Meullerized EVO 8 wreck part 3

recce02 08-26-2006 03:31 AM
The cage was completely welded, I think we're going to have the car up here at the shop soon. Give Mr. Brock a call, maybe week after next, and we'll get you a look-see at the offending joint. If you are interrested

Thanks, I talked to travis and then I looked at the video again. I watched the video 4 times and paused to make sure what I was looking at. It wasn't until Travis pointed out that there is a pad there. But once he said that I watched again and saw that it is indeed a pad. My bad, but being a racer myself I look at the small things and I think it was just the shadow that hid the pad from plane view.
As far as the driving goes, I have been caught out also. Not to the point of getting knocked the f out but close. Stuff happens especially when learning. If anything is learned it should be that if you are going to play then make sure your car is equipped. Your driver only got knocked out, imagine a car with no cage!!!! Good luck and make sure to give Travass a swift kick to the balls.
Peace out

There is no hatred here Evo/STi it doesn't matter...I just want to see both become more competitive in things like hmmmmmmmmm Speed GT. I see on evloutionM you guys may have been showing some interest. I know ESX and Gary have done 1 event and are doing another.

It would be great to have both the STi and evo compete competitively there. Although last year Volvo sucked although this year they are much more competitive. SO hopefully someone will get more backing and do a full season and hopefully get a fair turn from the Speed GT people.

I know Subaru probably won't factory back a team and Mitsubishi sure as hell won't in their financial position.

Its funny cause Volvo can back a two car team....and look at their sales geographic age group and sales overall...

Would be sweet though to beat up on Vipers, Porsches, Caddys, and Vettes. Would be nice to get some Japanese cars in the mix.

Wow... I understand that was the 1st lap... but totally blowing turns like that?

They were unable to make start this weekend due to something breaking so they might stop talking about this win streak too.

BTW The car that won was a fairly stock 1986 Porsche 928. The former Al Holbert car that set land speed records for it's class and was the IMSA safety vehicle for a while.

Wow. The Muellerized driver missed more gates than Bode Miller after bombing a half case of Camo40.

RRE CP/I-speed, what Teins were on the car again?

According to the in-car video from the STi driver... "That crappy Tein s1ht".

Way to go boys. Let's blast a rather respected company on video thinking you're better then they are. I can't wait to see if you're going to offer Tein products.

And then Muellerized car owner you can hear off camera "Yeah, I know".

So here we have two companies bashing Tein.

I can tell you one thing, there are some good Tein products and marginal Tein products on the lower end of the price scale. The good ones will spank the Buddy Club and JICs that Muellerized re-sells. Most people know that JIC has quality issues (breaking in 1/2 from the side load). I haven't heard much of anyone saying anything about Teins quality.

I'm not even gonna get into Buddy Club.

At least Mullerized also re-sells Ohlins and Motons. So they have that going for them.

But that's quite unprofessional for companies to be bashing other products... both Crawford & Muellerized. There's no reason for that. Yes, people *DO* pay attention to what is said on camera.

so someone isnt allowed to have an opinion just because its on camera?

He probably said that they are crappy ***** because....they..are......crappy *****.
I know of zero club racers who use tein, and a lot who have tried them. Shock dynos on the higher end line isnt too hot either, and they cant handle any kind of real race spring rates.
great for the street bling, not great for a racetrack
RobY 09-06-2006 09:04 PM

Looks like he went more than "1 wheel off" early apexed, then drove straight off the track. He didnt even start loosing control until half the car was on the grass.

Nevertheless **** happens... Im glad the driver is alright. Mark one up to a learning experience albeit an expensive one.
so someone isnt allowed to have an opinion just because its on camera?
It's not professional to hear from a vendor that sells a competing product (in Muellerized case) or from a company that is also going to be selling susupension products (Crawfords page says 'coming soon'). If I were Tein and approached by either to re-sell their product (OTS or Customized) I'd laugh and hang up.

They're in the public eye. Is that some kind of formal 'review' of the product? "That Tein crap"? He doesn't even go as far as to say what kind of Teins he had. (And it was asked earlier in this thread)... for all we know they could be the low end of the spectrum.

Don't mistake me as defending Tein. They have some decent product out there... and they can be revalved JUST LIKE all them high end dampers to match your 'race' spring rates. The off-the-shelf applications are just that... generic. You have to customize almost anything to get them to match your application.

I'd bet money they were Tein Flex. And while they're a decent entry-level street/track setup for the price, they really are kinda crappy. I've ranted on these boards about their lack of travel to no end. Their out-of-box settings are also poo, and there's no-one to blame for that but Tein. But I still run them on my car because shelling out for something better isn't at the top of my pri list right now. And I have to admit, they are also faster at the track than stock struts with STI pinks (probably mostly the camber and spring rates, though).

If you notice, the driver said something about dynoing 500-something at the wheels (), and when you're talking about race tires, that much power, and competetive time attack.... Yeah, Tein are crap, there's no way around it. SRCs might have a chance, but if you're competing against someone on Motons, there's just no way.

I think some Teins should be fine. For instance, Prova Racing (the group that campaigns STIs in Japan's Super Taikyu series), got a 2nd place in class and 14th overall in the 24 Hour Nurburgring racing using a STi on Tein's Super Racing Coilovers (for $3.5k they better be worth something). Although, I'm 100% sure they were custom valved.
