Installation???

I don't usually do any installing that requires cutting wires and rewiring parts that are crucial to the car. You do not have to remove the needles on this install, but you do have to rewire the pod to make the indiglo work. I will keep you posted.

BrysImpreza 12-16-2001 12:16 PM

Omio, mine are on the way!
Was it a pain in the ass to get them over the Trip Odometer reset button and then over the needles?
Also, did you have to take off the needles?
Thanx alot!
Bry.
theGrideimpreza4u 12-16-2001 01:18 PM

bry if u read in the thingy on ebay before u bought it says u dont have to take needles off just slide them over. also i put indiglo on a 95 mustang gt before and i had to take the needles off that was a very big mistake on my part i had to sit there for 3 hrs trying to reset the computer so whatever u do do not take off the needles. i am so happy and thrilled that they finally made these for the L and wagons cant wait im getting impatient lata greg
BrysImpreza 12-16-2001 05:49 PM

Ya, but I don't always believe what I read, I'm more concerned on how to line up the trip odometer reset button with the needle and not snap either, right now I'm really not seeing how that will be all that easy.

Installation

I did not install tham myself because I did not want to mess up the cluster. As I said with the pictures the guy that installed them dropped my temp gauge and broke it. The nob for the dimming and color change got mounted right below the ignition switch. Unfortunatley it does not light up, but that is okay. The glow of the gauges can be distracting at night until you find the right brightness. I took the picture with them at there lowest setting for brightness. You do NOT have to take off the needles to do the install, but be carefull with the speedometer because there is nothing holding the wiring into the back so it will take a little to get it back connected so that it will stay connected. Overall the guy said that it was an easy install, but I did have to go back twice because of wiring problems. Just be very careful as it is kind of tricky to install. If you have any other questions please let me know.

White faced Indiglo (Blue/Green) gauges

So how many of you ' 98-up GC8 guys would like white faced Indiglo gauges for your car?

We'll be doing a production run of 100 sets for '98-'01 GC8 in mp/h and km/h.

IIRC, the GC8 gauges are the same as the Forrester right?

(We'll be doing them for the Legacy BD/BG and also BE/BH)
mandy 12-23-2001 09:18 PM

that's what I had for mine too , for the detail please look here

gauges for center gauge pod

Where can I get indiglo gauges for my performance gauge set and who makes them. Also is it possible to replace the needle in my steering collumn gauge with an indiglo needle? let me know :)

Glen
Jazz95 12-26-2001 12:45 AM

Got mine today for Xmas, and installed them myself. Everything was great until I started the car and took it for a spin. The instructions told me I had to take off the needles, so I did. The gas and temp gauges work fine. The speedo is off by 10 and the tach is stuck on 2500rpm...how do I reset them? I didn't wire them up because I wanted to check here first. Should have checked before I did anything...oh well...hindsight is always 20/20.

Gotta reset the cluster!! How do I do that?

Indiglo Guages

anybody have a pic of these in a 2002 WRX? Thanks
REDOO2000 12-26-2001 07:43 PM

i put mine in today
took 20 min.
very nice looking except for the cheasy switch
ill post pics soon
Those Meddling Kids 12-26-2001 08:20 PM

For the tach just play with it a little until it doesn't stick. If that doesn't work than remove the needle and re-install so the needle points to zero. This is because it should be at zero when the car is off. The needle should move freely and when you move it up (with the engine off) and then should fall gently back to zero. When you start the car the needle should move smoothly to the idle RPM level. For the speedo its the same. You will have to try it a few times but you should be able to get it back close to stock by trial and error. Your only other option is to take it to the dealer.

I want MY98 indiglo

Reverse indiglo for MY98 would be great. I'm not sure if they are the same as the forester, but I know they are different then MY99 RS and above. To whoever makes these please make sure to measure the odometer correctly, that is the major problem with all indiglos claiming to fit MY98. Buyers beware of those selling indiglo gauges claiming to fit 97-01, they don't. MY 98 have a different gauge cluster than the other years.

what color is the needle?
BrysImpreza 12-28-2001 06:06 PM

Here's mine!
[IMG]http://members.i-club.com/UserPics/2863/indiglos.jpg[/IMG]

Here's a tip to make it go easier!
When putting the Speedo guage face on, turn the needle to 80 mph, slip the hole over the needle while putting the trip odometer pin into the hole.
Do not force it on or the needle will snap! Slide it down and line it up.

Bry.
Jazz95 12-28-2001 07:25 PM

Ok...gotta problem...

messed up my gauges. Now I have to either take it to the dealer and pay out the a** or go to a yard and try to get a new cluster.

I ruined two of the four gauges taking the needles off...

Let me make something clear here...

Those needles are not designed to be taken off. Any tampering should be done only by a certified tech...unless you know exactly what you are doing.

I used too much trial and error, and wound up ruining my cluster.

The problem is...

The tach won't stay in the "read" position...meaning that it works like a watch. Pull out the little knob on your watch, and the second hand stops and you can alter the time...push it back in to resume timekeeping.

Only problem with the gauges is...if you push them in too far...the pin won't be in the correct position, and there's no non-hairbrained way to get them back to normal.

Too much force causes the pin to break, and they cannot be easily glued or anything...so don't think that if you break one you can fix it. One broken pin means a new cluster for your subie.

I'm not a mechanic myself, but I've asked two different master mechanics about it, and they both told me the same thing. If you want to have your gauges altered in any way besides putting in a new cluster altogether, get a professional to do it.

I guess I'm off to the junkyard to find another cluster...if no luck there then I guess I'll be shelling out $150+ for a new cluster at the dealer...Good luck to those who haven't installed theirs yet...kudos to those who did theirs correctly.

oh yeah...this sucks!!!!!!!!1:( :monkey:

BrysImpreza 12-28-2001 10:00 PM

Thats why the directions say (Import Cars Only) DO NOT REMOVE NEEDLES!

You're going to be better off going aftermarket for new gauges, just buy some new gauges that all match and make up a template or just go to a junkyard for a 1993-1998 Impreza L Gauge assembly also try www.car-parts.com

Good luck and read the directions a little closer next time

Bry.
vividracing 12-28-2001 10:36 PM

We have the indiglo gauges, email us for pricing.
mandy 12-28-2001 11:17 PM

what kind you have ??? any pic ??
BrysImpreza 12-29-2001 12:33 AM

Mandy, just look on e-bay, search for "Impreza" and like 30 will come up, they're like $39 there and I've seen them up close, they are nice! Get them from e-bay user "Xenon-Xenon", that's Initial K who is one of the only places who makes indiglos for the Impreza 93-02

Bry.
mandy 12-29-2001 01:21 AM

I had mine form e-bay !! they don't fit !!! I want something new for the 02 WRX !!!
BrysImpreza 12-29-2001 12:02 PM

The ones from "Xenon-Xenon" will fit, we just put them into my friends 2002 WRX Sedan last week and they are a perfect fit.
Just don't get the ones that claim to fit "97-02" The 97 is the same as 1993-1997, the 98-2001 is different and the 2002 is something all it's own, those guys don't know what the hell is up, it's "[email protected]", he doesn't know his ass from his elbow when it comes to the Impreza.
Bry.
Jazz95 01-02-2002 12:21 AM

I read the directions...the only problem was I couldn't fit the faces over the needles. I wasn't sure if the indiglo would stop working if I cut a slit in the face...so I took the needles off. I guess next time I should ruin the gauge faces instead of the needles...:o
They're cheaper to replace...

WRX indiglo gauge cluster?

On ebay, ive been seeing a series of these new color changing indiglo gauge clusters, (show here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=599917932&r=0&t=0 ), does anyone have pics of em in the car? they look very hondaish to me, but just to be sure im not missin out on somethin good, i just wanted to see some pics of what they actually look like in the car. Personally, i want the STi gauges (with the shift indicator) tha isr performance is selling, but just wanna make sure im gettin what is best. If anyones got any pics, plz post.
Thx,

Indiglo WRX Gauges

Do indiglo gauges exist for the 2002 WRX? I have found them for the 2.5 RS, but not the WRX. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I would prefer that they be in MPH no KmPH.

Thanks for the help.
NoLimitWRX 01-10-2002 12:07 AM

yup,
you can find them on ebay
WRXGuyInUSA 01-10-2002 03:30 AM

You can get them from:

www.vividracing.com

or:

www.procarparts.com

There ya go... E-bay is another solution too...
STEVESblueWRX 01-10-2002 08:20 AM

YES YOU CAN

Yes, you can get them on ebay I paid $52 including shipping!!! They fit perfect and look even better.
mongoos79 01-10-2002 10:28 AM

Thanks Guys- I appreciate it.
128d 01-10-2002 10:40 AM

STEVESblueWRX- I the the ones on Ebay had a flaw with the "Check Engine" light.
sclothier 01-10-2002 11:18 AM

can someone please post a picture of the gauges at night? I'd like to see how they look with the white face before i decide to buy them.

thanks

scott
STEVESblueWRX 01-10-2002 01:36 PM

they have the flaw

But to me a flaw is something that doesn't let the gauges work properly. You can still see the orange light up the little engine symbol everytime you start the car. I think for the price they are worth it.
mandy 01-10-2002 02:17 PM

I've that too.....

I've mine on ebay too, pic are here
so far I'm not so happy with it.
WRacerX 01-10-2002 05:05 PM

Since this is now the combo/mondo gauge face thread, any word on the new faces for the WRX supposedly being developed by SYMSWRX's friend ?????
SYMSWRX 01-10-2002 09:58 PM

don't worry , the gauges my friend was doing is on the way , I would say 2 weeks from now , we'll post the pic and price once it arrive. The reason we take that long is we have the same mistake like the other one selling out there while we have the sample made, but we change it back to what it should be, that's why it takes a little longer, but well... you guys want the gauge to be prefect right ??
