Great thread! I had this noise on my 04 STi and I just about gave up and learned to accept it. No more having people ask "what is that?"
| SupDooD | 02-02-2010 10:10 AM |
This seriously took me less than 2 minutes to do. So happy I did it.
| NOboostSUBIE | 06-18-2010 03:31 PM |
Just did this a minute ago...on my bugeye...122,000 miles of squeaks gone for good. That is until the pass. side starts doing it, ha.
| Izero | 06-18-2010 03:58 PM |

My 04 STI is doing this..lol Im glad I found this thread! Will be doing it on Tuesday!!!
| Hank3 | 06-22-2010 12:26 PM |
Hahaha - this thread is almost six years old. But the fix still works like a charm. I don't own my WRX any more (sold it two years ago), but glad people are still finding this fix helpful.
| AtomikSub | 06-22-2010 09:27 PM |

Holy crap! I was just searching for "seatbelt" because I've lived with this problem for years and I'm finally starting to take the initiative to start caring for my car. Step one FIX THAT SQUEAK! I feel a lot better that it's not just me too.
I'd actually tried to throw a bunch of WD 40 down there once too...just succeeded in making my shirts all dirty.
Doing this tonight with a dremel!

I'm not good at taking cars (especially my own) apart. is there how-to somewhere on this?

Thank you so much for this writeup. That squeak was driving me insane, and the fix could not have been easier.

Been living with this issue for 3 years now. Didn't know it was a common problem. Thanks for the fix.

im gonna do the post 50 fix of dremeling and i am going to spray silicone lube on the inside of it it will dry and stay slick
| stikid2005 | 07-03-2010 04:59 PM |
well just stop wearing your seabelt. they dont do anything anways just a bunch of lies to get you pay seabelt tickets....jk
mine do it to but i wear my four points because i have gotten use to them and I feel odd just wearing the reg belt.
chances are its the bearing inside that locks the belt, like if you pull the belt all the way then it locks and make that ticking sound? its all the way down behind plastic you can see it better in the rear belts. maybe try lubing that up see what that does.

Come on dude, they don't come much greener than me but it took me about 15 seconds of looking at the pillar to figure out how to take it off. Chillout.
I'm so happy for this fix, I really thought it was the mechanism making the sound. I still have shell shock (I wince when I pull the belt). Took me about 5 minutes start to finish.

Had the car for a week and was cringing at the squeak everytime i got strapped in.... OP= Hero
| citionecent | 07-23-2010 11:20 PM |
thanks OP for the tip.
I actually just opened it up and covered the problem area with a piece of duct tape. no need to take it off and cut it. It takes less than 5 minutes to do. and it reversible, just in case if you want the noise back.

Most annoying sound EVAR! I'm taking mine apart this week and trying this out, it really ruins the joy when I get into my car and putting my seatbelt on sends me on the verge of a migraine.. Then I start the engine and its nothing but pure joy again! Thanks for the thread!
| nohbdy | 08-30-2010 12:03 PM |
Need to do this sometime before I go insane. I'll have to look up how to remove that panel later.
| Boxerocks | 08-30-2010 03:13 PM |
I love when people bump helpful old threads. Mine squeals when its hot outside but it's one of those things I only think about when it happens so I never would have remembered to do anything about it. I'll have to give it a shot now that I know its an easy fix!
