I can't believe there isn't a thread yet. I would like to have this one kind of a roll call too. I know me, Stu, JoD and several others are in. Who else?

AH, U.S. Grand prix
One day I'll be able to make it.
In the mean time, boo max Mosely and Bernie ecclestone for me.
Also, make cool signs pointing out stupid rules. (execpt switching back to slicks next year)
Yes, I'm jealous.

I'm leaving in the morning. Going to the pit walkabout on Thursday, and then we plan to see artkevin downtown at the Hyatt.

Sweet grandpa! I'll see you there for sure.
Ferg, where you been? You seem to have been quite for awhile. You're scaring me.

I'll be the crazy girl with the Finnish flag painted on her face (every day) running at the start of the pit walkabout to camp out in front of McLaren for 4 hours. :D
Wish you were coming Ferg. I'd glady throw something at JT for ya, but I think Kevin's got better odds with his seats on Sunday.

Where is everyone's seats? I'm in Section C, anyone ever sat there?

In a couple of times that I visited Indy, I got seated ticket only ones. First time. After that I enjoyed general admission finding myself a spot around Turn 3/Turn 4/Turn 5. I like it the best.

You'll probably see me running one way or another during the weekend. I am going to a Red Bull party Friday night and a GP Tours Kiss and Make Up event on Saturday while trying to do 2 or 3 other things other then my own show at the Hyatt. Late nights I am going to try to hit up the Chatterbox. Its a cool little jazz place a little north of down town and I am sure I will have to eat some point too. Maybe the Druken Monkey on Saturday night. :disco:

It's too late to buy a parking pass from IMS. Anyone have a suggestion?

| f1vlad | 06-27-2006 04:31 PM |
Matt, do you have a race day ticket? If you do on track parking is automatically included. I was surprised to find out many people don't know it and pay $80 per day parking.
If you have General Admissions, that won't work as your parking, only if you have a race day seated ticket.

I thought that was only for the Car Corral. I couldn't get one of those passes because I bought my tickets off eBay. Got any more info?

I don't think it matters where ticket was purchased.
If I understand correctly, you're entering car's club from the rear of the track. I don't know what street it is.
But with my racing day ticket I could park Thr-Fri-Sat-Sun for FREE entering via main entrance off of Georgetown Rd, see map here:

On this map see "G6", it's Gate 6, that's where I was entering. I suggest you do this too.

No I am describing the entrance on opposite side of the track, not car corral. Go there with your racing ticket they'll let you in trust me, that is what I did, laterfound out many people like me wtih racing ticket didn't know about that. Worse thing they'll turn you back at the gate.

American Scott Speed says it doesn't matter to him one way or the other if F1 is popular in the US as he prepares for his home Grand Prix this weekend at Indianapolis. Speed is the first American driver in F1 since Michael Andretti in 1993.
"It would be great if F1 became more popular in America, but personally, for me it doesn't matter," Speed told the BBC. "It's not something that puts more pressure on me. I'm in F1 because I know it's the pinnacle of motor sport. I know that it's the top and it's been my ream since I was a kid in karting."
Here's a go:
1. M.Schumacher
2. K.Raikkonen
3. F.Alonso
4. F.Massa
5. J.Montoya
6. G.Fisichella
7. D.Coulthard
8. M.Webber
I mixed it up a bit in the front three. Of course I'd like to see Kimi win, and this race he has a good chance, especially if McLaren have advanced their car like they seem to have. But I think Michael has this race pretty much locked down. Alonso will put up a good fight, no matter what though. Sign of a true champion.

Have fun everyone who is going. Take lots of pics. Hope it is a good race and not like last year. I was there last year, that is why I went to Montreal this year. I will probably go back to Indy next year providing there is an Indy next year and everything goes smooth this weekend.

I will be in Indy tomorrow, I will try to get pics of the Renault pits, as I will be a guest of Elf. Last year at Montreal I could not take pics inside the garage but I will try to get some of the hospitality area.

Wish I was going... I haven't been since the 1st one, 2000... 'course I gotta fly from the left coast... wish I could just hop in a car and get there!
Canada and Silverstone showed me that Ferrari have the car to compete with Renault... but Bridgestone did not bring a tire that could compete w/Michelin @ Canada (Michael was ~.3 or .4 secs off per lap)... Same or similar Bridgestones will be @ Indy... I'm thinking they won't work again...

Fernando - Kimi may have the pace, but the McLaren's speed fades over race distance
Kimi - He may lead, but his pace will fade, and Fernando wants to win
Michael - If the Bridgestones work, then he'll win... But I'm guessing they won't, as was Canada
Giancarlo - Juan may be here, but I'm guessing Juan makes a mistake
Juan - In seasons past, Juan was fighting for championships... since Monaco '05, his performance is an erratic down-hill slide
Felipe - Bridgestones put him behind Juan and Giancarlo
Jacques - Indy rewards aggressive driving, and BMW turned quick times at Montreal
Nick - Coulthard, or Webber, or Trulli could have been here, but BMW were quicker at Montreal, and drivers can pass each other (read slow Toyotas) on the straight
Excellent interview with Jean Todt in the AutoSport.com Journal this week discussing what went wrong at Canada for Ferrari... Ferrari could not get the Bridgestones to work... The soft compound did not work at all, and the hard compounds were difficult (couldn't get enough heat), and not competitive...
At Indy, ambient temps are predicted to be warm, mid to high 80s, and the long, long, high speed, front straight (WOT from the exit of turn 11 to turn 1) puts much heat in the tires (which is what caused the Michelins to fail spectacularly last year). Nonetheless, I think that Michelin again have a better tire, as they had in Canada, vs. Bridgestone.
I hope my speculation is wrong, and that the Bridgestones are equal to the Michelins. That would provide a lovely heads up dog fight for the win 'tween Michael, Fernando, and Kimi. If Bridgestones are equal to Michelins @ Indy, Michael will win. :p :)

My first visit to Indy, four years ago, included sleeping in my car, and it was overall the best experiences ever. Back then I couldn't afford anything but pay for gas and race ticket.
That same summer, met some dedicated fans from Colombia who flew to US and couldn't afford hotel, so they just slept on the street near Indy.

Does anyone want to do me a big favor? Can someone buy me the blue and black Kimi hat from the Mercedes Mclaren stand? I'll paypal you the money for it and shipping. I wanted to buy it last weekend in montreal but I didn't have any cash with me when I wanted it. Pm me or email me if you're there or going to be their and wouldn't mind.
