this topic has been covered and alot of my subaru buddys and i talk about this sti doesnt mean the car wrx sti means the car so technically when you put sti on your car it means your a supporter of the Subaru Technica International and have those parts on your wrx
it is not the same as a v6 mustang putting svt on the back of it, it would be more like a gt putting svt parts on their car then putting svt stickers on it
to buy the badge itself and put it on is kinda iffy in my book if it makes your car look clean and fits in well then go for it make people afraid or if u like the sleeper look dont put it on its up to you
Parts that have STI on them like the jdm fog light covers, ver 7 grill, and sti top mount and things of that sort please... who is gonna take time and money to remove those when all it is truelly doing is supporting Subaru seriously. If your wrx comes with an sti wing you should take it off cuz its not an sti no just because not all of us can afford an sti right off the bat but highly modify our cars with STI parts and other parts doesnt mean you have to say cuz u didnt spend 34k on the WRX STI means you cant rep Subaru Technica International grow up guys
Throws on the flame suit

It's just a company badge. I don't have an issue w/ them on a car as long as you have actual parts from Subaru Technica International on the car. Otherwise, it's like slapping a K&N, Tein, 'insert-brandname-here' sticker on the car without any of the goods.

sti is a company... that's like saying 'don't put cobb on your car even if you have cobb parts'. i have sti fog covers. i for one walk an sti, have couple sti parts. when people give me **** all i can say is what now makes me NOT an sti minus a 6 spd? they're a 2.0 in japan anyway... besides all sti is is a race ready wrx anyway

My take on the subject is that STi is a company that tunes WRXs. You aren't truely an STi unless you swap out everything that an STi has that a WRX doesn't come with. However, you don't see STi owners pulling off their STi badges once they change a part 'just because it's not all parts are by STi'. They do it because of the "sleeper" look. So in my opinion, if you have the balls to back up that emblem, then go for it since most STi's out on the street aren't truely STi's since most people who buy the STi tend to mod their car.

yes, part of the extra cost of a sti over a regular WRX is the $5,000 worth of sti badges, automatic huge drop in resale if you take them off

oh haha sorry to mislead you guys i dont have an STI which I realize is the primaryfocus of this thread but I just got a 2006 2.5i with only 16,800 miles on it and I'm only 17 so I was wondering in the future if i were to resell the car if debadging the bottom left and right impreza and subaru badges would have a cost effect but i would leave the emblem in the center?
thanks
thanks

i have a 2.5i with STI badges on it. i know its not an STI but it just gives it that extra "umph" i like the way it looks and it motivates me to get an actual STI which i am in April or May so **** it to each his own i think

Probably not. You might have a savvy buyer ask where they went, though... Why not pull 'em off, and put them in a box marked (stock car parts) and keep it in your garage? If you find that one picky buyer that actually cares, you can just re-attach them.

in the end, IMHO, it comes down to whether or not the WRX-owner gives a flying rats-@$$ about anybody else's opinion, because they put those STI badges on their car themselves, nobody held a gun to their head and made them do it, it's all personal preference.
i'd never do it, but i know plenty of people who do.
i've seen people with '02-'03 bugeyes put an STI emblem on their front grill and change out their foglight covers to the STI ones (and somtimes that's the only parts that are actually genuine STI parts), and then when they post pics of their car, others will praise them and say good things about the car.
but god forbid somebody were to do that with an '04-'05 or, dare i say it, an '06-'07 MY WRX, the world would come to an end.
i love the bugeyes, but what makes it ok for them to get away with something but not another MY WRX?
nobody ever says anything when ANY year model STI gets a WRX trunk or wing:huh:
just my $.02

It's worth starting a new thread, or searching for threads pertaining to it. You'll get plenty of crap on NASIOC for going completely off topic.
In any case, state laws determine legal tints. Fill out your profile so we know what state you live in, and ask again in a tint-related thread. I know people who've been ticketed over tint. I haven't.

Uuuhhhh.....I put the same money down on my STi that a couple people I know put on their 09 WRXs and my payment is $11 more than one guy and $4 less than the other.
As far as your comment about the WRX being faster, I will gladly race ANY 09 WRX that doesn't have any mods other than mine which is a Cobb AP. Just because the factory tune sucks on the 08/09 STi and 1 magazine claims that the WRX is faster than the STi to one specific speed (60mph) because of a gear change, doesn't make your comment even remotely intelligent.
I'm probably completely wrong though, I'm sure the WRX is faster all around, makes more power, handles better, has better wheels, has better interior, has DCCD, has a better gearbox, has better suspension, and can support more power upgrades than the STi though.

so that means you either got a very good deal on the STI, which I doubt, or those people are retarded for paying so much for the WRX. And I bet you wouldn't race any WRX with the price difference in mods, cause you'd look like a ****ing yuppie. BTW, the difference in cost, a lot better upgrades can be made to the specs I specifically want. Also, I wouldn't buy a new one regardless, cause they look like hammered dog ****!

Actually, he probably really did get a good deal on an STI. I know I did, the dealers knocked the prices down thanks to Subaru's dealer incentives, and if you financed them they offered 0% financing. I could easily see making the same payment on an 08 STI as an 09 WRX.
For example: an 08 STI that the dealer knocks down to 30k (yes, they were willing to go that low) has a payment of $476.19 Total paid: $30,000
An 09 WRX sold for $26k would have a payment of $482.13 for 63 months at 6%. Total paid: $30,374.05
So yeah, even though you are paying more for the STI technically, your payment is lower, and unless you pay the loan off early, you will pay less over the course of the loan for the STI, and wind up with a vehicle that is worth more. If someone wants to pay more for a WRX then an STI, then I say let 'em. I'll put the difference into a used DP, open source tune, and smoke the ever loving crap out of the WRX. And do it with a nicer exterior, 6 speed, better brakes, LSD's, etc.
What do you drive? Fill out your profile, new guy! Oh yeah, if you've got a newer one, they're STI, not STi anymore. Don't cha love nit picking?
so that means you either got a very good deal on the STI, which I doubt, or those people are retarded for paying so much for the WRX.

Sorry, I haven't filled out my profile yet. Yes I do have an 08 "STI" and I just got it a month ago. The sticker was 36,2?? and I paid 28K plus tax, title and reg. I was actually offered an even better deal as I was on the way to pick mine up but I decided to just stay local. The other dealer offered to take $8600 off of MSRP.
Contrary to what my post sounds like, I have nothing against the 09 WRX's, I was trying to buy one when I found out about this deal. I couldn't get my hands on an 09 five door and I figured the STI would have a higher resale value anyway. I honestly couldn't see a performance difference between the two after driving both but I still think that tuning will set them apart because the 09 is obviously tuned pretty good and my car came with a horrible tune. I know a lot of people don't care for the five door, but I wanted the practicality of the hatch.
I am loving this car so far. I have a Mustang that gets put away for the winters and for the first time it is really not so bad.
Crappy picture but here are my rides.

So heres a question for all you who think that STI badging on a WRX is stupid even with a close to complete STI swap. What if you take an STI, a real STI, and downgraded it with WRX parts, maybe even swap in a 5mt? By you're standards do you have to take the badging off because it's not a complete STI?
