First look--APR 2006 STI Widebody kit part 3
Hey Pure, saw you at Wawa the other day, nice RS.
oh really? which one  I go to them all!! you should've honked!! :D OBS need to stick together!
i have a question...regarding this... how are you guys doing with your carbon resources? you mention a mix of glass and carbon, I know for the longest time, there has been a shortage of the material no matter what the weave. Maybe just the places I normally go to, I know that with all the ramped up military and aerospace projects the "little guys" get the scraps it seems! :(

Christian
Thats why we do not have a hood yet. Expecting it in the next week or two. Dam carbon shortage.
As for why people don't make the WRC body kits, most likely a cost factor. those kits are not cheap. Just to develop takes a lot of time and money. There's a vendor on here that has been working forever to bring their 22B kit for the GC to market. I still don't think it's happened yet. Reinforced plastics are always labor intensive. I suppose you could do polyurethane or metal, but the tooling costs are something to be considered too.

but I agree. if you build it, (inexpensively) they will come. Someone help me out here, but the rear sections are more of a problem as well due to fact the fenders are part of the body structure. and you have to cut/shape remove them prior to installation??

Man, I wish I could do that... wouldn't have to worry about rubbing fenders anymore! :D

Thats not a BODYKit FYI, That is the actual rally car during testing...
carbon FX 07-08-2006 01:18 AM

I think wrc still is a bodykit, they just don't sell it to public, only for their rally team.

Like this one the best, very subtle and clean.
pio!pio! 07-08-2006 01:56 AM

well the bodykit per se is not a bolt on
because the intercooler and radiator are in such radically different locations compared to stock, the bodykit will not just easily bolt on to a regular impreza

I think I remmeber someone buying the WRC parts for the bugeye or peanut eye and it was a pain in the ass.
PURE EPI 07-08-2006 04:36 PM
I think wrc still is a bodykit, they just don't sell it to public, only for their rally team.
True. the 22B coupe was designed to emulate the WRC version of the car. the chassis actually wouldn't fit through the normal Impreza assmb. line! the WRC class rules in 97 allowed for more flexibility in car prep for manufacturers (don't know exact rules but in general) you could add a turbo, 4WD etc. and also change the suspension geometry. Widening it of course ment blistering the fenders. the ensueing sexyness was just a natural side effect ;)

But the fact still remains that the kits/mods to the bodywork, unless done on a scale to decrease unit cost and/or done in a low-labor cost setting (ie. out of country) they remain really expensive. the original 22B fenders I saw listed for about 20K dollars for all 4 corners. Yikes...

I think AeroSym is the company trying to make the kit... though I saw 4Star in Canada had a similar kit.

Christian

oh and yes... I've had way too many Thickburgers here lately! :p
I think wrc still is a bodykit, they just don't sell it to public, only for their rally team.
BTW most of their bodywork is done in carbon/Kevlar to reduce the weight in certain areas. (nice to spend it if you have it!!) I think in 2005 the rules stated you could make your fenders (front) out of straight plastic. the front fascia has to be over 8k bucks. my little brother and I pulled one and other bits out of the trash at STPR a few years ago... LOTS of high-count carbon craftsmanship was fantastic. (sigh) maybe some day... :)
SatanasoSTI 07-09-2006 01:43 PM

The front looks boring like stock :(

i was referring only to the front bumper, but i know somobody made the replica of the rally wrc front bumper so life is good

2.9.1: Bodywork
2.9.1.1: Standard body appearance must be strictly maintained. Standard body appearance is considered to include the OE grille and badge. A photographic replica is not sufficient. In addition to the main grille, if the car has a distinct grille below the bumper it shall also be used. Teams choosing not to utilize the OE grille opening for airflow may mount a close-out panel behind the grille. Stock OE spoilers and wings are not permitted. OE side skirts may be used if they were available on the car from the dealer, provided they meet the minimum ride height rule. Aftermarket side skirts may be used provided that they meet the min. ride height, have no openings/ducts in them other than for jacking insert(s), are no wider than the approved fascias, do not extend any higher than the bottom of the door and do not reinforce the chassis.

Want to see some subies kickin it!?!?
David Glasscock 07-11-2006 03:38 AM

looks great, just curious but what off set are you going to run to fit 275 or 305 in the fenders and are they going to be 9.5 or 10 inch wide.. cant wait to see the final result might be buying me some new parts....:)

For Gary and Marshall. You guys doing any testing before Laguna or are you not alllowed to?

We will be testing at Laguna for the Laguna ALMS/SPEED finale, we're now on 305's, still working with Arceo on the final wheel/offest #'s, and as for my setup, I'll only know what it will end up at once we've successfully tested. From there, after the race, It'll be markedly different as always...

As for the widebody kit and bumper, we'll be putting "Typre-R" badges and cute little "Ultraman" cartoon characters on it so it looks like a wack street car, and not a proper racing car. Aren't races judged on looks, after all?
parker/slc/gc8fan 07-12-2006 04:13 PM

Ultraman = win.

No it's not, Rally cars are born with stickers all over them, didn't you know that. That's how they make the fastar speedz in the dirtz.

As far as the body kit goes, it's awesome, looks great.

Here'e an '06 rendering done by my man Adrian Gonzalez--it will also serve as the image on the back of our long overdue ESX/Sheehan/SPEED GT T-Shirts.

Rally_wgn 07-24-2006 11:48 PM

Nice! I can only hope Forza 2 has the '06 bodystyle so I can add this car to my collection.

Cant wait to see Gary at Birmingham and the new car at Laguna Seca, MPME has Arceo come through with the fat wheels to go with the wide body?

Word. We hope to have the Arceo's for Laguna, but if not, we have our "Volk-ceo's" ready and waiting.

The car will also feature the 2006 ESX single stripe scheme to match the image.

Woops... found my answer:
The SPEED GT STI is headed to APR right away for the new kit to be installed. Jaime is working on stripping the front of the car, and modifying the '05 radiator mounts/location to accept the '06 profile.

It looks like it will be a nice looking car.

Now if only Speed Channel would pull their heads out and pan the camera once in awhile to give you some tv coverage.

I'm gettin f'n tired of seeing that damn Cadillac all the time.

Thanks, but more than being shown favor by SPEED, we need to get the funds to do the testing to show well in the race to deserve being shown favor.

Being a front-runner is one heck of a tonic to have the cameras follow you... ;-)

without a doubt... being up front helps... but Speed could at least do a once over of all the cars during pre-race.

Honestly... I've watched a few Speed GT races, and they really only show the top 5 or so cars. Even NASCAR at least shows the whole field once in awhile.

I end up not watching it... which drops their viewers, which drops their sponsorship, which raises the costs for teams like yours. Your sponsors deserve to at least get a 3 second shot on TV.
TurboRX 07-25-2006 11:13 PM

I agree, I mean, it should mean something that you guys are there and competing. Its not like NASCAR or GAC where the field is enormous, there really aren't that many cars to show.
Cloaked 07-26-2006 12:39 AM

Hey Gary you guys take that widebody and show those guys(GT) that the STi is for real.

Just a heads up....rumor has it there will be an EVO at Laguna this year too.

[[emailprotected]]It is possible to run the Laguna World Challenge race, but we will only do so if our homolgated car has the speed to run midpack or better, as it does nothing for our sponsors having the car sit on the last row of the grid, as the Subaru and Skyline did at the LBGP. Stay tuned.
I believe I know the team (a local one). They should do OK--they've run a tLaguna with the car about a hundred times. It makes super power, uses the same turbo, and has been developed a ton.

As for the ESX STi, unless $25K is found soon, the race is off for us.

Sorry to hear that :( .

I believe they are local to you guys....and it would be really nice to see an EVO/STi/Skyline battle in Speed WC, regardless of whether it's mid pack or in the back. Hope everything works out.

Could it be Kent Jordan and the Muellerized team?

And I thought you skipped Infineon so you could make Laguna for sure, what happened with that plan?
