How To - Swap a 2004 USDM STi Steering Wheel into a 2002 WRX part 3

M SPEC 06-20-2016 01:56 PM

I have contacted the original poster several time requesting pics...no luck!

yea what a bummer..

I am more interested in the whole swapping the older style cruise lever into the 05 STi housing..

other than that, seems like just swapping the charge from an older wheel into the Newer STi wheels is basically all thats needed..

Trying to figure out how to do it with NO cutting of wires...or removal of clock spring

Yah I'm trying to figure out the same. I may go to the 05 lever and re-wire

if you re-wire the cruise stalk to accept the 05 lever..post of good pics of what wires connect where n whatnot

Yeah looks like I'll be reverse engineering this a touch, but perhaps I can clean it up too... I'll order a stalk today.

This is when I discovered that my sti wheel doesn't even have a hole for the stalk (spec-c???? Dunno) just before 100 other things I need to do pile in. It's on my plate but I'm trying to prep the car for a badly needed tune etc.

Ooooooo! Good start, got a few of thems. The bosses and mounts seem to be there on the frame of the wheel, I wonder if that plastic part that needs to be cut is available at the dealer for usdm.

Cover is 15, stalk new is 75 btw

irrc is incorporated into the wheel itself, I will check mine.

What I am trying to avoid is actually cutting/splicing the 05+STi cruise stalk into the older version..even if I can just use the older style CC Lever and mount it to the innards of the STi wheel, I would be fine with that..and being that the 05+STi CC Lever has the on/off built into the level..and our older cars have the Dash mounted button..that is useless to me..

Just looked both Cruise Levers, the 05+ STi and the older 02-03 Style.

05 STi Lever has 5 Wires, 02-03 has 3.

3 of the 5 match up with the correct colors, but the 05 STi Lever has an extra black & red wiring, assuming this is power for the Push-Activated Cruise Engage button thats incorporated in to the lever VS on the dash(02-03) Models.

If anyone can confirm this that'd be great! if thats what i suspect they are, when splicing them, I would just leave the Black/Red Wires disconnected..? and use the Dash mounted Cruise engage switch.?

As far as fitting the entire older 02-03 Lever into the 05 STi wheel, its seems like it would fit, but the screw mounting holes do not line up, a little trimming on the plastic cover and some adhesive on the older Level stuck to the plastic shroud would probably work..but obviously wouldn't be that clean..but that method would avoid any cutting/splicing required...

^pics no work

Yes, I 'd like to retain the 05 Newer style lever, but still use the Main Dash switch for the Engage.

Wiring appears to be basically the same, but 2 of them are not color-to-color, it will make the Up/Down function opposite from what I've read.
