Network Q - Rally GB... talk about it here!! part 2

Red-Impreza 11-18-2002 12:12 AM

Congratulations Petter!
Congratulations Petter Solberg on your first WRC rally win and on second place in the championship! Well done!

Of course, now we expect a championship next year.

(Edit/PS: Oh, and happy birthday!)

(PPS: ... and congratulations to Mark Higgins on 6th place. Kinda' gives us a good data point to compare WRC and SCCA.)

Oh gee, sorry for ruining it for you because you "taped it"

I waited until the coverage was over, so get over it

**sheesh**
pio!pio! 11-18-2002 02:30 AM

It's awesome that the only way Petter could realistically take 2nd in the driver's championship was for him to win the rally GB, and for Burns to retire....AND THATS WHAT HAPPENED!!! WHAT LUCK!!
sevenhead 11-18-2002 03:45 AM

Way to go Petter and Subaru! It's about time! Nice to see his enthusiasm and genuine joy.

You didn't ruin it for me. Somebody else did on the "General" board. I'm just looking out for others! :)

WHOOOO HOOOO! YAY PETTER!!

Man, that was the most intense Rally I've watched for a while. I was on the edge of my couch the entire time. Couldn't sleep after day two, Marcus was out and it was clear that Petter had a chance for his first.

I can't wait for next year. With Solberg's confidence, the new car, all the driver changes - Markko Martin being let off the leash. It's going to be an amazing year!
Subie Gal 11-18-2002 11:47 AM

A day in the Welsh Countryside
I spent a day in the Welsh countryside and ran into a bunch of Sunday Backroad Drivers. Fortunately they weren't from the Tri-State Forum.

Some (unenhanced) pictures from the Margam stages taken around post 22+. A series of tight but fast right and left handers.

Was it exciting? You bet ya! Well done Petter.

p.s. If you watch the WRC coverage of Australia Leg2, I'm on TV there with him while this picture was taken.

(I don't have one of him and my Mom though Will!)

Hi folks, just thought you might like to know that I live about 4 miles from main Rally GB service area in Swansea, South Wales, UK.:D

Also, news yesterday that Wales has secured the Rally GB for the next 4 and, possibly 9 years!

Followed the rally on tv, radio or PC for two days and was at the final 2 stages yesterday. The fireworks that were lit when Petter came through were amazing. Brilliant last days drive, not seen that often.

Can't wait for next year!!!

You were at Margam? Golly, you should have come up and said hi.

Wait until John Felstead posts his trip report, which will undoubtedly include pictures of my rental car stuck in a ditch (only damage was to my pride).

Glenn,

I wasn't sure if I would be able to make it so didn't have time to post a hook up. I'll be back next year and maybe try to get to the Spanish rally also. Will try to hook up to I-club members then.

My first WRC rally but not my last. For a true rally spectator experience I spectated from the forest and getting to the forest stage car parks was a mini rally experience ;) The photos I took were not great (low camera specs and facing the sun) but I got some great video of the cars wizzing past.

Despite the great weather, the Marshalls were commenting that the spectators were down - could have been the high ticket prices.

Never seen so many Subarus on the road in the UK.

Hi again,

gibjer - no offence taken, hope you had a good sleep!

Red-imp - 10/10, my name is "Peter"

Rakman - your picture #26, I was in the crowd to the mid-left of the shot. Were you setting off the fireworks!!!! You must have been pretty close to them!!

rally of G.B.
I just got back from the rally of G.B. by the way burns and Gronholm wrecked out. I drove into S. Wales on thurs from London and bought my event pass at the box office with no problems, for those who said it couldnt be done. I stayed in Bristol which is about a 30 minute drive to Cardiff. I have lots of pics, so I will post them when I get them developed. I had a ton of fun partying on St. Marys St. on Cardiff just down the street from Rally H.Q. I would suggest this rally to anyone who is apprehensive about going to other rally's in non english speaking areas. everyone I met was really cool. there were so many STi's and Lancer Evolutions I thought maybe they were giving them away, well maybe so, since gas is about 5 bucks a gallon.

Pleased you had a good time inthe Principality, next time you should stay in Cardiff or Swansea!

Next year is going to be better because "Wales" ( the country) is sponsoring the event. It'll be know as the "Wales Rally GB". On the map at last!!!

I want Petter to win. why not have his first ever WRC wim be after he has been doing so well. I know Gronholm wont crash becouse there is no reason for him to win and he can place top 3 with 1/4 effort it seems.

Erik S.
Wow i was right... Exsept for the part about Gronholm glad no one got hurt, kinda sucks.

Oh well... that's Rallying.

Erik S.

GO PETTER!!!
johnfelstead 11-19-2002 04:16 PM

Glenn:
So you had a mini rally experience :)

Pete:
I was right by the fireworks but I swear it wasn't me! And it wasn't me sounding the air horns there also. But I'll let you into a little secret - the two were connected - and I was partially deaf for a while.

Well, it wasn't quite as stuck until I tried to drive out and slid even further in. #@$%#$@ FWD cars... needed a Subie!

You think I would be experienced at reverse parking RHD cars (like my Escort) on the RHS of a street (like in the US), but no.

The tractor ride was fun!

Glenn

PS and it isn't like I've never got a Subie stuck either:
