too big in which way, just wondering...
| russd32 | 03-09-2007 01:01 AM |
I'd be able to write about how great the Prosport gauges I bought are if I could ever find a decent pod that fits my taste so I can install them. I don't understand why Autometer or Lotek don't make a pillar that replaces the factor pillar and uses the stock mounting design. And don't buy a ProPods dash pod. I like it in the pictures because it's not big and gawdy like the Defi but when I got it I saw that it only attaches with two screws with ill fitting cheesy clips that bolt to the dash. Both of them are in the very back so the front doesn't mount down at all. On top of that it didn't fit worth a crap, there were gaps on both sides. That thing was a joke, an $80 joke I might add.

mechanical has a vacum line that goes directly to the gauge, where the electrical has a sensor that is installed in the vacum line and wires are attached to the gauge...

you wired it wrong if it only turns on when your headlights turn on...go and relook at how you wired it...you likely switched the ac with the dimmer...

I've got a mechanical prosport boost gauge thats doing funny things.
It works great most of the time, but after extended driving (20 minutes)
the needle will read stay at the max (29psi) and stay there even
when idling. If I turn the car off and then on, it will still do the opening
ceremony and full sweep and then it will jump back to 29psi. Only after
leaving it off for 5 minutes does it return to normal, but then
after some more driving it's back up to 29psi. Any ideas?

I know this may be hard to believe but some people actually drive and mod other car brands too :)
I test fitted the sandwich adapter last week on my 04 and there's no way the oil pressure sender will fit on it. Just not enough space in there with the oil pan and oil filter being in the way. Time to find a steel brainded hose to run out of the sandwich to the pressure sender relocated somewhere else. I am sure oil temp sender will have the same issue. Looks like I need 2 hoses.

I have the premium boost gauge... All you have to do is HOLD the button for like 5 seconds or so, then the light will come on. Then tap the button so your needle will move up by small increments. HOLD the button down to move up the needle in big increments. If you pass your target boost peak, just keep holding the button, the needle will start going back when it reaches the max.

My 2...
I got a full set (EGT, boost, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp) of them late last year. I got 52mm amber ones to match the interior of my STi. They're definitely amber and not red, like the dash. I can deal with that. I'm currently having a problem with the oil pressure (which I haven't contacted them about yet). When I start the car the pressure is pegged (100+psi). Once the car is warmed up, at a stop sign it sits around 40-50psi, but once I even blip the throttle it spikes again. I don't know if i's a sender issue or a gauge issue. I haven't gotten under the car to measure the actual resistance of the sender.
Also, my oil temp only shows around 180-190. According to Unabomber (here) it should be 220-260. I use a sandwich adapter for the oil senders.
Anyone know if there are any specs for the pressure sender they use? Anyone know if I can grab my actual oil temp/pressure via OBD II to compare to the gauges?

which way did you wire them the amber/white cause their is a way to wire them full red...
| Fred Fredburger | 03-21-2007 09:08 AM |
I wired them for amber all the time. I saw that if you don't hook up either illumination lead it will be red, but I think the red was rather dim so during the day it would be very tough to read.
With my brief testing there was no way to get it to change from a "wired" color (white/amber) back to the "unwired" color (red). For example, when I have it wired for amber, if I were to disconnect the illumination lead while the gauge was on it would stay amber rather than going red. It appears the only time the gauge will go red is on startup, you can't get it to go red after the gauge is on.
