HAHAHAHA, I watched this video when I did a track event at Sebring with Chin Motorsports. I was in the class room and this was the first video; they had a list of about six things that the driver did improperly. At the end of the vid, they said to never drive like him LOL

Even a professional was a beginner at some point in their life.

 I'm guessing at least one of them is dead on.
So what were the six things so I can correct their misconceptions?
Correct misconeceptions? You seem to be under the misconception that you are Michael Schumacher or Mario Andretti.

Off the top of my head:

1. Ego with a video camera. The way you narrate, you clearly think you're doing some sort of instructional video for your friends back home showing them what a phenomenal driver you are. Videos like yours and Mr. IFLYSOLO ([ame="http://www.streetfire.net/video/happens-to-the-best-of-us_43500.htm"]Object reference not set to an instance of an object.[/ame]) are why many clubs will not allow beginners to have video cameras in their car

2. You did not have an instructor in the car with you. The video is only of 1/3 of a lap and I'm not going back to look at it to evaluate the other corners but I have a feeling that this wasn't the only corner that day that you screwed up... it bit you in the *ss but wasn't the only one

3. You were fixated on the Porsche. One of the biggest beginner errors is watching the car in front. Just last week I had a student fixate on the car in front and, if I hadn't said something, he would've followed the car right off the track

4. As a result of the above, you turned in early... with too much speed. Instead of in slow, out fast, you tried in fast out dead. Luckily the resulting accident wasn't too bad

5. You forced the car into the turn and trying to hit the apex rather than getting offline, slowing the car down, and regaining your composure

6. No way for me to know but you probably abruptly lifted which brought the back end around more once it started to go

Instead of feeling the need to "correct misconceptions" get over it. You flipped the car. Hopefully you learned from it. It sounds like you've gotten back on the track to get more experience under your belt. You don't owe anything to anybody so why feel the need to argue whether you did something right or wrong?

I'm going to take my own advice now and leave it be and not feel the need to prove anything to anyone and to continue an argument over the internet...

Why the need to say something like this? It's in the past, you've clearly improved, etc.

All the above, and, well you're kidding yourself if you think someone can't pick out a number of things that led to that off.
Rokkit 09-24-2010 08:30 AM

Ok I'm sure all the "Racing Tips" Pat has got over the past years are enough. Stop trying to analyze what he did wrong and just drop it. I keep reading different people's ideas of what he did and it enrages me.

Perhaps Pat should not come out and ask for it then.

What is wrong with IFLYSOLO's video? I think the voice we hear is his instructor, right? The driver isn't calling out driving tips or narration.

That video does a great job of showing how poorly setup the pit out location is for that track. Wow.
Psychoreo 09-24-2010 03:18 PM

Wow, sorry to stir the pot yet again, that was not my intention. This has been beaten to death. Mistakes were made 10 years ago and he has learned a lot since then.

I thought it was interesting to see that the video I watched in this thread made it to such a list.
civicseth 09-24-2010 05:33 PM

Dang, I fail. Oh well. Just relaying what I saw just an hour prior to seeing this. :P
SurfWagon 09-24-2010 06:46 PM

I think the obvious problem was when he approached the apex....he didn't notice the little green gnome hiding in the grass.

It's been ten years, no more commentary is needed.
