New STX at Nationals News! 07/11/02 news, please read.

Just got off the phone with Howard from SCCA about STX this year at Nationals. What Jean Kinser Dana said is party true, but also party not true.
1) STX will start off with as part of SM at this years nationals

2) If there are LESS then 18 people that note STX on their entry form, then STX will stay part of SM and the top finisher will be "recognized"

3) If there are MORE then 18 people that sign up for STX on their entry form, STX will be bumped OUT of SM, into their own seperate "supplemental" class which will INCLUDE trophies for the top 1/3 and a championship jacket!!!

4) If there are MORE then 18 people this year, STX will be a class for all of next year.

So, SHOW UP TO NATIONALS PEOPLE!
Lets get 18!

Updated List
1) KC - 100%
2) 2QUICK4U - 100%
3) Joe (tirewarmer) - 50/50
4) AKIII - 50/50

KC 07-11-2002 02:02 PM

SM, huh? Hmm... OK It's still Tues/Wed.

Yes, we need people. Tom, I think you should finish the year in DS. Why ruin a good chance at the title in that class when I'd kick yer butt in STX? :D

That's some good news... heading over to H-T with it.

--kC
Orion 07-11-2002 02:06 PM

Great news! :D

I'm really hoping to go, but i don't think my car will be that competitve. OEM struts just ain't gonna cut it!

I'll know mid to late Aug. if I'll be there.
Tirewarmer 07-11-2002 03:47 PM

I am completely torn now. Do I want to beat the 2.5RS's in STS or do I want to beat the WRX's in STX? So many Subarus - only one entry

Joe
2QUICK4U 07-11-2002 07:03 PM

I really hope we can get enough entrants (18). I am going anyway and now I'm even more excited, even though I doubt we'll have 18. If you look at the results from the tour events the STX turnout hasn't been good.

We need to get some of the STS guys to run STX, they might even have a better chance of trophying in STX.
trhoppe 07-12-2002 12:16 AM

IMHO there will be no problem in getting 18.
There are already 6 for sure that I personally know of.
Probably 6 more that will go, now that this is announced.
Im sure that another 6 will either show up, or some poor souls will go from STS to STX to help out and like you said, better their chances of a trophy.

-Tom
2QUICK4U 07-12-2002 02:57 AM

trhoppe, does that mean you are gonna be there in STX? Come on we need you! :D
trhoppe 07-12-2002 08:15 AM

Well......I dunno......

If I go for STX I will have to put all the parts on the car the last weekend in august and then test it the first weekend in sept.

I can't run the pro finale, so I can only run the national championship. That means 3 runs only, on a new setup.....doh!

I think my chances in DS are better. If it means that my entry might save STX , I will probably slam some coilovers on the car on Monday after the ProSolo and run with you guys Tues/Wed.

Thanks KC.

Do it for the sake of STX! hahaha We can save it together!!!

KC 07-12-2002 09:09 AM

No, by me 'helping' would just insure me of the win. :D
trhoppe 07-12-2002 09:18 AM

haha....remember petersburg.....

oh...oopsie....I guess I forgot to tighten THOSE lugnuts

KC - check your email foooool :)
KC 07-12-2002 10:09 AM
KC - check your email foooool
And which e-mail should I check? I did check my 4 primarys and my 1 junk... nothing. Not even a PM here on the I-Club.

So now what? :D (Or was this an exercise in futility?)
trhoppe 07-12-2002 11:25 AM

Check your PMs now... :)
Guess I should hit that "send" button...it helps.

Also what is your email?
shifterkartracer 07-12-2002 11:47 AM

This is encouraging news. I've been on the fence for a while due to the lack of a 'true' STX class at Topeka. I've never been to the Nationals before but now I'm thinking that there is no time like the present. I'll ponder this a while longer before I send in my entry but you can probably count on me being there.
Orion 07-12-2002 12:20 PM

you can add me:

Orion 50/50
KC 07-12-2002 01:31 PM

From SCCAForums:
Killsbugsfast (don't know name) 100%
Willman67 50/50
Old Racer 100%

--KC
Orion 07-12-2002 01:46 PM

Willman and I will be heading up together if we go.
TheWRX 07-12-2002 07:42 PM

You can add me as 20/80. I really didn't plan to go, but if it goes down to the wire, I might consider it. I thought that I'd stick to local and a couple of divisional events in my rookie season, and get both myself and the car prepared a little better before getting whooped on a higher level next year.
2QUICK4U 07-12-2002 07:44 PM

Hey TheWRX,

Just come out, you are close enough. It will be a great experience, it doesn't matter if you are competitive or not, but it will make you that much better.
ChrisW 07-13-2002 12:50 AM

That's great news, unfortunetly I can't go this year.
Orion 07-13-2002 02:09 PM

Just spoke with Willman, he'll be out of the country that week.

On the bright side you can change me to 100%!!!:D

I'm still trying to convince a few of my Texas buddies to make the trip with us. There's also 2 STS guys (Top_Dog and Exchangeguy) I'll be heading up there with.
trhoppe 07-14-2002 12:36 PM

Hehe, in this case, 1, 100% is better then 2, 50%s :)
See ya there!
RK Performance 07-14-2002 06:56 PM

Okay, you guys gotta help me out...I have been thinking about skipping nationals this year do to the fact that my 02 RS has stalled out at intake and rear sway bar...What are the rules for STX??? Turbo RS would go SM right, does an RS even have a place in STX? I might be willing to do this, let me know what's up
lil'redwagon 07-15-2002 05:43 AM

more info?

hey,
i might consider going if i knew more about it. can you post a link to a site that might have more info?

thanks,

In addition to STS prep rules, in STX you have unlimited brakes, fixed back seat (no solid shell), go down to one cat can move your 1 cat within 6" of it's original location, and for those 2wd types, you can add a limited slip.

So a little more prep is allowed. But adding a hair dryer isn't one of them. :)

James: I can't tell from your post, but have you auto-xed before? Nationals is where the best autoxers from the country come to duel it out to become national class champion. (It's all the buzz at local auto-x events right now as people are making plans for the journey in September to Topeka. http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/nationals/index.html
Tangmere 07-17-2002 03:19 PM

KC,
You're misleading young James here. True, the Nats are not a good place for your 1st autox but there is no requirement that you have to be the "best" to attend. Anybody can enter and there are quite a few good drivers who choose not to or cannot attend for whatever reasons.

Mark
2QUICK4U 07-17-2002 03:35 PM

James,

I think I saw you run at the El Toro Autox. You should come, you would definitely be competitive.

Mark
I was not intending to be misleading. Apologies. I was trying to answer his question, and listed a link to where he can find out more information.

From his line... "Can someone tell me more about nationals" lends me to beleive that he doesn't auto-x, or do it often enough. Anyone can participate, agreed. :) Pay the entry and run. That's why I posted a link to the solo-ii nationals.

Your remark about those who cannot attend is valid, but what does "those who cannot attend for whatever reasons" have to do with answering his question about "What is nationals?" Nothing.

How can I not seem condesending in the typing world....trying to be a little realistic, how would someone who autoxes in SCCA, NOT know about nationals? It's the all the talk at the courses for the past month.

--kC
lil'redwagon 07-21-2002 08:07 AM

KC - thanks for the link. by the way, i didn't say "what's nationals". i guess i should have asked exactly when and where they will be, and if they will be only one day, like i'm used to, or if they'll be streched out for a few days, with only a few classes competing each day. will there be any practices before the champoinship? these are all questions that i was hoping to be answered by the site - that's why i asked for a link. i am planning a cross country trip right around that time, so, while i'll be on my stock tires for the long drive, i'd like to at least come and check it out.

i'm also interested in helping out the STX class, so i'd be happy to enter just to have more entrants in that class - maybe i'll be able to fit two of my track tires in the car to slap on the fronts for this event:confused: .

this isn't my first event. i've been to a few already put on by the so-cal people (3 with my wagon, then crashed it; 3 with my sedan - 1 fourth, 1 win, 1 second most recently). i am a total noob, so i was interested in at least checking out what a national event is like. i'll go check the site now.

thanks again,
-james

edit: ok, looks like i can't enter since registration is on the 6th. but hopefully i'll be able to get there to support the subies.
AWMIII 07-22-2002 10:46 AM

put me down as 80-20 in favor of going. Probally with a co-driver.

Orion 07-29-2002 08:37 AM

I'm working on the details right now, but I may have a co-driver in my car! I'll know more this week.
I'm optimistic we should get our own class!.

Orion - #5 STX Houston Region
David - #105 STX Houston Region (#9 DS Regionally)
Orion 07-29-2002 10:46 AM

Tom - There's a couple more over at SCCA Forums. I know of one BMW with 2 drivers that have mentioned they will be there.
natasha talarico 07-30-2002 10:01 AM

I haven't been autocrossing for long and I am going to nationals. I made all of the arrangements today. I am going to have fun and see what it is like not to be competative. I will not be entering the STX catagory because I am not taking my WRX I am going to codrive Kent Rafferty's Supra with his wife Karen. I am so new to this I am going just to have fun.

Natasha
trhoppe 08-01-2002 12:18 AM

Update: Just got an email from Kiko Seibt, looks like the car is back and ready for STX. I guess kiko is as undecisive as I am
ConeMasher 08-01-2002 12:25 PM

Tom,
I suggest you edit your initial post on the thread, and paste in the current list. Then when someone else jumps on, you can just edit it again. That way there is one central location for the list, and folks can check on it :)

-- ConeMasher
trhoppe 08-01-2002 12:39 PM

Done!
2QUICK4U 08-01-2002 12:49 PM

now we just need all the people who are 100%, to actually send in their registration, because as of 7/26 there are only 4 official STX entries.

I am guilty of this as well, but remember as of Aug. 17 a $50 late fee applies, and Aug. 24 the late fee goes up to $150. So send your forms in people. Mine is on its way today!
trhoppe 08-01-2002 01:34 PM

The "26th" doesnt reflect the 26th. I faxed my entry in on the 16th and my name was NOT included on the 26th entry list. I called to confirm and they did receive it on the 16th and I am registered, but not "on the web page yet"
Thats in DS though. They said I could switch to STX if need be.

-Tom
OldRacer 08-02-2002 09:05 AM

Well, hopefully they'll update the posted registration list soon.... I fax'd mine in a week ago.

Len
AWMIII 08-04-2002 10:05 PM

I can't make it. It has been a hard season due to personal reasons (look at my occupation!) and car issues. I seem to be unable to get my head together when the car is good. Or I am unable to get the car good when my head is together. IE at the Rome tour, the car was sweet, but I had a high fever and hit more cones than Ron Jeremy, and at the Peru Tour, I blew a strut the weekend before driving to an event and could not get my car put back together in time. Hopefully I'll be there next year.
OldRacer 08-06-2002 09:21 AM

Bout 1/2 Way There...

Well, I see Paula has updated the registration list...
I'm on, but she neglected to show *STX (e-mail to fix that sent). That's eight of us, and from this thread, there are at least a couple more that haven't been posted yet.
Think we'd all really like to see a real STX class happen.... Tom, I'll add my offet to KCs to help on the coilover swap; please do come play w/ us!
If anyone else is sitting on the fence, come on; let's make it happen.

Len
OldRacer 08-12-2002 08:47 AM

Bumpity bump......

Well, the registration list on the SCCA site hasn't been updated since my last post; just really curious about how we're doing on getting 18 to make STX a full class....
Anybody signed up that hasn't appeared on the SCCA list??

Frank, Bob, TheWRX..., Tom...?

Hey, James, your message noted registration (as in check in @ Topeka) on the 6th- that's for ProSolo. I think for SoloII you're fine up thru Monday the 9th. Will that help you make it?

Let's make it happen!

Len
trhoppe 08-12-2002 09:06 AM

I myself am registered for DS and will change to STX if need be. Dunno about anyone else...

-Tom
Orion 08-12-2002 09:12 AM

We sent our registration in about 10 days ago. Maybe they're waiting on my Divisional results from this weekend?

Orion Fairman #5 STX
David Smith #105 STX

He whooped up on me good this weekend, but with 7+ years more experience over me I expected it! My only goal at Nats is to not be DFL (or if I am, not so far back that it's embarassing!!! ) and of course have lots of fun while I'm there!:)

Orion
Orion 08-13-2002 08:36 AM

Entry list was updated yesterday. There are now 11 STX entries.

Late fee deadline are quickly approaching!!!

We May Just Make It!

Hey, its looking hopeful.....
11 on the posted list, our official Class Favorite...in process, Tom ready to come over from DA...that's 13.
2Quick4U says he's in,
Ditto KillsbugsFast,
So does BabyBob,
Then there's "Gary what's his name" (fm KC's earlier list),
And Shifterkartracer said earlier he was planning on coming.....

S__t, that would be 18........................

Then there's Tirewarmer and Big Sky that were thinking about it.

Let's put this puppy over the top!

I gotta say, I'm really looking forward to meeting you guys. Like Orion, I'm approaching for the fun, getting to know some good people across the country, and ending up something other than DFL....

Now all I have to do is re-learn the car in the next 3 weeks. Been waiting since early April for struts (Cobb/Koni). Finally, yesterday, got them + STi springs in. Should help a little....

Looking forward to some fun,

Len

Willman67's still on the fence. He's got a business trip until Sunday (9/8) so he's not sure he'll make it in time.

BTW - Len, I think I've changed my goal. I wanna make sure that the SportsCar jinx stays true... j/k KC!

I am in the same boat, I still have a lot of setup to do, namely new wheels and tires, and brakes. I'm still trying to sell my stock wheels with victoracers too.

My entry isn't in yet, I'm still trying to work things out with a couple sponsors, kinda late I know, but it will be faxed on Friday with or without them.

Lots of last-minute prep going on!

Natasha, great to hear about your husband; thanx!

Orion, like your new goal. Adding motivation for KC.... But, gosh, who'll be taking me on for DFL....? Hope Willman67 decides he can squeeze it in.

Frank- glad to hear, good luck w/ the sponsors!

Tom- Hey, old farts like me learn slow; I'll need that 3 weeks. I'm getting in Sunday evening, and would be MORE than glad to lend a hand w/ the conversion if we end up needing you. It would be a pleasure. Gotta admit, you're talking a pretty steep learning curve!

Hope Willman67 finds a way to make it.. BigSky, Shifterkartracer, you out there? We're getting close.
