Spec c roof vent, how good is it? part 2

InfamousDX 03-20-2006 11:52 AM
See my post #51, I linked to a scoobymods walkthrough. Or are you looking for something else/different/better? I have to admit I didn't read the whole thing.

Didn't see that, ehhe. I know Cirrus... I'll just make him to it to mine!

And I have my V1 radar hard wired to my map lights... do you lose the connection wires and the ground or is there still room to hard wire there?

No problem, I just wanted to point it out to you, but trying to not sound like an ass. Tough to do on the internet sometimes. Don't know about the rest, I would imagine that you should be able to keep it if you don't have to remove the plate above the mirror. Either way I would imagine that you could just hardwire all the way back to the dash if you have to, there should be room in the headliner still.
Johnny, the headliner dosn't have to be removed to install the roof vent. You can rest it on the package rack and the front seat head rests. There are also ways you can get the headliner out by playing with the seat positions

I know, I read like 3 writeups...I was referring to the aftermarket one explained above...

if it were to be smaller than the OEM maplights, you'd have huge gaps in the headliner and would need to order a new uncut one...

I say stick OEM...it's worth the $$$ +1

No, the map lights have a little connector you can unhook.

And funny enough, everybody talking about the headliner reminded me of my search to find a shop to do the install. I talked to 2 places, the first was my body shoppe guy. For him it was "Cut a hole in the roof? No problem. Cut the headliner? No way." The shoppe I got it done at was relunctant to cut the headliner too. Nobody seemed to have a problem carving up my roof.

Let me know when you are going to have yours done, I want one as well, we can do them both at the same time maybe?
dcoty 03-21-2006 09:37 AM

I may not do this mainly becuase I use the STi 90% of the time in the winter. As much as I want to do it, I think it would be extremely pointless in my case, but all of you people who live in nice climates should do this, I sure as hell would.
Yesitsdrew5310 03-21-2006 01:00 PM

Mine is being installed on friday. I own a WAGON!!! *gasp*

roof vent
Hi,

A question for the people who drive around with the roof vent:

How noisy/drafty are they when they are shut?
Is there still some whisteling/draft, or do the seals take care of that properly?

Thanx!

My answer doesn't really count, since I have a big honkin scoop above it, but... If the seals are oriented in the proper directions, there should be almost no noise from it. I get an air-rushing sound from the scoop, but no whistling from the vent itself. It seals pretty tightly to the roof when closed.
Dreammaster2.5RS 03-22-2006 01:03 AM

Where did you buy your sti. I know someone that just sold their 04 sti. I believe it was in kingston for sale. Had jdm parts on it..
dangerousatom 03-22-2006 09:27 AM

I have no noticable noise when closed.....and I was just told by someone on here the the seals are upside down....? There is WAY more noise if one of the rear windows is down 1/2 inch then when the vent is closed
280hpwrx 03-22-2006 10:49 AM

This is what you are looking for...

When you are inside and close the lid, you can see the lid compress the seal properly. Of all the install writeups I've seen on these, the only correct one that comes to mind was Bumble Bee 03s. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=681688&highlight=roof+vent

I had the seal installed upside down for a week and it was noisy. You could hear the wind whistling through the vent. Once I flipped it, all the noise disappeared.

Installed on a WAGON!
Yup the JDM RA Roof Vent is now on another wagon!!! Here are some photos of it!

(note, my lightbar is being replaced by the Rally Innovations Light Bar, so thats why its not there right now. And YAY for being sponcered :D)

nice!! post some inside the cabin pics. did you have the same issue w/the map light cut out as the other wagon owner?
Yesitsdrew5310 03-24-2006 11:14 PM

I dont have the map light, so no. The headliner did crease a bit. But I believe thats because our headliner isnt made for the vent. I'll post inside photos soon. and a DIY is soon coming as well! :D
95sti 03-24-2006 11:23 PM

Nice pics Drew, glad it worked out for ya.

Just added some cool guy points to the wagon!
Alizarin 03-25-2006 12:49 AM

Enjoy it, Drew! :D
plucebo 03-25-2006 02:28 AM

Yea i got my 04 at colonial subaru in kingston i wanted to buy it when it was up for sale here on the site but didn't have enough money at the time then the guy traded it in up in the catskill area and somehow colonial ended up with it and i got it a few weeks after.
280hpwrx 03-25-2006 09:40 AM

Good job on that!

The car would look very sleek WITHOUT the roof rails. With the headliner off, that was the best time for removal.

No maps lights? Then you probably have a cleaner install inside than mine since I had the map light cutout.

Yesitsdrew5310 03-25-2006 11:29 AM

^^ I totaly agree, and I want to do that really bad. I didn't have enough time to get the rail deletes shipped in before friday.

And taking the headliner out is easy in a wagon! :D

Where can I get the roof rail deletes? And are you goin to the April 1st drive?
280hpwrx 03-25-2006 04:02 PM

I got my roof deletes from allsubaru.com. I had to call since they weren't listed on their website. Subaruparts.com wouldn't ship them because they were deemed too fragile.

I first went to Erlich Subaru in Tucson and it was like pulling teeth. The VIN and the roof delete skus do not jive so the parts guy kept trying to convince me that I needed the 4 piece set of mouldings. I kept saying that I ALREADY HAVE THESE on the car and needed the deletes. Worthless.

Codes may change, but this is what I ordered:
Left side is 91046FE010 and right side is 91046FE000...one piece per side.

The roof rails only have eight bolts. You'll need (8) #8-32x15/32 Expansion Nuts to fill in the gaps. I have an extra set. PM your snail mail address and I drop them in the mail. None of the Home Depots in Tucson had them.....

SPec C roof vent
I have one as well. It definetly rocks!! It is a major bug vaccum though.....I made a stainless steel mesh screen ( same mesh as the STI fog covers ) that pops in and out to keep the lil buggers from getting in......nuthing like having a pissed off hornet come in your car at 75mph on I-95 during rush hour  it cuts down the wind only a lil bit.......if anyone wants one -$10 shipped or wants me to put up a pic I can do PM or post

You can get the vent from www.rallispec.com cost a lil over $400

Its quite an easy install I did mine in the driveway in 4 hours....with a jig-saw.....No direction or templets taking my time and being real carful....I could do it in less than 2 hours easy now
What did you mean when you said if anyone wants one -$10 shipped? Do you have one laying around?
SupaHottSauce 03-31-2011 12:40 PM

I'm sure it's still sitting around 5 years later...

Cool bump bro
Yesitsdrew5310 03-31-2011 12:47 PM

Im guessing he is talking about the steel mesh that he made for his roof vent.

Thats correct Sir!......I always keep an extra mesh ready to ship out. They are $15 shipped now that shipping has gone up alot since 2006. and its stainless steel!!!
natasatan 03-31-2011 08:44 PM

I love when newbs bump old threads. We need more of this. If your selling Spec-C Vents for $15, then I'll take 1.
dangerousatom 03-31-2011 08:51 PM

I love when people dont read a thread and post on it like they did......?
kpluiten 03-31-2011 08:54 PM

Do you have pictures of the mesh screen? I might be in for one.

EDIT: Just found the pictures. Looks nice!
