Great write up. I don't what's cooler, the vent or that you had Patrick Stump from Fallout Boy help with the install.

Woo Hoo! Finished in 7 hours from, took my sweet time, reading everyones' instruction over and over again. No F-ups. Started to Rain, will take pics tomorrow...
It actually clears my Yakima Racks by like 1/8", i took it off for now, but would be interesting to see the effects of having a Yakima Fairing in front of the vent opening, in 2 weeks when i put it back on.

Hit the shopping cart icon and choose from the drop-down menu; once you've gone through and chosen your delivery area you can either checkout ( which generates an order ) or: save the estimation and buy later
(51E) White is "Aspen White" and a "Can Do"
http://www.brandsports.com/by_make.php?make=Subaru&Submit2=Go
This link verifies (51E) as Aspen White for the USA model

since you're in japan (i assume) can you interpret the warning label on the inside of the vent? something about 80km...??
i do notice above 85 mph, the vent is a bit hard to close.. he he!
thanks
it took me 7 hours total, one person, i tried using Dremel, but it took too long, then tried Rotozip, but broke 2 bits, finally went with jig saw with metal blade.
Was not hard at all, just take your time, measure, measure and measure again.
on a separate note:
i don't think i needed it to drill out the old map light metal bracket, seems like the new vent metal bracket would acturally mount to it. anyhow i took it off already.

Does the OEM map light wiring connect to the auto dimming rear view mirrors with map lights or is there some electrical work involved with the connectors? The roof vent looks pretty nice but I want to keep map lights in the mix if at all possible before considering this mod.

As for the seal, its really tight, been thru one thunderstorm, and one DIY car wash with high pressure spray, not a drop came in.
Never missed the map light, never used it much before anyways, might go to pepboys and pick up some qhettofabricer color neon/led for interior illumination ;-)

You're not suppose to operate, ie. open or close, the vent at speeds faster than 80km/h. I believe the reason is because it puts a lot of stress of the roof sheet metal.

Like has been said in the previous posts, don't *open* it at over 80km/hr.
You can have it open already at speeds higher than that, but if you tried to "pop it open" it could deform, or pull off the roof from "snapping" open.

Yup.. i noticed that.
if i had it opened when i floor it, i'll just have to leave it open/close until i drop below 50 to close/open again.

Dude, you need to lighten up. It was a joke. Not sure if you read the rest of the reply, but there was punctuation and grammer used correctly.
The air vent is "very" functional. The faster you go, the more wind you will get. I had a tear outta my right eye from the wind on the highway. I imagine on a roadcourse with a helmet on, it wouldn't be an issue, and would have a nice "cooling" effect. ;)
