Finally in, 06 diffuser part 5

ZLODEY 10-02-2005 03:18 AM
FYI, I just installed the bracket (not the Cusco one, the OEM one for the front bolts)
You mean these 3 brackets as on the picture, right? Where did you got them? Maybe you know original part number?
typer_126 10-02-2005 03:24 AM
You mean these 3 brackets as on the picture, right? Where did you got them? Maybe you know original part number?
 That's an '06 in the picture with the Cusco brace, the three brackets come with the car!
ZLODEY 10-02-2005 05:26 AM

Perfect, but do you see what Kostamojen wrote?
I just installed the bracket (not the Cusco one, the OEM

You mean these 3 brackets as on the picture, right? Where did you got them? Maybe you know original part number?
No, Kostamojen is talking about the thin black rear bracket that is under the bumper support that also comes in Subie gals kit the rest of the holes were drilled. The car in the pic is a 06 WRX or STI that comes with the other brackets already welded on.

ZLODEY 10-02-2005 11:50 AM

Then I would say it's the rear one, for the rear 2 bolts :D I have OEM diffuser from www.japanparts.com and know that it comes together with rear bracket.
Anyway it would be very nice to find what is original part number for these brackets. It's 15 minutes job to weld them, it has 3 fixing points in the front and 2 in the rear (CUSCO has only 2 in the front) ... plus most important it will look like stock!
BIGSKYWRX 10-03-2005 09:36 AM

There wil be no part #'s for these brackets- they are welded on at the factory. The best you could hope for IMO is someone fabbing them up and selling them- or providing exact dimensions so someone else could fab them
ZLODEY 10-03-2005 10:41 AM

Every part has its own part number, even such as this. The fact that it is factory welded doesn't change anything. Or you think you should replace whole underbody part if let's say one of the brackets damaged? ;)
BIGSKYWRX 10-03-2005 03:07 PM

It's possible, but many welded pieces are included w/ other pieces and not sold on their own.

Either way I would think w/ the right measurments they would be relatively easy to fab.

Hit Jamie up w/ a email or pm- if their is a part # she can track it down, she has the full 06 parts manual.
Hit Jamie up w/ a email or pm- if their is a part # she can track it down, she has the full 06 parts manual.
I asked for this already couple of times on this forum and none help :( But I will try to find out it myself and post the correct part number here ...

BTW sorry, who is "Jamie"? :) What is the full user name for PM?

Jamie is Subie Gal who runs SubaruGenuineParts.com

You might be better off buying the Cusco bar and bracket since you can get them seperate from the diffuser. Welding isn't going to be any better for your car's trunk pan than drilling holes, both can lead to rust.
-Jim
kunfuzion 10-03-2005 05:57 PM

it should come with the 06 sti spare tire/trunk floor. but thats more work than necessary just to install the diffuser. but if you really want to have everything oem, have fun.
92XJET 10-03-2005 10:00 PM

Will this fit a 05 wagon with no modifications? Thanks
jimbobrand 10-03-2005 10:42 PM

It should fit a wagon with no modifications if you buy the Cusco kit otherwise you will have to drill 4 holes but that isn't that bad and saves you over $100.

has it been confirmed that the cusco kit will fit a wagon??
has it been confirmed that the cusco kit will fit a wagon??
As far as I have heard this is not confirmed, only thought to be the case that it will fit.
Bishop 10-03-2005 11:07 PM

ok thx.
ZLODEY 10-04-2005 02:19 AM
You might be better off buying the Cusco bar and bracket since you can get them separate from the diffuser.
Do you know who is selling CUSCO bar and bracket w/o OEM plastic diffuser?
jimbobrand 10-04-2005 08:32 AM

Call or email the guys at www.Z1auto.com they say they can get the bars without the diffuser in the group buy and for sale threads.
-Jim
ZLODEY 10-04-2005 12:22 PM

as of right now we are not selling them separately (c) Z-1 Performance, Inc.
jimbobrand 10-04-2005 04:58 PM

Wierd, they said on RS25.com that they are  .

Forgive me for not diligently reading each post in this thread, but has anyone yet posted a write-up as to how to go about this install in an 04-05?
BIGSKYWRX 10-14-2005 10:08 PM

Jamie pm'd you :)

Write up info is in the thread- cliff not version- get the rear bracket along w/ the diffuser this will make for a oe like mounting in the rear. The front you have to drill 2 or three holes (into the spare well area) or get the rear brackets (three of them) and have them welded in.

i know it's a long shot.

can anyone post a pic of the diffuser on an 04 wagon w/a borla hush exhaust??
what's the cost on those?
3 x 500JPY
BIGSKYWRX 10-27-2005 02:55 PM

Would a template help from an 06 so a guy tacks them into the correct spot or is it easy to see exactly where they go?

I don't think you'd need much of a weld for the brackets- just a couple of quick tacks- could probably get some of the spray on rubber stuff to shoot over them as well.
typer_126 10-27-2005 03:57 PM

That's a job for JB Weld, if ever there was one.
Ride Operator 10-27-2005 04:41 PM

I concur, bring on the metal epoxy! :disco:
drees 10-27-2005 05:05 PM

Yeah, use the 2 part JB weld, should do the trick.
CGM_WRX 10-28-2005 12:10 AM

The heck with JB Weld, I would just screw them in place.
nathansvt 11-08-2005 02:51 PM
Side note....... Isn't it odd how the diffuser doesn't cover the entire rear underbody area ? The exhaust takes up the driver's side, but the passenger side still has open area for drag issues..... Oh well, justa thought.... :p
On my car (with an admittedly non-stock exhaust) there's room to fit two of the diffusers side by side. Of course, then you've got a potentially strange looking situation with 2/3 of the rear covered and the exhaust area open.

Would it be worth doing 2?
Psydotek 11-16-2005 08:12 PM

Subscribe! ;)
pleue 11-16-2005 10:07 PM

I just mounted my 06 I got from someone hesitant to put holes in the trunk. Mounted up good and tight, almost too tight against the sway bar on the passenger side. All in all, about 45 minutes of work with careful measuring and a friend at the end to put nuts on the bolts as I passed them through the spare tire well. BTW 2002 wagon, prodrive oval tip exhaust.
BIGSKYWRX 11-16-2005 10:18 PM

Anyone use the three bracket pieces to mount?
akinasdevil 11-17-2005 02:48 AM

I have some on order, should hopefully get them in 2-3 weeks. Should be a relatively easy install.
Ride Operator 11-17-2005 12:36 PM

BigSky, I have some plates on order as well. Looks like we'll have a few installs with the bracket and plates in the next month or so... I guess all of the plates are arriving on the same boat.

vtecTHIS 12-02-2005 12:24 AM

anyone put it on a wagon yet??
juiced_vette99 12-02-2005 01:00 AM

i do understand the concept behind this little piece of plastic and it's "functionality", but to me it's a waste of money and it looks cheap. not only is it too small to make any difference in the world from a visual perspective and also regarding its sole purpose. if i were to put on a diffuser, i'd make sure it's something that's noticeable and not some piece of JDM plastic that needs to be finished on your own. page 13 here we come.

the "functionality" of this piece comes from smoothing out and evenly diffusing air from the underbody of the car, there for creating more down force. But if you dont like it, you dont like it, to each his/her own.

see my post a few posts above yours. as for size etc, I was hesitant at first but do enjoy the subtle look as opposed to a kansai type diffuser. I think that would definately be too much on the smooth lines of a wagon specifically.

I don't know, it doesn't look as complete as other cars I have seen, it seems like it isn't very integrated to me.
