Sepang....
1. Ralf Schumacher
2. Kimi Raikkonen
3. Juan Pablo Montoya
4. Michael Schumacher
5. Nick Heidfeld
6. Felipe Massa
Williams takes the lead. RB out again. This race result will get Ferrari to bring the F2002 around for Brazil which unfortunately will probly mean game over. Jag brings up the rear. Fred Zaplitny will pick JPM. Ryouga will use his magic power to put Trulli in the weeds. J Colman will freaking pick somebody new for a change. Pitbabes will be posted.

Let's see... Ferrari has won all 3 races at Sepang. Who might I guess will win this week?
Plus... it rains like a bas**rd in Malaysia. Are there any drivers who excel in wet weather?
1. MS
2. RB
3. Ralfie
4. Heidfeld
5. Button
6. Pete Rose
JPM throws his car away in the wet.
Raikkonen and DC have mechanical problems
Minardi finishes out of the points, but both cars are running at the end of the race.
I was wrong department: The Toyotas are much better than I thought they would be.

Arioch, Zahnster---I don't know about putting McNish in the points you guys. Salo was moving in on 5th last week when the AISS failed. That's what caused the spin. Toyota has had problems with their AISS all throughout testing...grandpa rex takes 6th.
| Dr. WOT | 03-12-2002 08:30 AM |
I don't know about either Toyota being in the points. They looked good last week, but expect first year teething problems, no matter how much power that engine in making.
If it rains, Bridgestone teams get a decided advatage. There are rumors of Michellin bringing a top secret super tire, but I haven't been able to colaborate that from any other sources. Still the Malaysian heat will level out the difference we saw in Melbourne, as long as it stays dry.
This week is as much as a crap shoot as the first race, since many unpreditable things happened. Assuming it stays dry, I'm going to predict that Williams get the chance to flex some muscle this week.
1> JPM
2> MS
3> DC
4> RB
5> GF
6> OP
But I bet even if conditions are ideal for Williams, they still will have a very hard time staying ahead of Ferrari.

Although that would officially I think be the biggest upset in all of F1 history....... Bernie has stated that in no way are they going to race.
And what Bernie wants......Bernie gets.
Toyota tested at Sepang quite a bit, so they may be up for a decent finish, but I suspect it will be the usual suspects at the front. I don't think Kimi's going to win a straight fight against the heavies quite yet. I'd say he's in with a shot at Austria, that track always throws up an odd race or two. Trulli in 97. Irv in 99.

Yeah I'm also pretty sure we won't see them on the track this season. They still haven't covered the entry fee, and Bernie's made it clear that just buying old AP-cars doesn't count. But it's kind of funny that they're just 'showing up.'

Wet Race...
According to wunderground.com, Kuala Lumpur can expect:
Friday - Thunderstorms, hi 87deg
Saturday - Chance o' T-storms, hi 89deg
Sunday - Chance o' Rain, hi 91deg
Looks like the drivers will really be earning their paychex this weekend... hot and wet...
Shchumacher said that he's been hanging in Malaysia for a few days to acclimate to these conditions, because he thinks this is the most physically demanding race on the calendar...
Makes it hard to not pick Schumacher to win... I had guessed RB would win, MS 2nd, but now I'll switch to MS, then RB...

From Speed Channel
Two weeks ago when a group calling itself Phoenix GP bought the rights to the property of the bankrupt Prost Formula 1 squad, Bernie Ecclestone and FIA president Max Mosley both publicly chided the team for saying it wanted to race, saying in essence that all they had bought were a couple of show cars.
Today the team, which is led by British businessman Charles Nickerson, has taken his show on the road. His two former Prost AP04 chassis have landed in Sepang, site of this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix, and announces that it intends to race this weekend.
The team is looking to run TWR V10 engines in a partnership with Arrows team principal Tom Walkinshaw that was agreed upon when Phoenix bought the Prost equipment. The team has also signed former Minardi and Prost driver Gaston Mazzacane, and reportedly told him to ignore all the press reports and get ready to race this weekend.
Both Ecclestone and Mosley has spoken out against Phoenix's right to race, saying that they have no entitlement to race the cars, and the move may just be a display as the car would have to pass FIA crash tests before being allowed to compete if any modifications had been made to the chassis in the offseason.
The team made the move without contacting the FIA or any potential tire supplies, leaving one to wonder where the car's shoes will come from. Bridgestone has said that it could supply the new team, but logistics and the fact that they had not been forewarned, would make it improbable that they could supply the team this weekend.
The true test will come on Friday morning when the first practice session takes place. If Mazzacane comes to the track with his driver's suit on, the battle could be on.
Don't have predictions yet, but in the mean time here's a link that might be sooooo last week it isn't even funny.

As for putting Trulli in the weeds, I don't recall him being that prone to going off. I had, on the other hand, seen enough altercations between Ralf and Rubens in the past few years to predict what happened in Australia. Believe me, it was a simple case of taking established patterns and extending them to the future. :D
Hmm. I guess this means I'm going to be required to make a race retirement prediction for every race this year. I will have to do some research.

Look for Phoenix to do paddock deals for tires for Brazil and the rest of the season w/B-stone... TWR has already fitted the drivers at the Arrows factory, so they are ready to go... Nothing in F1 surprises me...

Dr WOT--It's just kind of a joke that came about last year when we were making ridiculous predictions. Somebody made the joke that Kimi would lose it on the pit straight while scratching his ass and take out the Minardi pit crew. Since there's a system or telemetry or a gadget for EVERYTHING, the AISS was born.

I'll take a Rubens please, hold the Schumacher
I think Ruben's is very much a viable contender. That and I like playing wierd odds. I don't think they are gonna hold him back, even with Schumacher on his rump. The thing is, if it rains, as it is predicted to do so, Schumacher will likely win anyways.
That being said, I got the very distinct impression from Schumacher's comments in Australia that Rubens is a man on a mission. I believe that he will score another win this season and I don't think Todt or Schumacher will try and steal his thunder if he is on a strong run.
That and I am really tired of Schumacher. I've rooted for him in the past (solely based on his affiliation with Ferrari). This year, I'll either root for Rubens, one of the BMW boys, one of the Toyota boys, or Kimi. Schumacher is just too much of a jerk (personal opinion) and I'm kinda tired of him.

If I were Rubens, and in the lead, there's no way I'd move over this year, Todt screaming in my ear or not. He's done his 'duty', helped to get championships for both Schumi and Ferrari for the last 2 years. He's in the most dominant car he'll probly ever have the chance to drive. If it were me, I'd be going for it this year, whether it got me fired or not.
EDIT: Though with 2-way telemetry this year, maybe it's possible that the team could screw enough with his car to slow him down, but I don't think they'd risk team points doing that. Who knows...Schumi is BIG money...

JPM will win the drivers' title this year thanks to new technology that Williams has just gotten worked in to the steering wheel. Check it out:

If RB ever has an oppertunity to race MS without orders this is it. Well actually it was in Melbourne, but I agree that Shuey's comments suggest that they felt he deserved his shot in Australia so maybe they'll cut him a little slack and let him do him best to beat MS in Sepang.
Even if this was the case, I doubt it would do much good. MS, for all of the controversy and allegations, really is that good, and RB got a taste of that at the start of last season, when he was clearly overdriving in a desperate attempt to keep up (particularly in the first few races).
Being #2 at Ferrari has ALWAYS been this way, and it a tough decision. The age old question: Serve in heaven or rule in hell. I personally would take the #2 at Ferrari. The reality of moden F1 is that the car decides 90% of it, and without a competitive car you can be the best driver on the grid, and still find yourself driving touring cars the following year. OTOH, drive at Ferrari, get your 2nd or 3rd in the Championship for a couple of years, see if you get lucky enough to inherit the #1 seat, or wait out an offer from another top team when it comes along. It worked well for Salo, at least he's back in F1.

$45,000,000 And You're In!
Atlasf1.com's is published a Reuters wire feed saying the FIA has told Phoenix to not bother showing up at Malaysia or any other race, since they do not have a "right to compete", therefore no room will be made in the paddock for them.
Nickerson's Phoenix group will now, "...sit down and talk about our options". The FIA's F1 "Right to compete" fee is USD$45,000,000.00...

 @ Grimlock
Damn, I'm sooooo late on this thread this week, I guess it's all that extra training i'm putting in.
While Donjuan has been contemplating the logistics of running last year's front wing as oppossed to the one we managed to fish out of the McLaren dumpster after Australia, I've been walking the track at Sepang, trying to figure out the best line. I remember how tired Mika was a couple years ago, I would hate to dehydrate during practice, so I've been strategically going over where the best place to take a sip of my energy drink.
My predictions are as follows:
Colman F1
Michael Schumacher
Rubens Barrichello
David Coulthard
Montoya
Ralf Schumacher
Kimi Raikkonnen
Colman F1 will have a bad start, and drop 5 spots after qualifying a respectable 16th. After the race gets under we will put into effect the questionable 12 stop, pit stop strategy. With fresh tires every five laps, we will storm through the field, laying down massive skid marks with wild abandon, and great glee.

donjuan,
I've been a Montoya fan ever since his rookie season in CART.
He's the first F1 driver I've really liked since Senna. I was a bigtime Zanardi fan too. Too bad F1 didn't work out for him. I've never been a fan of Micheal Schumacher. I respect what he has done and what he is capable of doing. I will be honored to say that I have seen him race and win, but I will never root for him. I am VERY sick of Micheal Schumacher. I DO NOT think he is the best ever. He might not even be the best right now. He certainly has the best driver/car combo at the moment though. Let's hope the new Ferrari is a dog! Yeah, that's going to happen!!
Fred
ps
I was a Nigel Mansell fan too!

Sepang Weather URL
I thought I'd share this since I was looking for a URL earlier and couldn't find one... Yahoo! Weather - Sepang Forecast
The forecast for Sepang is different (no rain), than for Kuala Lumpur (for which rain has been predicted this weekend)... So rainmeisters may not have an advantage... may be a straight up, dry fight in the heat instead...
Sepang Forecast:
Friday - Partly Cloudy - 90deg
Saturday - Mostly Cloudy - 92deg
Sunday - Partly Cloudy - 92deg

Ok. After giving my predictions some careful thought, I am back to pull something out of my ass. And here they are:
1) Rubens
2) Ralf
3) JPM
4) Coulthard
5) Kimi
6) Heidfeld
Michael will have mechanical gremlins, knocking him out of the race. Michelin's tires will allow Ralf and JPM to compete for the lead, but in the end Rubens's Ferrari will have enough to hold them off. Coulthard will steal one of JPM's chili dogs, causing him to grap on his tired, but his experience will allow him to beat Kimi for the first time this year.
And I refuse to put Toyota in the top 6 until I've seen more (though I have tremendous respect for Ove Andersson).

i think that the chili-dogs are starting to take over his brain...
the 'no **** sherlock' quote for the day comes from jpm when he said...
"It's crucial for the World Championship to close the gap, Because if Michael wins again it will open the gap and then it will be tough."
really, if he wins again, it'll open the gap? and if he opens the gap, it's going to be tougher?

Hey nobody said he was the sharpest chili dog in the drawer! :D
He is however, the best driver out there.
IMO of course!

Montoya doesnt think in terms of points, haven't you heard that he recieves bonus chili dogs for each extra point. That is why he tries soooooo hard, he doesn't give a damn about the championship.
Oh by the way, Schumi will win, and it's the reigenmeister, not rainmeister. :p
