Pete's podium prediction:
1. McRae
2. Makinen
3. Solberg
Just guessing of course. I know Makinen is a favorite but I can't see him running away with it in a new car and temp co-driver. But this is rally, anything can happen right? I think Solberg is gonna do very well this season. If both Subaru's place in the points I'll be happy.

I think Colin's infamous run of bad luck will continue, and that Tommi will win his 4th(?) Monte in a row.
1. Makinen
2. Gronholm
3. Sainz

As much as I hope Tommi and Petter kick ass...
1. Gronholm
2. McRae
3. Tommi
4. Burns
5. Petter
6. Puras
Can't wait to see how everyone does, espesically Mitsubishi. Also very excited to see what Jesus can do in an Impreza WRC!
Hopefully no one will make any year-predictions judging by the results of the Monte Carlo Rally. It's kind of hard to judge anything by what happens at Monte Carlo
Best of luck to all the teams and drivers.
Go Subaru!!!

Not sure i told you, but i'll be there you know. :D:lol:
Can't wait to go now, i am definately doing some work out there now so thats double cool working on the Monte. Can't tell you what till i get back but i am chuffed to bits. :D
You seen Waynes World where they are at the Alice Cooper concert flashing their passes about? thats me on the Monte that is. :D:lol:
OK, predictions.......
I have a funny feeling Tommi is gonna make this 4 in a row, followed by McRae and then Pinizi and Loeb scrapping for third. I think we will then see Burns, Gronholme and Sainz having a scrap for the next places with maybe Petter.
The Monte is an oddball event, i think Tommi and Colin will be the stars though.

John I hope you're right about Tommi, though after reading some of the recent interviews with him I wonder if, at 37, his heart is still in the game so to speak. Given that, the fact that he won't have Mannisenmaki co-driving, and the possibility that his confidence level with the Impreza isn't 100%, I'll stick my neck out and predict:
Sainz
Gronholm
Makinen
Solberg
Burns
Delecour
Ed
Sainz
Gronholm

Burns

Erm,
Don't ask me for a 1,2,3 - of course I'll be cheering for Tommi no matter, but I'm extremely interested in what Loeb will be able to pull out this time.
I don't know what it is but MAN it seems like he's going to be awesome :)

Tommi's heart is most definately in the game still - did you see the mans face driving the stages last year with a broken back ?
I reckon Tommi will take it - though I'd like to see Colin keep it rubber side down for once and get a good start to the season.

I just bought myself a new VCR (I didn't have a VCR, a functional one that is). I realized the Monte started this week and couldn't risk missing anything. I have it all programmed to automatically record. :D I've missed a few rally reviews last year. Since they're expanding the coverage I just had to get a VCR.
And to think I was this close to canceling my cable service. It was of course dependent on what Fox did with Speedvision. They did the right thing so far. And the Speedvision GT and Touring Car Championships will continue under a slightly revised name. That's the stuff I like to hear.

So while I was watching tonight, I couldn't help laughing at the fact that SpeedVision is now giving the U.S. The Full Monte... yuck yuck;)
Not sure how to take Lapworth's comment about Tommi being sort of like a new girlfriend...
Very cool coverage...
SSJ Char, no there was no actual racing today. It's sort of like qualifying, just gave the teams a little on-stage prep time. Obviously the show today was just a recap of last season, and a Newbie's Guide to World Rally. If they keep the little 1/2 hour preshow through the whole season (looks like they plan to) then I hope it becomes a little more of what the teams are actualy thinking as the race is starting... More footage of cars doing stuff today (not stock footage of last year) more thoughts from drivers about how they should do this weekend...
AND FOR GOD'S SAKE, don't show me what the drivers are doing on vacation this year!!! These guys have very little down time, they don't need a camera there to help them wipe.

Okay, gotta say it, just place this back at the end of the first stage: GO SAINZ!! .9 better than Makinen...
I do love that brit humor. I like how they describe Burns's run: "Reigning world champion Richard Burns got off a steady, if unspectacular start to his first rally with Peugeot. He was over 27 seconds slower than Sainz's time..." So going off the road after loosing control is merely unspectacular? I just hope they had a camera to catch that for broadcast tonight. Can't wait to see Richard's face as out the window you see the road departing stage left.
Bummer they canceled Sisteron. Apparently John Felstead was enciting a crowd of spectators. He had led them out onto the road, forcing the FIA to cancel the stage. Already being in the street, no dragging was needed and Felstead was just shot where he stood. :D
I gotta say, I LOVE the 'real time' coverage. Man it's cold out there!

Yeah, kinda sucks when your defending and perhaps hoping to go 2 in a row on the Driver's Championship, when the team your driving for makes it very public knowledge that all they care about is the Manu. Title. But hey how many times do you get to be the #1 driver driving the #1 car?
Peter is doing great. Glad to see Makinen doing well, but the suspense is killing me. I'm ready for Sunday to be done, just to see how the cookie crumbled...

SCOOBY P-2
I started a thread with this I should have just put it here in the first place Sorry.
World Rally hotshoe Sebastien Loeb was an unlikely, but very worthy leader at the end of the first Leg of the Monte Carlo Rally, with the young Swede's Citroen more than half a minute ahead of Subaru's Tommi Makinen in second place.
Loeb set convincing fastest stage times on the final two stages of the day and the reigning Super 1600 champion managed to pull out an impressive 17 seconds over the second fastest man Peugeot's Gilles Panizzi on the Leg's closing stage Puget-Toudon.
Despite a strong finish, the day did not start nearly so well for the PSA marques. Citroen lost both Thomas Radstrom and Philippe Bugalski due to engine blow-ups on their way to SS1, while Panizzi incurred a 130-second penalty for leaving a service area late before the first stage had even started.
However, the Frenchman did an admirable job to work his way back up to 14th overall by the end of the day.
Early leader Carlos Sainz was passed by his Ford team mate Colin McRae as last year's world championship runner-up got into his stride. Despite the Scot stalling on the start line of SS3, he finished the day in third spot.
Sainz struggled with a lack of power steering in his Focus WRC on the final stage of the day, but managed to move up to fifth by the close ahead of Petter Solberg's Subaru.
"It's always quicker for me on the second run through a stage as I can check my pacenotes," said Solberg. "It's a shame we didn't have one more run through the long stage [SS4 Sisteron-Thorad] because I think I could have been close to Loeb."
Marcus Gronholm was the highest-placed Peugeot driver in fourth sport and the 2000 world champion had the first moral victory over his new team mate and last year's title winner Richard Burns by finishing three places ahead.
I think I could have been close to Loeb
PETTER SOLBERG
Burns admitted before the event that he would be taking a softly, softly approach, but that didn't stop the Brit having a scary moment on SS1 when his 206 WRC ended up in a field. He only lost around 15seconds as he got back on the road, but finished the day a distant seventh.
Four runs over the famous Col de Turini await the drivers on Saturday and all eyes will be on Loeb, both to see if he can maintain his blistering pace and also to see if his Xsara T4 holds out. The young Frenchman had engine problems during Thursday's shakedown and with Radstrom and Bugalski retiring early, there will be several sets of fingers crossed in the Citroen camp.
Makinen has won the Monte three times before and cannot be discounted -neither can the weather. A tense battle awaits...

What's with Loeb....? Pretty good for a hotshot.
Yeah Tommi and Petter are doing well. Hope this duel can go steady in the rest of the season, take Manufacturer's Champ title from Peupeot (which has 4 cars and all famous drivers... )

Moving back up? Hmmm... moving back, anyway. On SS5, Burns finished 8th and lost time to Petter, who's in front of him (and probably really enjoying it).:)
Point taken, but he is 7th overall and could still finish in the points. I do hope Solberg stays ahead of him though.

PS: Hey, aren't you the oompa-loompa who waves at Foresters? ;)

That hyundai crash was insane. The car opened up like a sardine can, only sideways. yeah..
I must say, that was some wonderful coverage. The long long driving shots were mighty tasty. As was the front mounted camera with adjustable angle. Is there a guy with a joystick adjusting the direction of the camera? or what?
GO TOMMI!
Burns... hmm. I dont care about him anymore. I like his car tho.
Renaults are cool.
Why doesnt subaru make a awd hatch? that would be FABULOUS! They could call it the... uh... Justy or something. Just as long as its not too "swift"! Ha! :)
