I Want to lower my 06 seat

Hey all, Just wondering if anyone has lowered their stock 06 wrx limited seats. I'm 6'3" and I like to drive pretty upright and I keep hitting my head on the roof, and i'm not even autocrossing yet! Other than custom fabricating something, are there any options? I don't want to get rid of my seats though anything but the leather would just look brutal. I was thinking some racing seats brackets that might be similar? help me out! I couldn't find anything searching.
ps- michigan roads are mostly to blame for my head hitting, going around a corner hit a HUGE pothole you get the picture.

Thanks for the suggestion keshav, although japanparts say they probably wont work :( anyone else have an idea?

Bringing this back ttt.
I have a similar situation, I have a sunroof in my WRX and when I test fitted last night my helmet hits. And I'm only 6' So if i could get the seat 1/2 to 1" lower that would be excellent. Otherwise it looks like I'll be driving with a slight gangsta lean when I autox.

You could always get a bucket seat since the seat height position is adjustable. I just installed a Bride Zeta bucket in my WRX and on the lowest setting it feels like I'm driving a baththub :p
| BryanH | 05-17-2006 03:06 PM |
When I went from my 03 seats to the 05 STI seats I was kinda shocked at how much higher the 05 seat bottoms are (please excuse the horrific grammar). Maybe try and get a set of 02/03 seats.
| sperry7 | 05-17-2006 08:07 PM |
yeah, I would just do that but the limited's have leather as you probably know and I don't want to spend extra money on something I paid to factory "upgrade" if you consider that so. Basically, I want to keep the leather, but lose the height. I saw some lowering brackets that will apparently work in the classifieds here for $399, but that is pretty ridiculous I could get that dp i've been wanting.

WOW!!! You figured out Petter' problem! He is losing all the Rally's because he cannot see where he is going! Take another look sometime. They sit where they are because of the helmet and the rollcage. The visibility is just fine.

You might want to try the height dial on the side; I'm 6'2" and I have a good 4-6" above my had. I'd still have space even if I had a helmet on.
edit: just kidding if you've got a sunroof, that'd cut down space a lot. I don't know if limiteds all have sunroofs or not, but if they do, my bad.

haha yeah, they do unfortunately and to tell you the truth it's really not that bad unless the roads are messed up and I'm driving pretty hard. The roof just messes up the top of my hair usually, i'm getting kinda used to it. Thanks for the input though!

Try taking out some fabric from the seat. A lot of Miata guys do this to avoid hitting their heads on the convertible roof rails.

I'm in the same boat (04' WRX Sedan) 6'5" & a helmet is outta the question for now. I've been talking to HKS usa and Bride and they seem to think that the HKS Kansai or Bride low position seat rails will work with the US stock seats. I'd really like to confirm this too though...

Seats aren't that hard to swap out if you just want the lower seat position for autocrossing. The 02's definitely have a lower height, and they're pretty easy to come by on Ebay or a regional salvage yard.

Not sure if this is the right answer, but we used to remove padding from the seats on miatas for taller (over 5'8") drivers... the windshield top always seem to line up with the lights at the intersection... what a pisser.
I don't know how easy it is to open the limited seats and replace the butt cushion with something shallower.
Good luck.

is there anything about safety or engineering on the seat rails having to be level with the body of the car? the driver's rails are free to tilt down at the back as their mounts are about 3-4 inches tall, but the mounts at the front are obstructed by the unibody.
If you can tilt the seat rails down from the back, you could gain a few inches, it shouldn't be that difficult to fabricate replacements for these rail mounts that are shorter than stock. I'm not sure how safe that is by changing the seat geometry though.
Also, the front mounts have about 1 inch to come down, so if someone wants to lower the seat a total of 1 inch, it is possible by machining all 4 seat mounts.

^^ i was wondering the same thing. it might be bad to change the angles that your seatbelts are on. same thing with change the height and angle of the side airbags.

I've actually done this ^^^^ but an inch?? I maybe got 1/2 inch without seriously compromising the sructural integrity of the seat rails. I actually notched out the rails to clear the raised section in the floor and drilled out the bolt holes a bit more to let them drop.
I'm working on how to do the rear's too so I'll try to post some pics and let you know how it comes out.
Oh, drivin' an 04' wrx sedan BTW...

Very cool definitely update this thread with pics and results if it works out!
The reply from TIC said that bc of DOTregulations it costs a lot to fabricate and sell lower seat rails. Prohbitively in their mind.
I would be a little concerned about grinding my rails for crash safety. Can anyone maybe borrow some aftermarket rails and try them out? I will look to do this soon at a meet.

yup we know about the lever... thanks!
Apparently getting seat rails- a very important crash safety component costs a lot of coin and for a product that hasn't shown to be extremely profitable I don't think a company is going to take the plunge.
Our only bet is to find some aftermarket seat rails that will fit. So next time you are at a meet take out your seat and try out some seat rails from a buddies car.
I will pm some vendors who sell seats to see if next time they take the stock seats out try out some different rails. Who sells seats beside like Worldone?

don't try to mod your seat. you have to bite the bullet and buy a lower sport seat or some low down rails. I'm suprised it's an issue given theres usually tons of space up there w/o a sunroof. I guess the sunroof isn't engineered very well.

Based on the response from this thread I think it could be a very lucrative product, that could be based upon existing seat rail design. Come on Vendors!
