Finally in, 06 diffuser part 4

ranger5oh 08-27-2005 08:24 PM

F.. i think I may be ordering one of these!
ZLODEY 08-28-2005 03:45 AM

There was a stupid topic move... but this is most important for now I guess. We need to see these brackets :)

STi-MAN 08-29-2005 09:36 PM

OK cusco now makes a bracket for installation of the underbody diffuser, its in the group buy section, but its way over priced rite now, so there is no need to drill.

ranger5oh 08-29-2005 11:04 PM

I bet that bracket costs more than the diffuser.
singletrack 08-29-2005 11:25 PM

Looks like a sweet way to add weight.

Sweet. It looks like the diffuser will fit a GC8. I may have to get one of these now but I'll drill over spending the money for the cusco brackets.

WRX Ver.7 08-29-2005 11:30 PM

All this touble over 4 holes to be drilled into a car. Actually just 2 holes to be drilled and then 2 screws to be inserted. Oh well.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the bracket. If you're also talking about the bracket being plastic, that's pretty idiotic way to mount it. It looks pretty metal to me though.

Cusco is actually calling the bar a lower arm brace. It just happens to have additional bracketry to mount the OEM diffuser.

I'm sure it can't weigh much more than their front lower arm bar, which is about as much as a large crap ;), so the whole weight comment is pretty lame.
THAWA 08-30-2005 01:54 AM

I wasn't defending or argueing against the weight, so there was no reason to quote me...

The whole damned thing....all told, would weigh under 5 pounds

That's great, why are you telling me? You should be telling this to singletrack, as he was the one that brought up the weight comment. If you'd like to argue about the plastic/metal comment then yes you would be correct to quote me.
99subi 08-30-2005 03:00 AM

that came fast
99subi 08-30-2005 03:02 AM

i want one for my L
ZLODEY 08-30-2005 03:05 AM

But look, bolt which goes in the middle of the diffuser will not be used, right? Only 2 in the front and 2 in the back.
Still need to see a picture with removed diffuser and order OEM bracket or do it myself....
singletrack 08-30-2005 11:13 AM
The whole damned thing....all told, would weigh under 5 pounds
...and how much do a few screws weigh? ; ) Jeez, people get so pissy when I point out that I *personally* don't think that something is a nice solution (or a good value for that matter). Can I be entitled to an opinion? k thx
I wasn't defending or argueing against the weight, so there was no reason to quote me...
Take it easy ;) , I just quoted your message because you specifically mentioned the bar. My sarcasm about the weight wasn't towards anyone in particular, just that line of reasoning. :D

Anyone figure out where that cross brace mounts? Does it go under the sway mounts, up into the cross member???

.....jesus....buncha pansies in this thread.

I'm done....and, REALLY......this damned diffuser is about as complicated as wiping your collective asses.....good god

coolblue05 09-19-2005 10:41 AM

I cancelled my order on one from the dealer and ordered the cusco unit. I would rather pay a little extra and not have to drill holes and have a rear lower bar to boot. Now I can go back to stock if I have to very easily. My 2c.

I just got mine. I dont have either of the brackets, just the diffuser. Gonna put it on my '95. Im doing some test fitting, and its a little difficult without the bumper bracket, so i'm going to recommend everyone who wants one to order that as well.

help for what?

all the info you need is in this thread.
akinasdevil 09-20-2005 09:59 AM

I think they still want someone to unbolt it from the underside of an 06 and see what it looks like. I'm just going to weld on 3 homemade brackets to the underside when i get mine, can't be too difficult. Just make sure you line everything up right.

Just Finished The Install on My GC8...

The install wasn't too bad and I second getting the rear bracket (it made the install so much easier).

Kostamojen 09-20-2005 01:19 PM

Do you have a pick from under the car at an angle? I cant quite tell where that bracket locates the diffuser in comparison to the bumper.
jimbobrand 09-20-2005 02:04 PM

I don't have one but I'll see if I can take one this afternoon.
-Jim
BVM 09-20-2005 03:43 PM

I just got mine today. Will be installing it tomorrow. I held it up to the underside to see if it would clear my Helix exhaust... clears by a good bit. Post pics tomorrow during my oil change, JUN eyebrow and STi diffuser install.
Now if only my SR30/injectors/fuel pump would get here!

Still have to adjust it a bit... but here it is. BTW, it sucks to do this by yourself.

I feel your pain I did mine by myself too. I had to use duct tape to hold the diffuser in place then used wadded up strips of duct tape to hold the bolts in while putting the nuts on.
-Jim
BVM 09-21-2005 06:02 PM

LOL I didnt get to put the spacers on, have to wait for a friend to stop by and put them to work!
Still have to adjust it a bit... but here it is. BTW, it sucks to do this by yourself.
Ya, I had to get a little help with someone holding the bolts from inside the trunk whole I got the nuts + washers up on from the bottom... Very annoying.

BTW, I realize now that the GC bumper in the rear sits a little lower cause of the licence plate area, which might partially block the diffuser visually.
OrlandoSTi 09-21-2005 11:46 PM

Hey ya'll...... Finally equipped my 05 STi with the rear diffuser, as well. Wouldn't really recommend getting the factory bolts as they seemed a little too short, especially if you drilled into the trunk like me. I used 3 bolts and some nuts/washers inside the trunk and the install came out pretty good. Fits great with my TurboXS Turboback..... Great little upgrade for performance and looks..... :)

Side note....... Isn't it odd how the diffuser doesn't cover the entire rear underbody area ? The exhaust takes up the driver's side, but the passenger side still has open area for drag issues..... Oh well, justa thought.... :p

Actually, after seeing it, I think it might fit on ALL subarus since like 90... Perhaps even other cars too. You can just modify the plastic a little if you need to change the shape to fit.

Mine is on a little tighter to the spare tire well than that... Thats probably the difference and why mine is slightly harder to see from behind. I ordered the stock bracket after finding out how cheap it was... Ill install it next week when it comes in.
jimbobrand 09-23-2005 01:40 PM

Yeah I didn't notice that it wasn't flush untill I took the pics but I think that may have happened when I redrilled the holes to get it even. I'm going to try and make it a little tighter to the body later today or tomorrow.

Kostamojen 09-30-2005 07:06 PM

FYI, I just installed the bracket (not the Cusco one, the OEM one for the front bolts)

It sits more like yours does now jimbobrand. Its a bit lower, but its definatly alot more solid. Definatly use that bracket to install it.

For pics check the last few pages.

Subie Gal sells the entire kit on her site Subarugenuineparts.com for just under $70 or if you're asking about just the rear bracket I think it's $12-$13.
