Max's new plan for WRC?! part 3

Dark 10-18-2004 03:58 PM

I think the F1 or WRC's spending is not totally out of control, if you think back a few years ago when McLaren was very competitive with Ferrari or even beat them in 1 or 2 season. At that time no one thinks Benz is a fast lux car, but now that they bring what they learn from the F1 to their mass production cars. Many of you would agree that they are one of the fasterst lux car manufacturer. The sales of benz must have go up in this few years, atleast is very close to BMW. Also since when racing is a cheap sport. If the manufacturer dont want to spend on the racing. You bet that manufacturer is not serious with their cars ie(SAAB). Those expensive spending is just a furture investment.

I think some reasons for the current situation is that there are only a few companies that make cars with 2 liter 4 engines and all wheel drive. Openning up the clase to more types or even having specialty typ cars might make sense if this is the case. Like F1, the engine makers and chassis makers are different. So maybe a subaru powered mclaren bodied car? I would hate to see something that different from the actual road car, but that's an idea to get a mix of manufacturers. Maybe have more ways to recognize a competitor, like road biking where you have a leaders jersey, king of the hill, sprinter etc. That way even guys who don't have a chance of winning are able to have some exposure for their sponsors and team. Just some rando ideas.

This should be a poll: who thinks the WRC was better before the FIA took over and started messing with things? Who doesn't? Who doesn't know what the hell we're talking about?

this cant be possible. if you talk about WRC, those cars are relate to mass production cars. Which means from build to finish it should come from 1 manufacturer. I.E. you won't see a MITS+SUBY STI or SUB+MITS EVO WRC car, that just dont make sence. if you talk about F1, well is possible but not likely or it wont go far. Because those car manufacturers are very top in the industry, is not like a average car manufacture can do much to the F1 car.I.E Subaru or Mitsubish. You talking about a engine that can rev to 20k and race for 50 some laps. but if Honda and Toyota team they might have a chance, but i highly doubt it. Besides if what you said happen xxx manufacturer helps mclaren on certain parts and they actually wins, what do you think the press think of mclaren. Cant they do that on their own?
what you will see are breaks, tires, fluids, investors stickers on the race car

What I was getting at was that in that situation, there are more than just a single make representing a car. Instead, March, Mclaren etc. like companies can showcase their technology and private firms can more fairly compete with manaufacturers and each other. Maybe have a class for trucks. That way, all those suv makers can compete in rally, but in their own class.
Dark 10-20-2004 04:02 PM

if you talking about introduce different class to rally, they have, but i dont know the name of the event. The one where dirt bike, car, truck cross country rally race

Hahahaha :D:D:D And ya thought that SUV's roll eqasy now??? Wait till someone starts throwing them down sandy/gravel roads at 70+mph .... WRC is no place for SUV's... <------------- IMHO

screw it... If I worked in Subaru I would modify the legecy platform to enter it in Dakar... hehe
nos 10-21-2004 12:54 PM

Exactly, but I think paris-dakar is a little too different for my taste, since the days of the porsche 959 and peugeot 205 turbo 16 etc. As for the statement for the trucks rolling, obviously they would be prepped for the course. Try hitting a prorally race, and you will see some trucks in them. I think they should do well in something like the safari rally, since that race is just brutal on the cars.

My favorite off-roader:

I love rally.. but it doesn't hold a candle to this off-road..:)

Well, it would if the rules where as loose as the ones for the truck races like Baja. But of course in those desert truck races, you don't have to have razor sharp handling to avoid trees and spectators etc. But yeah they get great air.

  Whoah.. you need to watch more off-road races.. believe me, there are plenty of places where razor sharp handling is necessary...Baja races in Mexico are akin to WRC in Europe.. people line the street like they were getting free tickets to a Soccer game...

To put it in some perspective: In WRC they race for ~20minutes at a time at high speeds.. Baja's are raced for HOURS at a time at equivalent speeds...

I'm not saying WRC is crap at all.. just adding some perspective..:)

well, What I was getting at is that the rules are looser than WRC for how far the suspension, egine can be changed from the factory car. As for the races themeselves, I usually see them blasting through desert next to each other, not necessarily having to follow a spactator lined road. But yeah, I have not seen a whole lot of those races, but the ones I have seen like the baja truck races etc. give me those impressions.
