i don't mean this to be offensive to you. but, i drove a WRX with that knob and that is the worst ergnomically designed knob ever. not only that, that thing gets soooo cold in the winter it's not even funny.

i prefer the leather wrapped prodrive, momo or even the stock WRX knob to that. anyone else hate the STi knob?

It took me a day to get used to it, but I'm a titanium whore and have wanted that knob since I got the car. I've actually found it to be quite good, and really like it. I've also got a black Prodrive knob, but wanted something different, so picked up this knob for cheap from a fellow boardmember :)

To each his own, I suppose.

i have the sti titanium knob too... but i have yet to try it..

btw, i was expecting the sti knob to be very light...but instead it's quite heavy... almost as heavy as the momo..

gjhsu: is yours heavy too? (i don't know if i got jipped and bought a fake one..

Yeah, it is kinda heavy, but it is, afterall, a large chunk of titanium. It's just a little bit lighter than the Prodrive that I have.
gjhsu 05-15-2004 08:58 AM

oh... why not:

yeah it is
sirbryanclark 05-16-2004 04:25 AM

I really like the look of the STI knob... how does the color match up with the shifter trim? what abou the momo race, does it match the sti shifter trim>?
gjhsu 05-16-2004 09:31 AM

No, it doesn't math perfectly, because the trim is aluminum, and the knob is titanium, but I think it looks good - the trim being a shinier silver, and the knob more grey.
Cardiff Giant 05-16-2004 11:55 AM

I'm not sure if I have the picture anymore, but I have the shift knob from the 2005 Legacy. It fits with my interior very well and it's a really really nice part. If i find the picture of it in my actual car I'll post it.

I'll have to snap a pic of mine sometime this weekend, just got it in. Anyone know if the Kei Office one is made for our cars?
DrD 05-21-2004 07:04 PM

Just picked this up second-hand (for a whole lot less than Subaru wants for it) - I like it (I like the titanium one as well - I swapped that out for this one)

If you're referring to mine, it's a white version of the one that Jamie posted above. I think it's really supposed to be for the 6MT, but it fits fine on the 5MT shift lever. The boot slips tightly over the bottom, but doesn't have a retainer, so it slips down every once in a while. It makes it look crooked and I didn't notice it when I took the pic. :p:p

This is one of the best knobs I have felt. With other knobs that are, as you said, "ergonomically designed" you can't feel things very well because the vibrations are absorbed by the rubber/foam/leather. With a peice of titanium bolted onto the steel shifter, you can feel every single little notch and every single little vibration.

Well - most of the vibration damping takes place in the shift lever itself (if you look at it, it's filled with a rubber material to dampen vibrations) - I like the STi titanium one and the Subaru CF one alot - I am not a big fan of the large, round ones... if you really want to feel everything, get a solid shortshifter and replace the shifter bushings with the Kartboy ones.

thats a sweet kartboy! i like the barcode graphic... very sick
Teep 05-23-2004 11:58 PM

Thanx, I got it used off a forum peep. Just today me & my dad squared off the UPC code (unstick/resposition). I think I need one of their T-shirts. :disco: to go w/my shifter, bushings, and endlinks.

Anyone have tips for tidying up (hemming?) the stock boot? I mean, hanging down into the well there just don't look right to me. I'd prefer not bying a whole new boot.

-tp
sirbryanclark 05-27-2004 10:09 PM

i have thought about trying to modify the boot alot... maybe shortening it from the top and rolling it under?
Teep 05-27-2004 10:16 PM

Right on, someone's got to have done this before, we need to find those people! :D

One thought, I have a friend with leather tools, I'll ask his opinion this w/e.

I've got a Kartboy SS, bushings, and a big Trust metal shift knob, it's almost as good as a window into what's going on down in the tranny, you feel everything. I might swap the knob for the 400g RAZO weighted CF one though, Trust one gets hot in the summer.

Anyone here have a Perrin or Kartboy on an STi, and what do you think of it? Also where did you get that Prodrive knob NTP WRX or Jamie? Last question, has anyone figured out how to get a hold of the V limited/Peter Solberg shift knob (besides buying a whole new car)?

I used a rubber washer underneath the boot. First I attached the shiftknob to the shifter. then I picked the console up basically pulling the boot inside out tight against the shift knob. Then I wrapped enough electrical tape underneath the rubber washer so that it wouldn't slide down. I know it's kinda ghetto, but it works great and the tape can't been seen anyway.
