NoHandsNurse 10-30-2009 12:21 AM

Thanks.
Penguin_02 11-15-2009 08:27 PM

I'm trying to paint my front emblem like the JDM style cherry blossom red for 02-05 badges. I'm wondering what is the paint code for that paint? and how would i obtain it?
treveym 11-16-2009 07:18 PM
yeah will this work with the JDM "I" badges?
hell yea! the concept is the same... little easier i think too, not a bunch of stars to clean out.

here's mine, came out great and keeps my silver/red theme going:

treveym 11-18-2009 07:23 AM
is that a replica or jdm? the badge
pretty sure it was JDM, i could be mistaken. it was pink before i painted it. picked it up at a swap meet brand new and in one of those sealed subaru parts baggies
constantino7491 11-22-2009 06:40 PM

i just cleaned off an "I" badge and it was hell, don't know if it was original or ebay though...
Penguin_02 11-23-2009 01:35 AM

Penguin_02 11-23-2009 02:03 AM

To take the badge off I've found that after heating it up use either dental floss or fishing line. Heat it up and just work your way through. A lot less risk as opposed to use something like a screwdriver or knife.

I was actually going to do white background with black stars...also repainting the chrome black. Tint my lights and just go all black and white. Might take me a bit though considerin' I'm a youngen =\

I have a white 2006 impreza sedan
smknv8s 12-24-2009 07:24 PM

Outrageously fresh man. Good stuff.
Saffron 12-25-2009 02:59 PM

Crazy how much flare simply changing your badge up can add to your car. Definitely an awesome thread and cool DIY project. Really contemplating it now!
cmoose 12-30-2009 10:01 PM

what kind of adhesive are you guys using to stick the badge back on?
therealratfink 12-30-2009 10:43 PM

3m double stick molding tape. basically the same as stock.
BugeyedWREX 12-31-2009 08:09 PM

So After 2 fails I give up, cracked both attempting to get the crome out. The crome is nearly impossible to get off the 02 badge. Im gonna go buy an 03 badge....
[emailprotected] 12-31-2009 08:56 PM

awhitewrx 02-02-2010 03:10 PM

great write up, i didn't understand that the badges were see through plastic...:unamused:
synracing33 02-02-2010 04:34 PM

I saw this post and knew right away this was a mod I wanted to do. I originally tried using paint thinner but after much rubbing, no results. I had rubbing alcohol close by so I decided to try that. Bad choice. It hazed the plastic and caused it to crack.

SO, I went to Perry Subaru and got a new badge. I used goof off this time around and that worked perfectly. I tried my best to match the blue of the badge to the car and its close enough for me.

beedee 02-02-2010 07:45 PM

ive been contemplating on doing my trunk one satin white pearl, leaving the stars chrome, the blue is kinda loud.
Madtinter 02-07-2010 10:05 PM

I'd like to know if the 09 is in 2 pieces also
therealratfink 02-07-2010 10:16 PM

The chrome ring and the clear plastic is separate on the new one as well.
Madtinter 02-07-2010 10:20 PM

thanks
jonnylin1 02-28-2010 03:43 AM

nice, that turned out well
polarisboy385 03-02-2010 10:55 PM

so i like this mod, and i wanna do it, but im thinking with mione since its a paprike red pearlescent body, lay down a coat of glow paint for the main star, then go in and paint purple 3m reflective paint for the stars, then spray on some touch up paint for the base, so when its in sunlight its purple, when headlights hit it, its reflective and pruple, when its pitch black out.... all you see is the star.... what do you guys think
Uverjump 03-02-2010 11:19 PM

Daaaang, nice job.. I kinda want to try it now, haha
zigzag801 03-26-2010 06:41 PM

Has anyone tried using Krylon Fusion plastic paint? I have a bottle of white and black laying around and was thinking about giving it a try. Here's what it looks like...
I foresee someone doing a pedo bear ...
damn you, now i lost all inspiration to do it since i wanted it to be a surprise
Madtinter 03-27-2010 01:48 PM

I was initially going to do the face on the front badge and a rear end with tail on the rear, but got lazy.
djinn 04-12-2010 01:09 AM

I was thinking Gold stars with a white background. Gotta go to Home depot again tomorrow for the gold paint.
twentyclowns 04-12-2010 01:20 AM

hey ratfink, can you describe the process? what sandpaper did u use and how did you not sand off the silver?
also did you take it right out while the grill was still on? some people are saying that if you heat the badge up from the front it will ruin the emblem so im scared to actually try this, what safe way do you suggest popping the emblem out?
The Database 04-12-2010 02:13 AM

WHITE; blue and yellow looks nice too.
Stoned_Llama 04-12-2010 03:02 AM

I will revive the Pedo Bear! This has inspired me. My car came with a debadged sports grill, so I just want to cover the holes.
Coop1103 05-07-2010 06:16 PM

I have my 07 badge off and cannot figure out how to open it..can anyone help..im not finding any holes to pop it off?
gobluesubygo 05-07-2010 06:44 PM

that almost makes me want to put it on my new grill.. this is a great write up!
lightfx 05-07-2010 10:25 PM

Nice job and a good write up.
NCORWRX 05-07-2010 11:32 PM

Sittin on the couch right now with my front, a box of q-tips, some brake cleaner (cheap buzz ;)) and a bottle of pearl white finger nail polish. Pics when complete.

Edit: Ok, after hours of scrubbing with brake cleaner (as goo gone was makin no headway) and wet sanding and carefully painting... I have come to the conclusion that it is time to buy a new badge... might post pics, from a ways back, with a soft focus.
paperdukie 05-14-2010 12:50 PM

Great writeup, I followed the steps but I gotta say getting the chrome out was the biggest PITA ever. Took me a few hours but here is the final result, I matched the badge to the two-tone paint on the rest of the car. (Sorry for the crappy pics)

djinn 05-17-2010 08:23 PM

I just took my badges off like 2mins ago. Anyone else damage the crome piece around the plastic badge?

Update: Took me a day cleanest I could get

I know there are still some chrome spots but plan on taking off paint again and redoing it. This time with paint thinner.
SOOBYNOOBY 05-20-2010 07:38 AM

Well I just removed the grill and pulled the badge so after work paint removal here I come!!
SOOBYNOOBY 05-24-2010 08:45 PM

Just installed my grill and badge. I had my buddy mix up some Sonic Yellow and did my stars then sprayed the background black.Sorry for the crappy pic

You can see where i pried it off i cracked the plastic
the goof off melted the plastic pretty good but most of it buffed out
jdmimprez 06-20-2010 11:26 PM

Hmmmmmmm.... I know what I'm doing this weekend
scoobysnacks420 06-20-2010 11:58 PM

For those who arent good with a paintbrush (like myself) I found it easier to use a straw and dip it in paint plugging the top of the straw with your finger, and then dripping it into a star and then tilt the badge allowing gravity to fill the stars with the paint, its fairly easy to know when to stop tilting because the paint moves kind of slow, but overall it took me about five minutes to fill in everything using this method, and then I painted the back of the badge with plastic spray paint. sorry if someone has already found this method I dunno how I came up with it...
djinn 06-21-2010 12:09 AM

An update on mine! forgot to post new pictures of me redoing mine.
