Post pics of your Hella Supertones!
Please post pics of your Hella Supertones!
I wanna buy them... any good trustworthy places I can get them from?

Please post pics of where you guys have it mounted... wanna have different options rather than just in front of the grill.

Thanks!

Get them from www.rallylights.com

Here's an old pic of my car but you can see where they're mounted.

Are these the same Hella Supertones?

FIRST CHOICE

SECOND CHOICE

I know most people get them from the second choice website but the first choice website seems nicer and the product is a bit cheaper. The only discrepancy is that on one it says that the MAX power is 144 watts while the other says 72 watts... but it shows that its the same Part Number of 85115. I want the 118dB ones! Please help so I can purchase it ASAP!!!
shftat6 09-15-2005 04:22 AM

I got the 85315 off of Ebay brand new for a good price. I have mine mounted behind the grill much like you have seen above. I just did it last weekend and haven't taken any pics yet. They are nice, not as loud as air horns, but louder than stock for sure. I took my time and made sure I wired them right trying to keep things as stock in appearance as possible (wiring).
Jesse00 09-15-2005 05:14 AM

I want those but im always afraid to be pulled over by cops giving me a ticket for impostering a police vehicle cuz the plastic housing looks like police flashing lights. Anyone got problems similar as that before?
Hank3 09-15-2005 08:07 AM

A good amount of members picked them up from Susquehanna MotorSports:

Or you can try eBay.

There are a few pics of the Hellas painted black in this thread if you want to go for the stealth look:

so how much louder are these horns in person? I assume everyone gets them because subarus have such wimpy horns right (my wife's MINI has a louder horn)?

Ben
Technically, they are supposed to be 9 times louder, althought to me, they only seem about 2 or 3 times as loud. They are definately directional, which is cool, because you won't have to hear them inside the car that much. What you are sure to notice is the tone change... it's so much meaner!

Oh ya, and a pic of my horns.

specialev 09-17-2005 04:32 PM

I have my supertones mounted to the center core support at a couple of unused blind nuts. I have a relay mounted behind the drivers grille finisher on the headlamp bucket. Nothing too exciting, but they are loud and get the job done.

Post pics when you're done! And what you mean grille surgery? I though all installations didn't require touching the grill...
03blkwrx 09-17-2005 09:32 PM

where did you guys hide the wires? (grounding wires?) there touching the radiator, should i be worried about anything..?
specialev 09-17-2005 09:38 PM

I routed the powered wire, from the relay, through the conduit at the top of the core support in front of the condensor. The ground wires are ok if they touch the condensor; I didn't hide mine at all, they were so short that the supertones pretty much cover them. You should minimize their length to be as short as possible.
Post pics when you're done! And what you mean grille surgery? I though all installations didn't require touching the grill...
to have the hella's fully exposed on the 2006 you'll need to cut away at the grill. i got them mounted today but i lacked a couple of crimp connections to finish the wiring. decided not to do grill surgery and found alternate mounting points that still have 2/3 to 3/4 of the horns open for sounding off. the installation was ten times easier than that on my civic. much more room to work with and you don't even have to take the bumper off. :disco:
G-Gnome 09-18-2005 02:08 AM

Those are some evil horns...
pityr 09-18-2005 02:15 AM
where did you guys hide the wires? (grounding wires?) there touching the radiator, should i be worried about anything..?
Thats not the radiator, its the AC condensor. I ran my wires in a loom attached to the inside of the bumper.
JackClark 09-18-2005 04:15 AM
Nice... can you tell me where you mounted the brackets for the horns?
I didn't like the option of mounting on the center support where the hood latches onto. I used the thin metal beam in front of the radiator that runs horizontally, just behind the grill. I drilled zero holes, just used the pre-existing ones. I had to pop out one of the plastic plugs that holds the hood release wire in place, but it has no problem staying where it is without the plastic piece. Has anyone else gone this route? Would pics be helpful?
pignoseWRX 09-18-2005 05:08 AM

that's exactly what i did ... i was actually looking at mounting them on the outer supports and not the center, but the grill got in the way. i used the same points that you're talking about with some spare bolts i had lying around.
thsiao 09-18-2005 02:58 PM

Are you guys talking about these spots? That's exactly where I think I want mine to be... but will the hood release wire be dangling and stuff?

that's look pretty easy there

do they come with those metal brackets or do you need to make a quick run to Home Depot?
garface 09-21-2005 02:27 PM

Make sure it is tight when you mount it and that it doesn't come loose. If you have any weird noises or thumping problems, always check the horns first. Mine came loose and I could feel it in the pedal, the steering wheel, everything. It also made a thumping sound. Drove me nuts. I thought I had a blown coilover or loose axle. Didn't have a swaybar at the time, otherwise I would have blamed that.
DieselClown 09-21-2005 02:44 PM

I'm doing that soon! I was about to order them but forgot all about them. I already have a REALY loud airhorn along with the scooby factory. I might go with 4 supertones. Does anybody know if just by connecting them, that they will go of along with the factory alarm when armed?
specialev 09-21-2005 02:56 PM
That's exactly where I mounted mine. I'm suprised more people don't do that since it works so well and is so easy to do.
I don't think you can make 'em fit in exactly that fashion "easily" in a 2002/03 WRX; it was not possible on my car due to the horns contacting the grille.

By easily I mean mounting invloves little more than using the as provided bracket on existing blind nuts as compared to fabbing brackets.
Does anybody know if just by connecting them, that they will go of along with the factory alarm when armed?
They will.

You have to space them back by putting washers or nuts on the screw or bolt you use. The brackets shouldn't be flush up against the rad support. The back of the horns should almost touch the ac condensor.

:o Yes one is mounted on the lower bolt in the center the other on the upper bolt, I kept the stock horns. Besides, they do the job just fine. ;)
thsiao 09-23-2005 09:10 PM

For everyone who has the Supertones exposed at the grill... what would happen if little rocks from the freeway start hitting it? Will it damage it? Got mine today and it seems pretty strong but dunno if rock chips from the freeway are going to be a problem or not. Has anyone had any problem?

Also... my horns didn't come with any wiring stuff... just 2 horns, brackets, and a relay. Is that all that comes with the kit?
shftat6 09-23-2005 10:27 PM

Yes, you have to buy the wiring and connectors yourself. The way the horns are designed, I think they will hold up to any rocks that might hit them just fine. If the rocks are small enough that the grill is not damaged, neither should the horns be.
moogoob 09-24-2005 12:00 AM

you can tell rocks hit mine all the time cause the paint i used is all chipped... the horns are fine though.

Nice shots. Looks like I'll be picking some up this weekend. =)
TopKatz 09-24-2005 10:01 AM

This is such a simple mod. I was able to use male and female disconects to hook into the existing wire for the hornes, then I just ran the power back from the relay. There is a little diagram floating around the forum that I folowed and it worked like a champ. As for mounting I used the two bolts on the center pillar of the hood latch. I think its a 12 and 10 mm bolt. I also used the 10mm one to mount the ground. The bigest pain was spining the horn on its bracket so the wires were pointing down, and out of eye sight.

I ended up grabing the 118db ones. They are not as loud as I thought they would be, but they sound way cool, and much better then the stockers.
thsiao 09-24-2005 12:37 PM

Another question... who here has the Supertones connected with the OEM horns at the same time? How does it sound like that? Is it weird coz they are different tones?
Does anyone have the OEM horns hooked up separately to a secondary button? Is that even doable? Thanks... just getting ideas BEFORE I install mine.

Yeah, there are two up front, then one more back by the passenger strut tower.

4 Supertones on the Saab coming soon (hopefully)....
