In order to even capture 20,000 folks, a business plan must be drawn, a team need be already established, experienced race folks in place...the list goes on and on.
Hello,
There is indeed a team already established (Sheehan Motor Racing), with both a skeleton crew (off-season) and an expanded full crew (during the season), capable of preparing and racing in the top eschelons of professional racing. The full crew for a World Challenge or Grand Am effort includes team members who have raced and/or crewed in every venue from World Challenge to American Le Mans, on cars winning races, setting track records, turning fastest laps, etc.
The team campaigned a WRX in the US Touring Car Championship for 3 years, coming in second place in the championship each of those years.
And to aleviate the concern of the driver walking away, the driver is the team owner: Gary Sheehan.
As I've said before, we are not a fly-by-night operation. We are a top eschelon professional racing team.
This current effort on NASIOC, however, is something that Jeff/Buzz313th started, without mentioning it to us or Nick. We are very impressed with the response so far and quite happy to see everyone's enthusiasm, including that of those who are interested in other forms of motorsports. However, we cannot go forward with even providing a professional business proposal, so long as this effort is not approved of, by Nick.
Once enough people have shown an interest (Jeff feels that 500-1000 voters would be sufficient interest - that seems reasonable) AND Nick decides that this is appropriate, THEN we can discuss details and a plan.
Until then, as I said above, this is not much more than a small show of massive enthusiasm from Subaru racing fans. We need a massive show of at least small enthusiasm :)

Crap...I just responded and lost all of my typing....
Well, I'm not going to redo it....BUT...Of course I know who TeamSMR is and respect, admire and frankly have full faith in you guys. BUT, honestly, there has been no formalization in this thread as TeamSMR being THE team. Just the most obvious choice, if it ever got off the ground. The point I was trying to make, badly, was that if certain clarifications were actually made up front...the support would flood in much more significantly. People are less inclined to subscribe to something which has not even been created.
Heck, if it actually comes to fruition, I will bump my "donation" from $20 to $50.
I still like my T-shirt/window sticker idea....

I REALLY like the T-Shirt/Sticker idea ... "Co-Owner!"
We aren't allowed to Cross-Post ... so we are artificially being held back ... apparently deliberately ... on a topic that should and needs to go beyond the Motorsports Forum. It seems almost petty to restrict us in a matter that should be of great importance to Subaru of America.
Revolutions are started by such matters, ie. I-Club.
I wonder what a Suby Road Race car would look like covered in 1,000's of individuals names, plus NASIOC and Subaru!
Jamie/SubieGal, as far as I know, started this idea. Here is one of her NASIOC member "Co-Sponsors" pointing out his name on her car.

I think fans of Rallying and Drag racing Subies should individually help their favorite deserving drivers. Basically the idea is to simply help the Suby presence in motorsports. But since Subaru already has a big presence in Rallying and a well sponsored drag racing effort with EasyStreet ... we were hoping that the many road racing and auto crossing Suby fans would help get a higher end Suby road racing effort going.
What is surprising is that the many TOP Suby Auto Cross drivers on this forum haven't thrown their weight behind this effort. Many of us look up to these individuals for Suby leadership in our chosen form of economy road racing. We would hope that they would lead by example ... as their hard earned position typically dictates ...

Would a STi WRX be allowed?
I noticed Eligibility said that a Subaru 2004 WRX was, but didn't say whether it could be a STi or not.
The STi does seem to meet the requirements and would seem to be an ideal car.

Hello,
Great effort so far!
If NASIOC becomes officially involved in promoting this grassroots effort, that is, announcements, cross posts, and other such coverage, it will take some time and oversight by Nick and the moderators. While we're excited at the prospect, we know that the NASIOC infrastructure is already very busy. Moderating the threads and announcements will take a lot of time.
For that reason, we suggest that a small percentage of the overall funds raised (if we get enough support to start an effort) should go back to NASIOC, since NASIOC would be a sort of promotions head. What do you guys think?
Joel

Joe,
That sounds like a good idea.
I do understand that the "managers" of Nasioc are very busy. And if this effort can get past the first stage, something like that would be well deserved. I'm for it..

I need money for road racing my subaru too. Please let me solicit for cash on the board here, even though I'm not a vendor!

Alright I need to close this thread down. It really shouldn't have been posted in the first place. This is soliciting, and it's not something we like here on NASIOC because there is no real way to be sure the person asking for the donations is legit.
So please no more posts like this. You are welcome to ask about a new type of event and see what sort of interest people have, but nothing money related. That will have to be addressed off site.
EDIT: I've spoken with Jeff on the phone and I'm going to have a conversation with Joel tonight. Just to answer all the "where is Nick" questions. I was actually away on vacation and pretty well out of touch communication wise. I was only checking the site and reponsing to critical business stuff. Once I talk to Joel we'll see what we can do, but again my main beef with this thread is it sets a precident for "type of donation" posts on the forum I'm not entirely comformtable with. My primary concern is always to protect the members, and this is one of those precidents that in future threads could gone horribly wrong.
