MPME...what's the latest with the ESX car? Are you folks going to be doing any more races this year?
projectrally 09-20-2006 07:45 PM

I can't really offer anything of interest--funds are being sought to race the car again, and I surely hope it gets found!

[QUOTE=MPME;14637564]Here'e an '06 rendering done by my man Adrian Gonzalez--it will also serve as the image on the back of our long overdue ESX/Sheehan/SPEED GT T-Shirts.

Use the Tshirts to help finance you guys I am sure people would be willing to go $30 a piece to get one and see you guys there....

ok so you have to sale around 830 of the Tshirts....people can buy 3-4 of them or sale them for $40 a peice you'd have to sale 625...

As do I. I dunno if you are allowed to share this, but what does it typically cost to do a single race? I mean, all that gas, the crew, tires, yada yada...that's gotta be difficult.
eclip5e 09-21-2006 09:05 AM

i'd be equally interested in a budget breakdown.

I can't/won't go into particulars, but average costs for privateer SPEED GT team for a 10 race season come to $300,000 or more.

Single events can be done for less, but looking at the 12 months of expenditures for one's operations, crew, testing, development, repairs, and travel, a proper effort by the more wealthy privateers can run close to $450-500K.

Selling T's is a great thing, for sure, but by no means a business model to plan on or build a real foundation from. On a professional level, no matter what the sport, if you can't do things properly, or have a budget that's proper, it's better to save yourself the hassle and frustration and stay home.

Have you considered getting this car out for time attacks and stuff? It pains me to think of this car not getting driven. :(

Mike, my man, I've thought of getting the car out to every possible event there is! I wish I'd had it at Mosport a few weeks back to fight the Volvo for the win. As for feeling the pain, we all look forward to the car running on a racetrack again.

I agree. Prmote your main sponsor at a Time Attack (spend $400-1000 per event) and get any bugs ringed out on the car ready for racing.

Hang in here and look forward to see the car again on TV.

Unfortunately, the car requires a lot of work, the post-Long Beach work, before she'd be able to turn a wheel. If it was a case of a completed, ready car at my disposal, she'd have been out for a variety of events.

Guys,
why not ask for donations ;) I'm sure $20 here and there could help a small amount. Hell if 1/10 of nasioc donated $20 thats almost enough for gas for a race ;)

Best of luck and i hope you can get the car back out on track!!!

Good points, and the love from the NASIOC community has been received, but going back to what I said about needing a proper foundation in place to succeed, a racing car/program like this can't be built off of donations and handouts, no matter how warm and willing those offerings are.

Just being out there on the track isn't worth it, especially if you can't be out there consistently with a changce of success or improvement. That's different than knowing it takes time to develop a car to succeed, but nonethless, to do this it has to be done properly or not at all.

Marshall have you guys considered looking at other series, Grand am for instance? I know there is an issue with Subaru in the ST class, apparently the legacy is the only model allowed in ST. But maybe GS would be suitable. The feilds seem to be good sized and the racing is clean for the most part. TV coverage is pretty good also even if your back in the pack some.

I hope you guys can find the $500,000 or so for a full season, it would be great to watch you battle it out with the CTS / Vette / Viper teams.

Thanks--before I went forward with a full road racing build on the ESX car, I did make inquiries to both the SCCA and GAC. The STi was denied for GAC-GS competiton.
Rally_wgn 09-21-2006 04:12 PM

Figured you guys already had, i just didnt see it in any of the threads.

Im playing the lotto this week, if I win I'll let you. LOL!

No not at all but you said you guys need 25Gs to do this upcoming event. IMO it will work for that or at least get you closer.

Also I am sure you have gone this route but have you contacted SOA...
Butt Dyno 09-21-2006 05:18 PM

Denied for GS? Why? Doesn't fit the image of the series or something?

Wanna refresh our memories?

Last things I remember being waited on were APR WideBody (done I assume, since other cars are running the kit), 6Gun balljoint extenders (done), and brake system re-engineering from Stop Tech (done?).

i think that the 06 body style is boring to begin with, but that kit makes it look very aggressive, and it's functional. way to go APR
E-Wrex 10-14-2006 06:05 PM

APR Kits are pretty tasteful, but for the money I don't see the point. Unless you are really trying to squeeze that last little bit of tire or something, it just seems silly. I do like how some of them are kind of GT Inspired. I really liked their blob-eye kit, and the one that was featured in SCC or wherever, even with all the little canards and doodads. I couldn't see myself in something that sticks out that much, cause I'd feel like a doosh, but they certainly look cool.

[QUOTE=GarySheehan;13983806]It's a widebody kit. It's not a "Transformers" body kit.

You would think stuffing 305 wide racing tires under an STi would be impressive around here. Oh, wait. Maybe if they were 305 wide tires that made red smoke during a drifting competition...

Bringing the CC style smackdown over here now Gary.
eclip5e 10-15-2006 04:06 PM

Was the 2005 season ESX road racing WRX transformed into the 2006 front end, or was a totally new WRX built for the 2006 season?
