If you don't like the mulitcolor lighting check out the new Legacy GT. Red everything. Looks VERY nice and is quicker than a WRX. :D

you'd pay a premium, but you could just buy the parts from Subaru. Or find a wrecked one somewhere and buy the interior. It should swap easily enough, though.

I sat in a friend's '05 STi tonight. That interior is gorgeous compared to the '02 model WRX. Good god, it's like an entirely different car (well, it is...). Everything just fits better, the car feels more solid and it feels like it's actually worth the money.
| WRX8XB | 10-20-2004 01:50 AM |
oh well to each his own,
I love the 02-03 interior (except the front seats) it works well with the car all black (except roof liner and a pillars and b pillars and c? pillars o and some blue accents)...ok i like the lay out and the controls, ah whatever Momo steeringwheel!!

What is the deal with this multicolor stuff you're talking about? There are basically 2 colors in the 05 interior: green and red. There are also a few orange lights on the dials, but they're not always on, and orange is close to red IMO. Basically everything is the light green color, except the needles on the gauges which are red. I fail to see how the interior colors aren't coordinated together. Green is the central theme, and it is apparent on both the center console and the gauges. Am I missing something?

Shift Knob, XM satelitte redio unit with a nice clean mount. Getting STi Shifter trim. It has the factory carbon fiber trim. Umm I cant remember what else right now.

But you also own an 04 STi according to your profile, not an 05 one, right? I thought people were bitching that they didn't bother to correct the multicolor stuff in the 05, but I don't think this is true. Also, the 04 seats looked similar to me, but the fabric seemed different, so I'd guess they're new seats. I could have been imagining things... =P

Yeah. Premium package was $1500 MSRP, came with spoiler, moon roof, heated seats and heated mirrors, and wiper de-icer. I basically just got it for spoiler and moon roof, but heated stuff might be nice for snowboarding, who knows.

the 04 and 05 seats or not identical. They are very similar, but there is a slight difference in the pattern used. It is much more clearly identifiable if you look at the door inserts/panels. Look at those side by side and you'll see the difference. 05's look a bit more like a checkerboard i suppose.

i think it will fit, but you will need to replace more than just the silverish bezel pieces, you will need to replace the sides of the center console, and maybe even teh part all the way down to the ebrake?

From the looks of it you should be able to swap it all over, but that is just me having had both, what side is the WRX ebrake in the MY05? My MY05 STi has it on the drivers side, wasn't the MY02 and MY03s on the passenger side? I'm goin blank so im not sure.

The interior matches the price. The 05's center console would have matched more if it was darker or even black like the IS300's.
The steering wheel IMHO could have been a little meatier, I'm taking mine out and replacing them with some OMP's

You guys might need to consider the side mirror control unit as well. The mirrior controls on the 2005s are on the door, while 02-04 mirror controls are beside the handbrake. So if you do a swap with a 05 to your 02-04, you might have to cut a hole for your controls. Also, the location of the handbrake lever might not be the same as well.
| imprezive one | 11-12-2004 02:13 AM |
mattjk... did you do the conversion? or is that just a pic of an 04? I'm confused!
| spitfirezip100 | 11-12-2004 02:59 AM |
I'm more of a fan of the 02 interior (well I drive an 02 sorry for being biased) but it's more like I'm not a fan of most new car interiors which is one reason why I chose the 02 wrx... I like the more defined lines of the interior of the 02 of the HVAC and stereo(the cutoff to black underneath the knobs) the 05 looks like everything is on a single plane and makes the center console look too long as it extends down past the shifter.. also the vents are too upfront and need to be recessed more with more contours around the hazard lights button.. like in the older wrx... there is too much silver on the new HVAC.. the steering wheel leaves something to be desired... (not really a fan of the strange three spoke steering wheels with a circular section for the center i know that it is necessary to be that large for the air bags) but they look strange in my opinion...
I don't know if I'm the only person, but I like the older style interiors with more sharper cutoffs and defined lines... My dad used to own an aircraft and the cockpit was completely no-nonsense with sharp cutoffs and gauges everywhere(it was beautiful in my eyes... I like gauges.. lol) or perhaps I don't like fancy stuff like the chromeing around the knobs on the stereo and silvered door handles... (I used to drive a stick 1986 toyota camry- lol-plenty of sharp cutoffs here and there with a no-nonsense(cheap) interior-I loved that car(it was my first-being biased again)) although I like the nonadjustable headrest seats more than the 02 seats with adjustable headrests) looks more like racing seats with the passthrough for a racing harness??..

Yeah, I hate the new window controls / buttons on the driver's side door. Cheap as heck looking compared to the other controls in the car.
The e-brake is almost assuredly not mounted the same. 02-04 had the handbrake closer to the passenger, while the 05 STi i just had for a bit had it a LOT closer to the driver. I didn't take up the center console area, so I'm not sure what may be involved to relocate your ebrake handle over.

I made a deal when I bought my car that they throw in the arm rest ex. I got it two weeks after I drove off the lot. Had to fight with them to get it. Good thing I made them put it in the IOU paperwork or they probably would have screwed me. It sucked w/o because my arm was always hanging and it bothered my sholder. It is kinda ugly, but much more comfy and my arm never hits it while shifting.
