Need Confirmation: Indiglo Gauges for MY98 Impreza L
Hi Guys
I'm thinking about picking up the Indigo Gauges for my MY98 Impreza L from www.procarparts.com (heres the info)
Product: 97+ SUBARU IMPREZA 5COLOR INDIGLO GAUGES
SKU: IMZA-RS5CLR-IG
Description:
97-2001 IMPREZA INDIGLO GAUGE SET-INCLUDES GENERATION2 5-STAGE DIGITAL INVERTER- BLUE/LIGHT BLUE/BLUEGREEN/GREEN/VIOLET - 120MPH top speed
I've been seeing several posts here that these do NOT fit the MY98 cluster? Is this true? Has anyone acually INSTALLED Indiglo Gauges on a MY98 Impreza? If so, which ones?
Thanks a bunch!

I have the initialK indiglo set, and it's a little bit off. The ODO window is just a little bit low, but it's close enough for me. You can still read it fine, there's just a black strip on the bottom.

Got em in the mail a week ago from intial K and I just need to install them. The needle is going to be the same color. They look pretty good though.

Those gauges look horrible in my opinion. Those colors look like they were taken from frootloops.

Nighttime lights look pretty sweet...daytime white faces I could do without.
I have the indiglo's for the GC8, and they look ten times better, too bad I broke my needles putting them in. Whatever you do, don't take those needles off!!

white-faced indiglo guages on ebay
I saw the whitefaced indiglo gauges on ebay for a sell price of around $65. Try a search on ebay

there have been quite a few people saying that those are crap- at least if their from www.procarparts.com, the fit isn't right and the cel is a symbol and somewhat obscures the actual light

Indiglo dash install
I bought one of those $50.00 Indiglo dash kits on e-bay which arrived promptly priority mail, a few days after paying through paypal.
The install was pretty straightforward. Removing the cluster is 6 screws, and the whole cluster can basically be snapped apart. The only fiddly part is getting the indiglo face plates on properly without taking the needles off. Also: as I learned the hard way, be very carefull touching the face plates. You'll leave big greasy fingerprints on them... I had to take my dash apart again to get some off. I did have to do some trimming to the cluster housing to get the plates to seat properly and line up with the original.
The controller is a little cheesy but does the works it's intended to do. There's a few indigle colors to choose from and you can also dim the display. There's a seperate control module that needs to be hidden under the dash somewhere. All in all the mod prob took me about an hour.
I like the look, both during the day and at night. I think it's well worth the $50.00 I spent on it. I'm complementing it with a couple of A'pexi EL gauges for consistency (which did set me back a tad more than $50.00  )

Pics coming up, give me a couple of hours....
I believe they are the same ones as found at Vivid Racing, but I'm not sure. Didn't matter much to me as long as they did the job. I know both mine and the one vivid carries have the same "mistake" in them: where it is supposed to say "Check Engine" there is an icon of an engine instead. Still gets the message across though! :)
I'm off to take some pictures.....

just a FYI, my g/f has those same style gauges on her focus (glossy finish that reflects light instead of the nice un glaring stock finish) (also got hers on e-bay real cheap) and hers just blew out this weekend after having them in for only 3 months.
Mine on the other hand have the same finish as the stock (no glare) the red shows up red, and they have been working flawlessly for over 6 months now. i got them from Initial K a while back here on the board. just be cautious because you get what you pay for.

No argument there. I don't think they come with a warranty for $50.00.

Thanks....And since my gauges work in his car I think it might have been a bad ground or power. i kept stepping on the wires because I didn't have them taped or anything. I think I might have pulled them out and not tried to fix them right...
I am trying again sometime soon to see if they work in my car again!

Very nice!
I just have a few questions.
Did you have to tape the gauges to make them stay in place?
Where did you tap the power sources(Red wire)(black for ground) for the gauges?
Also, there are four little black square type connectors for the gauges, which one do you use? I'm guesing you only use two of the four and leave the other one's alone.
I just got mine today and getting ready to install it.
I'll post pix onces I'm done.
TIA

Dazz,
You don't have to tape them. There's a few "notches" that keep them in place. The whold cluster comes apart quite easily and pops back together.
For power: I took out the coin tray at the left, which gave me enough room to pop out the connector that goes into the cruise control. The second wire (I believe it's green) is under power when the dash light goes on so I used one of those vampire clips to tap power from there. I used that one so that all the wires could be routed to the left side of the car, and it also allowed me to stick the control unit for the indiglo gauges to the inside of the dash with double sided tape. For the "controller, I popped out the blank plate for the third connector (next to cruise), stuck the controller through there and popped the blank back in. Clean and simple.
There's two black connectors "left over". Beats me what you're supposed to use them for.
Just don't touch the face of the gauges. It is a real pain to get those fingerprints off :alien:

I've seen them in the magz and saw them once on TV and looked pretty cool. These here are not what I'm referring to but give the idea.

Sounds easy to install. How long did it take you? Does the gauge come with instructions? Must you remove the stock gauge set?
| | 01-30-2002 11:20 PM |
It's pretty straightforward. It took me about 45 minutes. Instructions are included, but it's pretty self-explanatory. I spent most of the time trying to get the new face plate to go over the needles without damaging them. The instructions say NOT to remove the needles. The stock gauge set stays exacty that: stock. Nothing gets removed.
I really like the look. It's a low-cost mod that really pops.

I just got the same set. Took a half hour to install only becuase it was dark out at the time. I got mine off ebay from procarparts.com but you can order direct from them and they are only $61.95. I used the illumination wire off the radio only because it was easy to get to. The whole unit fits nicely under the vents behind the hazard switch.

the one from procarparts blows. There a guy on ebay called unitedindiglo. Get them from him. The check engine light is still wrong but at least the red line is actually red and not black like those.

Uhh, you want to figure out why your car threw the CE light, not clear it and hope it goes away. It doesn't (shouldn't) have anything to do with your gauge install, but who knows? No one, until you get the code scanned.

just bought another set of indiglo gauge form indiglo167, looks great !!! it looks real nice, here's some comparesion with the old one form e-bay before.

I'm surprise how's the new one don't reflect to the light when I took the picture on both gauges at the same time. The problem I had with the old one(beside the wrong print on the check engine llight) is sometime the gauge will reflect to sunlight during day time pretty bad, and I don't see any problem with this.
I'll try take some picture on the car during day time and post it later.

Can't wait for these pics. I have a question though, does the white part (background) of the gauges glow? Or is the blue part of the guages that lights up? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I was just wondering if these were like reverse indigle gauges, cuz I'd be interested in those gauges if the blue part was the one that lit up. Thanx.

These are black at night, white during the day.

IIRC, the ones before were not black faced, but white and always white, even at night.
