Yeah, driver aids are wienie and they'd be the first thing I turned off in a real car. I figured I had a few days to make a fast run so I just decided to jump in and drive. I saw a couple of 1:48 times and wanted to know where I stacked up.
And I sure understand the difficulty in lining up consistent fast laps. I certainly wasn't banging out 1:45s lap after lap. Put a rear tire off..."well crap, there goes that fast lap."
its cool I am just giving you a hard time, but your 1:45 is smoking. I was pulling consistent 1'47:XX but kept making mistakes that stopped me from making a faster run and got good and frustrated lol

As far as driver aids go, I will agree with an earlier poster on the idea that we should be able to "tune" what ever is adjustable on the vehicle as the challenge is set up.
ps....... I hate those damn driver aids.
Personally, I'd leave this as the ONE thing you can tweak. I am much faster with them all turned off, especially in an underpowered car like a stock miata. On the other hand, try driving something like the TVR with no driving aids, good f'ing luck
Other folks may have their best times w/ the aids on. In my experience they won't be the fastest times over all, but whatever. It's up to them.
I'm pretty much in agreement with this. Feel free to adjust driver aids, weight ballast, or anything else that comes stock.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't much of a difference in each mode. I would assume everyone would just run Practice, though, since there's other cars on the track to get in your way in a club meet. Actually, I don't see how that would be preferable at all.
Anyone else know?

I would be for driving aids. People get different times with different settings, so I don't think it provides an explicit advantage. If anything, making it 'no' would favor those who prefer that setting.
Regarding the argument that it is the most 'realistic'...well, although it is good for a video game, it is still a video game. In my opinion, it helps make up for some of the flaws, such as not being able to feel the car/pedals, and the other laws of physics that are ignored, bent, etc. For the record, although on, I keep the settings low.

Now if only the seating position made the driver...

Seriously though, that's a really good time. I did 30 laps today and got down to a 1:45.6, I'm pretty sure I can get into the 1:44's if I can put together a clean lap. Not sure where I can find 2 seconds though, heh.

Man, I suck.
I just stopped playing. Did about 25 runs and called it a night.
I know there was at least another second in there...
But 1:43??? :furious:
That must be crazy cutting the corkscrew and cutting the gentle left up the hill before the corkscrew...
Man...
Video please. Haha.
I thought I was decent, but dang. I guess I'll have to try all day tomorrow. Haha.
At least we all got beat by a great man though.
(On a side note, it was Gary Sheehan's lap times in that challenge that kept sending me back to the drawing board to figure out how to go faster... I probably had to drive 200 laps over the course of a week before getting the one in the video... Gary's retarded good at GT4 time trials... he was within a half a second of my time after like 5 laps. )
these are the rules I use on my local Boston-motorsports forum, Just a suggestion. I will be trying this tonight.
Here are a few other guidelines from the GTPlanet forums.
1. Always have 2 tires on the track at all times.
This means that 2 tires, both from the same side of the car (left/right), not front or back, will be allowed to go off the pavement while the other 2 remaining tires stay on the pavement.
2. Rumble strips are considered part of the track.
This goes with rule #1 and that your 2 tires that must be on the track can be on the rumble strip and still be considered legal.
3. No wall contact or wall riding.
4. No hybrids.
This means that you can not alter your car in any way other than what has been specified by the races host.
5. If AI cars are involved in a race, contact with them should only be allowed if it does not give the racer an advantage.

I just turned a 1min 44.5xx lap using no driver aids. I was able to take a pic right after I passed the finish line, similar to the one that MattDell posted at the start of this thread.
One question - during the process of doing these hot laps, the time display on the upper right hand corner went blank and my best time and last lap time were no longer displayed. If I switch to another car (e.g. 350Z) the times are displayed again, but whenever I go back to the miata it's not there. Anyone know how I can get it back? My ghost shadow also disappeared as well...

I THINK that the cars get slower the more driving assists you turn on, but don't quote me on that.
That being said, my opinion stands to let the option open of whomever that wants to turn it on/off may do so. Turning it on limits performance a bit but gives you more stability.
Personally, driving aids are for wimps

Seriously, 12 laps?!
I think my PS2 stopped updating fastest lap in the upper right corner on lap 60.

I got it down to a 1:44.580, but I see lots of better times posted... oh well. I know I left time from turn 5 through the corkscrew and turn 10.

My best. I could squeeze out better time here and there, but not in one complete lap. :(

My game won't record the time anymore... Can someone tell me how to fix it?
It just stopped timing all of a sudden, even after I reset. :(
edit: The timing part works fine, but it won't record my lap times.
