daily- driver version of their competition rally cars, which they've built for the likes of Travis Pastrana.

In addition to upgrades that improve endurance, the car has handling and engine upgrades. A stock Subaru WRX STi puts out 300hp; The DC Shoes Subaru now puts 425 hp and has reached speeds of 180 mph.

Just like all great parties, enter early before the line and paparazzi show up. *The sweepstakes starts August 1st and ends at midnight on October 31st, 2006. *For Official Rules and Regulations and to enter the contest go to - http://www.hincity.com/gumballcar.

Gas off the lip...it helps keep the front end up. It doesn't always work perfectly as I would like...especially in that tight space where the timing was critical.

Sometimes I do try popping the hand brake to drop the nose if necessary (just like an MX bike). We munched a lot of front bumpers on that jump...too small of space and it was really important to get the inside line on that corner afterwards.

RichardM 08-12-2006 10:18 PM

Just not quite as tight as Colin tried eh?
KBlock 08-12-2006 11:33 PM
Just not quite as tight as Colin tried eh?
Yep...there's a fine line between landing smooth on the transition and making the corner clean...or, the big bounce from coming up short. The little bounce was fine on the first part of his run...the second run was just too much for that tire to take.

Great incident though...we couldn't have scripted it if we tried!

mofugga 08-12-2006 11:42 PM

what? why no 2.5rs listed in the "car you drive" section? i had to enter i drive a lowly impreza

-KB
I know and the two guys also entered who could have done that ending if scripted, didn't. Tanner and Rhys are stunt drivers who know how to roll a car when the director says so. Colin is good enough to select first gear while upside down so when and if the car lands on its wheels, he can go. But Colin hasn't practiced turning a car upside down on purpose.
mesa50w 08-13-2006 01:26 AM

+1 for KB/ DC
Have always been doing good things for people. They used to help us out alot with local skate contests back in the day.

And now giving away STi with a S2 in it....thats some good karma
PURE EPI 08-13-2006 07:52 PM

Is that car even geared for 180 mph? even from the factory, shouldn't be more than I would think 150 max.

Can anyone elaborate as to the ratio top speed for the STi, drag and HP not withstanding?
KBlock 08-13-2006 08:01 PM

Well...I chased down a Porsche going that fast and I have a photo of the odo to prove it (sort of). The photo is in the DC site (linked above). The photo shows 165+ (the odo only goes to 160), but the Porsche driver told us later that he was going 175 and we were slowly pulling away from him.

This happened on a beautiful, brand new (and very empty) Croatian freeway.

Fun...but very scary in that aerodynamic-as-a-brick 4 door sedan! :)

-KB
STI_SLC 08-13-2006 08:02 PM

well its electronically limited to 158mph from the factory.. any program takes that off.
i had my stock ecu 06 to a touch over 150 the other day with plenty of pull and rpms waiting to be had.. even on stock power and a catback, it got up there quickly from 100.
maybe you'll win it and be able to find out?

good luck.

eviltuna7 08-13-2006 11:09 PM

the sti is gear limited to around 170-175. the problem is the sti speedo is fast by 3-4mph so its hard to tell how fast your truly going.
eyeballs 08-13-2006 11:17 PM

wow, by far the best contest I have entered so far. I would love to have that car.

with a ECUTEK flash...you can "get rid of" the top speed limiter....simply by checkiing a box in the ECUTEK software..;)
..

needs bigger tires ....like at least 245's or 275's..;)

New snowboarding product from us?...yes, the double BOA. It's on our highest end boot that comes out here within a couple of weeks. Two BOA reels to tighten the upper and lower parts of the boot separately. Best boot technology that I have ridden in a long time.

Rhys' camo car...no comment. I have already vented about that on a different forum...

The car will be at the LA event this weekend
I forgot to mention...the car goes on display at the HIN show this weekend in Los Angeles. It's now on their tour and goes to the rest of the shows this year till it is given away.

There is a special deal on tickets too, compliments of DC and HIN. Use the promo code "DCSHOES" (no space between DC and SHOES) when you buy the tickets online and save $5.00.

Where can I get some Gumball stickers? We're driving 30 hours straight from Windsor to Edmonton with 3-4 drivers and I thought it would be hilarious if we Gumballized our car. Trans-Canada Gumball Run. Once I graduate, Gumball is the first thing on my list.

So I am sitting here at work and one of my co-workers comes up to me and asks what I know about some DC Shoes raffle and if it is legit. So I say "How come?" And he says "becuase someone just called my buddy and told him to stick around tommorow so they can deliver his car!"

Apparently the winner drives a pick-up truck, has no interest in racing or Subarus, and only entered because he owns a bunch of DC shoes.

I am hoping he scares himself with it and then sells it to me for cheap....

Not to worry, Uber Wagon. I've known the winner since the day I was born, and you've got some bad info on your details there.

He grew up driving Subarus, Subarus have been some of his favorite cars from the beginning, and although he does own a truck, he's always been into cars, the faster the better. It just didn't make sense to own one at the time be bought his truck.

A WRX has been on his wish list for a while, so this tricked-out STI is a dream come true.

He's a fan of racing, but probably not to the degree of many people on this forum.

He is into DC shoes, and his snowboard boots are DCs, so that much was pretty close to right on.

So there you have it. A good winner for certain.
