Hockenheim: Let's try this again. part 2

donjuan 07-25-2001 09:16 AM

Yep, just what I was thinking, he did alot for Jordan.

I'm sure there are a couple teams who will jump at the chance to grab him up.
J Colman 07-25-2001 09:55 AM

Yep, he just needs babying a little, that's why he sucked at Williams. Sir Frank doesn't like to give his drivers one-on-one, he expects them to take care of things themselves.
SCRAPPYDO 07-25-2001 10:36 AM

Dude this is a shock to me!! Frentzen did a lot for Jordan in 1999. Ouch. But this does raise the concern as to who will get the seat permanently. Zonta will no doubt get it for Germany, but after that its an open book. I would like to see Verstappen or even better Villeneuve.

Ones things for sure, I will have to carry the torch for my entire team now.

Anybody want to drive in Frentzens car... their are man other "benefits" to driving for Jordan! hahahaha

J Colman 07-25-2001 10:38 AM

Yeah, hopefully Verstappen will get to prove his worth
SpinAll4 07-25-2001 03:25 PM

Frentzen was overheard to say this when he got fired....

"but, but, but, it wasn't me 'who grapped on my tired', really it wasn't me!!!"

donjuan 07-25-2001 03:26 PM

J Colman 07-25-2001 04:01 PM

Maybe Frentzen Grapped on Eddie Jordan, and thats what pissed him off.

donjuan 07-25-2001 04:03 PM

In a related story, Sir Frank has repremanded me for grapping with the brunette Jordan model...
J Colman 07-25-2001 04:25 PM

hahahahaha
These F1 discussions get so sidetracked after about the first 10 responses.

Justin
johnfelstead 07-25-2001 06:19 PM

Frentzen has done bugger all for ages.

You can't live in the past in F1, simple as that.

I forgot to tell you guys. That brunette in the piccie on the left.

Your gonna die with this one.

her name is............

*drum roll*

JORDAN

Danaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :D
Fred Zaplitny 07-25-2001 08:12 PM

I've talked to Eddie and it seems you'll be getting the Jordan ride John. You need to take your Westie in for the B&H paint job since that's what you'll be driving. They will be installing the Honda drivetrain though. Good luck and don't grap onto anything... ;) Give Chili Dog a break this weekend and let him win one.
donjuan 07-26-2001 08:08 AM

new predictions

1. Me (moving into Ralf's car--Ralf has chicken pox)
2. johnfelstead (kicks Zonta in the shin and takes Frentzen's car)
3. J Colman (points leader)
4. scrappydo (out to get me for taking Jordan away from Jordan)
5. Fred Zaplitny (takes the #6 car, good drive, but has trouble from chilidog grease on the steering wheel)
6. Kimi (last of the rookies)
J Colman 07-26-2001 09:33 AM

Here we go again
Arioch 07-26-2001 09:34 AM

maybe williams will do well this weekend...
from fi1.com
It's Lederhosen Weather!

This weekend's German Grand Prix will be one of the hottest races so far this season

This weekend's German Grand Prix will be one of the hottest races this season, with expected temperatures as high as 90 degrees Farenheit. The Hockenheim track, near Heidelberg, will bask in glorious sunshine for the next four days, with Saturday's qualifying day being the hottest. With the expected clear boy skies and hot track temperatures the Michelin tyres should excel, making the already hotly-tipped BMW WilliamsF1 Team a possible favourites for the race.
let's see if their car's stay together....
i still have to cheer for mika, dc, and kimi.

donjuan 07-26-2001 09:37 AM

high attrition??

Heat kills cars...it may be typical Hockenheim with plenty of drivers done early.

Damn I wish I could be there, I miss it so...

SpinAll4 07-26-2001 09:50 AM

Is it possible to eat a sufficient amount of ChiliDogs whilst wearing Leiderhosen.<-- I am checking for a friend ;)

Can we have a "ChiliDog" Message Icon please?

Williams had better kick some serious arse this weekend.

Has anyone read some of the rumors than HH will be going to Toyota F1 ?
donjuan 07-26-2001 09:51 AM

my prediction...

HHF will be in a green Jag next year.
SCRAPPYDO 07-26-2001 10:19 AM

donjuan, tell me you are just speculating!!

I will have to go to all the F1 sights to check this out.

Jarno Trulli, will do well at this race. Its his chance to proove to Eddie that he is qualified to be the Number 1 driver at Jordan. Personally I would like to see the Italian get a podium. I dont think that anybody would say he is not an incredibly talented driver to do as well as he does.

If Jordan gets the more powerful Honda Engine, I think his future is quite bright with Jordan!

In other words, Jordans RULE!

Fred Zaplitny 07-26-2001 09:55 PM

donjuan spelled my last name right, but can he pronounce it?

This is a new challenge. Whoever can phonetically (sp?) (spell it as it sounds) spell my last name here first gets $5.00 paypalled to them. I believe this is the first money reward on our F-1 threads. Please give your e-mail address with your reply so I can send payment if you can freaking pronounce it!

Chili Dog will win!

:D
Lurker 07-27-2001 07:46 AM

I'll try the really obvious:

J Colman 07-27-2001 08:35 AM
David Coulthard is still refusing to give up on this season's world championship after targeting victory in Sunday's German Grand Prix.

Speaking before first practice the Scot said his eyes were firmly on the performance of world championship leader Michael Schumacher, as opposed to the Williams BMWs who many have tipped to top the times in Germany.

And he denied he has given up the battle to win the driver's championship. "There is still a long way to go," he insisted ahead of the German Grand Prix.

"Hockenheim is not my last chance in the world championship," he insisted. "Coulthard pronounced himself fully fit despite suffering an allergic reaction to food he ate last week.

"Ferrari is the main competitor in the championship and we must concentrate on that. My first target is it to win in Hockenheim to turn around the battle for the world championship."
donjuan 07-27-2001 08:42 AM

dammit...

...Ralf offed this morning.

Chili Dog was quick in the second session though...
J Colman 07-27-2001 09:00 AM

Eddie E was fastest,

Justin
donjuan 07-27-2001 09:02 AM

yeah i know...

...where the hell did that come from??

I guess it just proves practice means nothing.

Speaking of Irvine, what an ass he's been in the press lately...he slams everybody but Schumi. Uuhhhh, kiss-ass much??
J Colman 07-27-2001 09:26 AM

He loves Schumi
donjuan 07-27-2001 09:35 AM

I loved how he claimed the only driver better than him (Irvine) was Schumi. He blasted DC, Mika, and said he was better than all of them.

Maybe he's a better driver than Mika, but I think Mika can count better. Mika knows that 2 World Championships is more than 0 World Championships.
J Colman 07-27-2001 10:06 AM

Seriously,
I dont think that many people take him all that serious though. I think they know he just talks crap and tries to be confrontational, that's just his nature, I think.

Justin
donjuan 07-27-2001 10:10 AM

Yeah I know, but it's just annoying. There's always somebody who has to talk trash constantly...
J Colman 07-27-2001 10:42 AM

Thats F1 for ya.
It's considered the pinnacle of motor racing and yet there is so much immaturity involved with it.

I would be chuffed to get paid half of what these get, to drive a race car for a living. Yet they always find some way to cry about the situation they are in. Look at Button (I dont mind him), his dad was in tears over his current situation a few weeks back. Excuse me, your crying because your son is having a down year? What about the 1 million sail boat he bought himself, and the nice cars he has, living in Monaco, having a PHAT girlie. Give me a break, he should be crying about some poverty stricken children in some third world country. Give me a break, it makes me sick. Poor, Poor, Jenson.

o.k. now I am pissed j/k

Justin
donjuan 07-27-2001 10:52 AM

!!!

It happens in all professional sports. What's really sad is that for every F1 driver who makes it there are probably hundreds who don't who are nearly just as good, would work for 1/2 as much or less, and NOT bitch about the situation they're in. Same for the NFL, MLB, etc. Hell if I had the ability to be a professional driver, I'd do it for my CURRENT salary and be delighted. Even boring turn-left IRL or something. It amazes me that the sporting world's superstars can't appreciate what they have.
J Colman 07-27-2001 11:00 AM

They just get to high on themselves and forget about reality, it really sucks.
SpinAll4 07-28-2001 02:50 PM

GERMAN ENGINES MADE IN GERMANY

Oh Yeah Williams/BMW put the smack down hard in Germany.

Pole Position goes to..

CHILI DOG

2. Ralfie
3. Mika ,- will retire and be a stand up comic
4. Mikey
5. Dinky Chode
6. Rubens,- just getting a paycheck this week

A Juan anda Two
A Jaun anda Two
A Juan anda Two
for Williams.
Fred Zaplitny 07-28-2001 05:58 PM

Damn I hope Juan takes it tomorrow. He put a lot of practice laps in on Friday, so the pole is no surprise. He just needs a little luck to get to the top of the podium tomorrow.
Fred Zaplitny 07-29-2001 09:59 AM

Damn Montoya's bad luck! That should've been his first victory. He obviousely had the most dominant car out there. Just goes to show that you have to be lucky and good. He's just great and it isn't good enough.
J Colman 07-29-2001 10:10 AM

He was too tough on the car, Ralphie played it cool and chilled out, while Chilidog pushed the car to the limit.

At least DC went out.
King Ding187 07-29-2001 10:26 AM

Montoya was kickin major arse before the fuel hose failed to go in, and then the great BMW engine starts smokin...... I smell a conspiracy here
donjuan 07-29-2001 11:18 AM

Didn't somebody predict that Ralf would win?? Who was that?? :D
Fred Zaplitny 07-29-2001 02:27 PM

BMW conspiracy theory

It was a conspiracy. The German engine manufacturer sabotaged the fuel rig to hold Montoya back. When he got back out in 4th, they felt he was still a major threat to win so they detinated the small device they had planted in his engine. No way could they let a Columbian win in Germany, when their German driver had the second best car. Just my theory anyway.
johnfelstead 07-29-2001 05:46 PM

damn you guys talk some crap at times. :D

Chilli dogs engine went bang because he sat in the pits too long and cooked it. Simple as that.

Damn, germany was hot this weekend. I had major charge temp issues at the ring. I did a nuts journey again. Left at 1pm from home friday, arived at the ring at 3:15am sat morning. bed then up at 9am. On track from 10am till 7:30 pm. Packed up, showered then set off from the ring at 9pm back to the UK. I arrived at MIRA proving grounds at 7:30am sunday morning after having 2 hours sleep on the way. I then assisted in setting a new world record for driving a car sideways. see http://i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76591

damn i need some sleep. ;)
Fred Zaplitny 07-29-2001 06:14 PM

Yes John, but if it wasn't for the sabotaged fuel rig Montoya would have been out of the pits sooner. It was all a part of their plan. :D
SpinAll4 07-30-2001 01:06 AM

did that first start crash look like it was from that movie 'Driven'?

and did JPM grapp on his entire car?
ZFEVER 07-30-2001 01:16 AM

After his leaving the race, Mike did not return to the pits. Reason? So he could throw stuff at DC. Looks like it worked! Looks like things are shaping up nicely for the Williams vs. McLaren deathmatch 2001! I think SPA will turn out to be an imortant race.
J Colman 07-30-2001 08:49 AM

Ralphie is closing in on DC for second in the championship fight. It could be a Schumacher 1,2

Justin
donjuan 07-30-2001 09:40 AM

Ralf will take second this year, just ahead of Rubens. Don't expect many more points from DC, if any. He's done. If they gave points for whining, he'd have the championship sewn up though.

Looks like Alesi may be in a Jordan for the rest of the season...???
Subi Chicky 07-30-2001 09:56 AM

What a heck of a show at Hockenheim. For a while I began to wonder if maybe all the major players would succumb to car trouble and, say, Villenueve and Fisichella would be left to win!
Have to say I am quite pleased with Ralf's podium.
*Sigh* It just breaks my heart that he's engaged. . .

PS Oh come on guys, you know I can't spell.
J Colman 07-30-2001 10:05 AM

Just for you SubiChick

DC was whining again about how they should not have restarted the race.

Justin
donjuan 07-30-2001 10:13 AM

Yeah he said Whiting was favoring Schumi. I used to give DC a little credit, but what a whiner.

Ralf drove a good race. Hockenheim (at least up until this year before they revamp it) always takes a little bit of a "pace" type strategy. It's almost a mini-endurance race. You have to go fast, but also conserve when you can, because the course is so hard on cars, especially in the heat they had over there this weekend. I think actually Ralf drove the race the best way possible. JPM had a faster car, but he blazed away early, which probably contributed to his retirement. Then at the last half of the race, Ralf had a good lead, so he just found Rubens' pace and stuck to that, not going any faster than he had to. Smart driving.

I owe the guy three beers now :(
gtguy 07-30-2001 11:41 AM

Now, Michael Schumacher's lucky. Notice how his demeanor changed after Coulthard's car blew up? Unreal race.

Montoya...just bad luck, though I'm sure that sitting there in the pits revving had something to do with it. According to InsideF1, in fact his car was filling even though it wasn't registering. He had a load and a half of fuel. Staggering.

Rubens showed me a lot, too. He and Coulthard's dice was awesome, and I loved that outside pass.

Kevin
J Colman 07-30-2001 11:49 AM

Overall the race was pretty evciting, I really enjoyed it. Hungaroring is next boys, a totally different outcome
donjuan 07-30-2001 11:49 AM

I hate to see Hockenheim changed. It's nice to have a variety of courses, and having one that's a car-killer always proves interesting. It always seems to be a good show. At least they renewed the contract to keep the GP there until '08. Hopefully that will give me a chance to get back.
J Colman 07-30-2001 01:10 PM

When were you there?
donjuan 07-30-2001 01:18 PM

1999 most recently.
J Colman 07-30-2001 02:21 PM

Cool, my mom and dad were at Silverstone about 10 months ago, they brought me some goodies back (Schumi shirt) hehehehehe
donjuan 07-30-2001 02:23 PM

??

You still have family in the UK then??
J Colman 07-30-2001 03:07 PM

My mom and dad live here now, but my grandmother and my brother (and his family) still live in England. My brother lives in Hurst which is just near reading (South) and my Granma lives in the north of England near Scotland.

Never been outside of Heathrow myself. A proper tour is on my list though.
J Colman 07-30-2001 03:31 PM

My brothers daughter is being christened in early september and they really want me and my wife to go over and be Godparents, I really want to go, but I doubt we will. It is a lot of money for 2 days. I used up all my vacation this year when I went on my honeymoon....DAMN

Justin
donjuan 07-30-2001 03:39 PM

travel

Anything over the pond is pricey, especially if you try to ride up front :) I'm hoping to get back to Deutschland next year, but the same money/vacation problem always is there. I'll try to plan after they schedule the German GP...

Do you normally fly British Air?? Virgin?? I'll try to keep my eyes open for a good UP fare...
J Colman 07-30-2001 04:19 PM

Virgin is great if you are going Economy Class. BA rules if you are in their busuness or First, you can't mess with BA.

High flying Burti
Talks about his accident [31/07/01 - 16:23]

Luciano Burti / Prost

Prost driver Luciano Burti was lucky to walk away unhurt following his first lap shunt with the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher at the start of the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. An unsighted Burti rear- ended Schumacher at 250kph when the German's F2001 lost its gears leaving him stranded in the middle of the track. Burti's Prost was launched into the air, somersaulting over the top of Enrique Bernoldi's Arrows before landing heavily and sliding across the track before finally coming to a halt in the gravel trap after hitting the barrier.

All three drivers walked away from the accident, and while the Arrows team made a few running repairs to Bernoldi's car as they waited for the debris to be cleared and the race to be restarted, both Burti and Schumacher were able to get into their spare cars and begin the second race. Although the second start was much better for Burti he later retired from the race complaining that his arm hurt and he was not able to control the car properly. Speaking to Autosport before heading home to relax for the August break, Burti explained how he saw the accident and what had transpired.

Burti said: "It's pretty much what you can see on TV. I had a Jordan on my left, and I think a BAR on my right, I don't know, and I also had someone in front of me. So suddenly the car in front of me avoided Michael, and when I saw him, it was too late. Because I had a few cars beside me I had no choice. It was close to the braking point and it was just too late, I couldn't avoid it. The whole thing was very smooth, and that's why maybe I wasn't that afraid, to be honest. In the first impact with Michael, and then even when the car landed again, the whole thing was smooth, which surprised me really. Maybe because the car was destroying itself it was absorbing the impacts. That shows us how safe the cars are now. And it shows you how fast F1 cars accelerate – I was doing 250kph…I remember I was upside down for a moment, but it was quite quick, and then I was again the right way."

With regards to hitting the barrier as well Burti said: "That was probably the biggest hit, the one in the barrier. But it all took quite a long time to happen, so I had time to take my hands off the steering wheel, and I knew exactly what was happening, so it was pretty good to realise straight away what I had to do and that I was OK. Before checking myself I knew I was OK because I didn't feel I'd hit anything. I had hit my arm, but at that moment I didn't feel anything."

Surprisingly Burti was not checked out by F1 doctor Sid Watkins before being allowed into his spare car to take the restart. However the Brazilian puts that down to the fact that everyone saw him running back to the garage so they probably thought that he was fine, however he did admit that his team was more worried about him than he himself was.

He said: "I think everyone that saw it was more worried than myself. Again, I cannot explain why, but because the whole thing was very smooth I wasn't scared about it, so going back into the spare car was OK. My first lap in the race was the same time as other people, so it showed that it was no problem."

That crash did look pretty damn scary...I bet he didn't realize he'd hurt his arm, then once the adrenaline wore off and he got into race pace he was thinking "Hey my arm kinda hurts..."
