You don't need that stuff as there are no times on Pinks. You are launching from a arm drop, no times just who crosses the finish line first. Just like Stroudsburg Airport runs, it's a grudge race
Yea but you need one guy to be the so-called figurehead even if he doesn't have all the power. Otherwise it's a mess dealign with all the stuff... in regard to talking to the show, that is.
Personally I think it's STUPID tough to do. Little things you won't figure... blowing out a rear diff, blowing out axles (DSS axles are $1000 front/$500 rear), gotta find a shop for a cage. I don't think you wanna build a 9 second car... because they you need a better cage, possibly a chute if you trap 145 i think it is.. more and more cost. you really need the support of a shop that has built drag cars before, as most of the competitors on teh show had.
I know a shop that has built 9 second cars we have the tubes for the cage all we need is a welder, I understand the figurehead thing, i think that should be the guy that started the thread gc835 if he is willing, or someone who knows what to do in relation to the show
who cares if we break, we will test the car before we take it, I would suggest make about 10 passes to get the car dialed in before we take it, and even if we do break we did something and have something to show for it, more than sitting on our asses all year, and a chute isnt a big problem
and who says we wont get sponsored? Everyone throw in 5 bucks and ask all the shops we know and companys we buy from for help were bound to get something if the can advertise on the car

thats a good point so we dont need a chute but a roll cage is still neccisary, its not worth killing someone, and all we need is a welder to make one so its not like its really that much of an extra burden
O and money wise i was thinking a pay pal account where everone tips in a few bucks i mean really how much is 5 or 10 bucks to everyone here, and if everyone gives up some old parts if we dont use em we could e bay them or sell them on here for money

-2.0 RA block
-built heads
-front mounted GT42R turbo (outback motorsports headers)
-alcohol fuel
-cage
-stripped L chassis
-fuel cell + twin pump
-Justy radiator
-15in rims + stickies
-**** the brakes
-WAIC
-twin 1000-1200cc injectors
-40-50psi of boost (E98 WILL SUPPORT THIS!)
-Mark Ringleman's auto tranny (1)
I'm not kidding. I think too many big egos make this too complicated. Aside from parts and labor, there's just time. Aside from building this, I need a trailor and truck to tow it with. 10k into the car isn't a problem...the truck and trailor is my hold up!!!

how about the OP starting a list of parts/services needed, people willing to help (once a build site is chosen), the time limit allowed on the build by pinks, what sponsors have hopped on to help and any other things i missed. this would make it much easier to check on the threads progress.
overall i think it would be a great idea to have a forum built car on there representing the subaru community. i would definitely pitch in a few bucks to make it happen. as someone said before, we must know what the guidlines are for pinks and our possible challengers like i-club or evom or maybe a privateer with a subie or evo.
make sure to keep us all updated

why Garret GT series? They're expensiev... a 42R is like $2300 i think. Look into maybe Precision Turbos or similar. Built auto tranny... taht sounds expensive, too. In theory it doesn't sound too hard though...

gt 42 too much lag without nitrous. it might get pulled during pre race negotsiasions. sorry i cant spell.
organization is key. maybe put 2-3 people in charge this way there is atleast some seperation of power. we need lists of donated parts, a build list of what need to be done and what parts are needed etc. a list of money donations.
lets do it guys.whats the forum evo.net??

If you lose you really LOSE your car. Its not a joke, Justin Bircham was on one episode in a mustang. The one where the other car broke the driveshaft and got one from some car in the parking lot. Well Justin won the car and didnt even give the driveshaft back he just loaded it up in his trailer and called it a day.

We have to get this in order
im going to keep an updated list of what parts we have
and if i have time i will also write a letter of what i think we should send out to sponsors

The most often citied reason for project failure is ill-defined requirements and objectives. ;)

Here is a quick version of the letter i think we should send to companys to gain sponsorship, Dont flame it, i think we should write something like this, please give your input.
Dear Company,
We are writing you today as a community of car enthusiast asking for your help. We are a community of Subaru enthusiasts, that are members to one of the largest car forums on the internet, North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club or NASIOC. The reason that we ask for your help today is because we are your customers that are your business and your lively hood. We are the ones that put your companys name on our cars out of pride, so people will know to buy your quality parts. We are asking for you to give us something in return, a donation. I am sure you are wondering why we are asking for a donation and why you should give it to us. I am sure you are wondering what is in this donation for you. If you help us achieve our goal we will allow you to advertise on our car on national television. No not some small sticker that no one will notice, we will give you the hood, the trunk, or some other part of the car that will get your company noticed It will basically be a solid hour with your name on national television for all to see. What better way is there to get your companys name out there than on the most popular car show on television today. We are going to be appearing on the most popular car show on television Pinks. It is a show where you race for pink slips against another car. It is one of the most watched shows on television today. We as a community of car enthusiasts are building a car that will hopefully win on this show with our own money, but we can not do it on our own as building a race car tends to be a little bit pricey. We have turned to you for the source of our parts in the past and will continue to do so in the future but now we need your help. So please take some time to consider all that we have given you in the past and give us a little back. We promise it will pay off in the end.
Sincerely,
-The NASIOC Community

That's another touchy area. We/they/he contact the producers and they will set a deadline. I've heard of them giving extensions, but a short deadline will be another obstacle to overcome.
this is a tricky can of worms isn't it.

10k ain't squat for building a Subaru. Luckily a lot of donations are being made but a 4EAT is downright EXPENSIVE!!

WELL, truth of the matter is.. this will all most likley suck without a PR- And PR's cost loads. I'm saying someone prove me wrong because it would take a lot of motivation to get around this without one/
