Ferrari confirm Brawn's exit

Thursday, October 26th 2006, 14:35 GMT

The Ferrari team have confirmed that Ross Brawn will leave the Italian squad following the end of the season, as exclusively revealed by Autosport magazine.

Brawn's position as technical director will be taken by Mario Almondo at the start of November, while Stefano Domenicali becomes the team's sporting director.

Engine guru Paolo Martinelli will also leave Ferrari, moving to parent company Fiat.

Frenchman Jean Todt, who was confirmed yesterday as Ferrari's new CEO, will also take on, as an interim, the role of managing director of the Ferrari's Gestione Sportiva.

The technical department will be made up of chassis department, headed up by Aldo Costa, while Gilles Simon will be responsible for engine department, with both men reporting to Almondo.

"Ferrari offers its most heartfelt thanks to Ross Brawn and Paolo Martinelli for their immense contribution in the drafting of an extraordinary chapter in the history of the Scuderia and motor sport," said Ferrari in a statement, "which has produced a tally of eleven world titles and of around ninety wins in Formula One Grands Prix.

"After years of hard and demanding work, Ross Brawn has decided to turn his attention to his personal life, while Paolo Martinelli will take on an important role within the Fiat Group: to them go best wishes for a satisfying future."
I guess I'm used to the Queen's English. ;)

"Pete Rose" & "Fred" Alonso I comprehend, but "Jackie Newtown" was entirely new to me.

well i missed this thread completely, but im gunna throw a few of my opinions out there.

I dont think McLaren will tank. Sure they are losing all their drivers (most likely), but why do they need a driver who remembers how bad the car was this year? They have a driver who knows how to make a good car (alonsos memories of renault) so they should be fine as long as fernando can give good incite.

ferrari is still up in the air. while they could tank with the loss of everyone, they can also be good with new people coming in, you never know.

renault should still be a good team, just depends on how well their drivers can manage. Fisi can win, but he didnt do it much.

Ferrari will be fine. They didn't leave a legacy of just names. They're going to keep going and continue winning. They have been strong for nearly a decade, I'm sure they'll be bringing the fight for 2007.

A lot of Ferrari being good has been their ability to have Schumacher carry the day. I don't know if Kimi can do this.
bitterWRX 10-26-2006 09:02 PM

True. But I'm sure they've been preparing for this day to come and I think they're going to be hard pressed to perform just as well, if not better, then the past 9 seasons. Of course only time will tell, but I have a feeling that they will still be competitive next season.

Next season they should still be competative, but its not going to be like 02 or 04 ever again, at least with them.
